It's Σlemental, My Dear

User Image

In this place, very few dwell.

A few farmers, herders. A couple of merchants and boarders. But, in this very old, very small place, there also lives a doctor. He live high above the rest in his house, upon this hill. But is no kindly doctor one finds in fairy tales, no.

He is an old man, an a bitter one. The only others that live in that high house are the maid ... and the orphan. When he moved in a couple of years back into this small, simple town the doctor brought with him a small, quiet child that rumor told was not quite right in the head. Those that lived in that house were hardly seen at all, and most just decided to forget about them, unless they needed medical attention.

But the years past, and the boy grew, next to no one seeing him. Those who did reported that he was defiantly odd. The orphan spoke to the air, cursed at trees, and seemed to have a love of the dirty and small spaces beneath bushes (much to the shock and near-heart attack of the gardener that came by every other week), and slept at the oddest times.

The orphan's name, as the doctor has called him, is Nox. He cannot clearly remember a home past the time since he has been with the doctor, are barely remember much at all for that matter. His short-term memory is almost as legendary as his 'madness,' and he lives from day to day.

This place is his only home ... and his nightmare. The doctor does experiments to him. Things that make him scream in the night and his 'imaginary friends' cringe and cry out to him, though they themselves can do nothing. No one knows what the doctor does ...

That is ... until one takes interest in that lonely, imprisoning house upon the hill ...

In This Wide, Wonderful World ...

- Science and Magic exist hand and hand here, and dragons fly in the far reaches of the mountains ...

- Warriors of all shapes and sizes fight for glory, greed, or to protect their villages from invaders.

- Within this small farmish town wars have not been a problem ... so far.

- Beyond the green fields and simple life, who knows what lay beyond? Vast deserts, frozen mountains, savage beasts, evil warlords ...

Down the Road ...

= The rules are simple. Don't disappear. Use spellcheck. No one-liners. If you're going somewhere for longer than two days tell me or you risk expulsion from the RP.

= If you wish to participate send a Private Message with the title '... I'm Walking' and within the PM tell me why you want to RP with me, how often you will be able to post, and a small 'plot-line' of ideas you might have for the near-future of Nox's world.

= Put a picture of a dragon in the private message you send to show that you read the rules in semi-detail.

= I'm looking for someone that likes to write. I love irrelevant details; nothing is ever too long for me.

= Have fun. Always; that's what RPs are for biggrin

It was a sunny day. Nox lay in the grass, dozing in the sun's warmth. It covered him like a soft blanket, making the ache on his arm--where the doctor had drawn blood that morning--lessen a bit. His head buzzed and felt light. He seemed to float for a few moments, not in his body but not entirely outside of it either, before yawning and slowly sitting up, brunet hair messy and tossed. He'd never bothered brushing it--the lizards told him that brushing his hair was a waste of time when the wind-spirits would just mess it up again--and it looked almost like a bird's nest.

The young man sleepily got up and crept over to the fence of the doctor's yard, where the plants were a bit thick in places, but where he could also look out through the gaps in the bushes and see down the hill where people were. The doctor didn't like it when he did that, which was why he was sneaking. Besides, he wanted to see if the gardener would come today. Or maybe the milkman.

Nox always loved visitors, though he was shy and liked to hide and watch them before talking to them. Talking to the lizards was fine enough, but it got lonely after a while. Lizards weren't people.

CHASE

Chase sighed to himself as he entered the first town he had come across in three days. Looking around at the small houses and few people milling out, he decided it would be a good place to stay. Not that he was low on supples... He would NEVER be so unprepared for anything. But it was small and out of the way.

Logan will never find me here...

Or so he hoped. Logan, though the clumsiest man on Earth, had a way for finding him wherever he went. It was a horrible talent of his and one Chase hated when he wanted to take a break from his killing spree.

Now where to stay...

Chase's eyes were drawn to the house on top of a hill. It was out of the way but looked like the perfect place to start. After all, creepy places to seemed to fit a killer perfectly. Snickering to himself, Chase walked up to the hill to the house.

Nox, seeing someone walking up the hillside, grew excited. Excited enough to try to climb the fence a bit to get a better look at who it could be before getting lightheaded and dizzy from the lack of blood in his system and having to climb down again, resting his shaky body against the cool metal. Okay, maybe getting so easily excited right now wasn't a good idea, but Nox couldn't help it. Sometimes he forgot things like getting two liters of blood drained out of him so the doctor could do more tests.

Mm ... I'm sleepy again ... The male yawned again, brown eyes closing for a moment, before peering around the bars curiously. The bushes hid him pretty well unless someone looked closely in his direction. Nox could tell the person coming wasn't anyone familiar though. A lizard--bright as flame and as unreal to the real world as a child's imaginary friend--crawled up Nox's leg and hissed that the man coming was a stranger. The lizards didn't like strangers very much, but Nox was curious. What would a stranger be doing all the way up here ... ?

