It was early morning. The sun had just risen. The air was cold and thin. It was early autumn and the tree's leaves were just beginning to turn and they looked crisp, golden, and ever so inviting. They were also just out of reach. When Girafarig stepped on tippytoes on her hind legs, she could just reach the ones on the lowest branches. She ripped off an entire twig, chewed, and swallowed. She thought the leaves tasted bland and that the twig was terribly bitter. She was disappointed. She was expecting to taste more like a golden delcious apple. Then, she looked down and noticed that the grass was cold, dewy, and smelled irresistably sweet. She ate a mouthful of it. She thought it tasted mostly sweet and green, with just a bit of a bad aftertaste.
It was the sensation of dirt in Girafarig's mouth - it was from the grass's roots - that snapped her out of it. Though, she didn't know what
it was exactly. She looked all around and didn't see anything familiar. She knew she was on the Epheria Lakefront before, but this was definitely a forest.
"Where am I? Wasn't I just with my brother and sister? How'd I get here?" Then, she spit out the dirt.
"And what did I just eat?!" After that, she began walking forward. She figured her brother and sister would be fine without her and it wasn't like she didn't know how to get home. The pangs in her stomach did annoy her, though.
"I'm so hungry. I haven't even eaten breakfast, yet..."