The maid, inside the large house and cleaning a window, also saw the man coming and stopped her cleaning to go and tell the master of the house: the doctor.

He was being watched...As an assassin, sensing little things like that could be the difference between life or death. As he got closer to the house, he noticed the maid in the window turn and retreat further back into the house. His watcher...

But that wasn't the only set of eyes on him. Chase didn't pause in step as he neared the gate, but his eyes flickered to the bush. He didn't see anyone there, but he knew someone was watching him. A threat? In this small town...? Highly doubtful but better safe than sorry.

He stopped at the gate, leaning against him. "Whoever's there, please show yourself or I'll be forced to consider you a threat," he said brusquely, arms crossed over his chest but otherwise looking perfectly relax. However, he was ready to strike should anyone attack.

Nox blinked. The man was pretty '--in a thorny rose kinda way,' the lizard added for him. "I'm not a threat," Nox said, waving a hand out a hand in between the bars from where he was hiding, because nothing else would fit through the bars. "I'ma person-y-thing. I think." He was curious about this odd new person who was very, very different from anyone he'd seen before. Though, then again, Nox really hadn't met that many people.

He'd lived in the house for as long as he could remember, even as bad as his memory was that had to count for something, and the people all seemed the same. Busy, hardworking, mule-minded, and slightly scared of him sometimes, which Nox didn't understand. The lizards said it was because he was special.

The doctor was different from all of them, but even this man was different from the doctor. "Who're you?"

Chase blinked a bit. A... Child? Maybe not a child but certainly not what he expected. Instantly, he softened a bit. But not enough to drop his guard completely. He walked back out of the gate and knelled next to the bars where the hand was.

"And why, prey tell, are you in the bushes?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "It seems like an odd place to hide, unless you're stalking your prey." He snickered a bit. "Are you stalking your prey? If so, you're doing a very good job. I almost didn't notice you."

Almost.

Nox smiled a small shy smile. "It's the best place to see if people are comin' up the hill to visit the doctor," he explained, tilting his head, brown eyes curious. "I don't ... 'stalk prey.' I 'kill time.'" The young man ran a hand through his messy brown hair in a seemingly habitual gesture, a small bandage in the crook of his arm from where the blood samples had been drawn.

"I've never seen you before ... are you--?" he paused, looking at his shoulder. There was a moment of silence, then Nox laughed, looking at the other again. "Lizard wants to know if you're a bad person or a good person."

He spoke as a matter of fact, as if lizards asked questions all the time. Well, maybe to him they did.

Lizard? Was there another boy back there named Lizard? No... That couldn't be possible... Chase would have heard the second voice. Or was he, literally, talking about the small, garden reptile?

This boy isn't quite right... But then again who was?

Chase's eyes scanned the boy quickly, taking note of the state of his hair and the bandage on his arm. This must be a hospital, given the boy's mental state and the mention of a doctor. He smirked a bit at the question.

"I'm both," he answered, fairly honestly. "I've hurt a lot of people, but I only hurt the people that hurt others. I kill the killers. Would you mind telling me about this doctor?" Intel was always important and people were normally biased when talking about themselves. He would get more truth about the doctor from the boy than the doctor himself.

"The doctor?" Nox said back, then thought for a moment. His smile wasn't quite a smile anymore. "... the doctor's old. He's got a beard this long--" Nox held his hands apart about half a foot, "--and there's no hear on his head." The young man patted his own messy brown locks in demonstration. "The doctor is trying to make me better ... and the lizards want to tear him to pieces and eat him. Then spit him out and destroy the bits left over."

'He's bad. The doctor's bad.' But he''s makin me better. 'He's bad.'

And then Nox's head whipped around when he heard the front door of the house open, brown eyes slightly panicked. He wasn't supposed to talk to the regular people, let alone strangers. If he stayed where he was, the doctor probably wouldn't see him, but if the doctor noticed the stranger kneeling there he'd definitely find Nox ...

"Shoo!" Nox said quickly, waving for the stranger to go. He didn't want to get into trouble. Trouble hurt.

Tear him to pieces... Either the boy's imagination was violent or this doctor wasn't the best. While it was probably the boy, there was always the possibility of this doctor being more of a twisted quack. Besides... The boy's command to leave seemed almost a bit panicked.

Chase rose swiftly, walking back to the entrance of the gate and walking through. "Hello? Has someone finally come to greet me?" It wasn't said rudely. But... Monotone.

Nox sighed in relief when the pretty person left, huddling in a little ball in his spot in the bushes.

The doctor, just as Nox had described, even if his beard wasn't quite as long as half a foot, and he had a rather ... irritated look on his face. As if he didn't like strangers coming to his home, or people that weren't in dire medical need bothering him. "... And you are?" the old man huffed, as if he could care less; he just wanted to know why the young man was here and what he wanted.
