"ROAR!"

At least.. that's what he wanted everyone to hear. But what actually came out was a child's squeaky roar with no real force behind it. The brightly colored male of the pride frowned at his attempt and looked to the lizard he was trying to scare. Of course it was just looking at him like he was a bloody idiot.

"Shut up you stupid lizard." The boy's red eyes glared at the brown looking thing before he batted at it an moved to pounce on it, rather inexperiencedly. But the promise was there. His mother had taught him the basics of pouncing, but never got into the lessons because she kept getting dragged away for her duties to follow the Ladies around. Often times dad was on hunting parties or trying to recruit new members of the pride. That left Jagat an his two sisters to do whatever it was they wanted. Mother never brought them to a nanny; none of them ever caused that many problems!

Still, he tried to pounce on the lizard and, instead, landed face first on a rock the lizard had scurried behind. "Ooooow!"

Mtumile'maliki, once again on the borders between the auspicious Rogue Lands and the comfort of his home in Tete'boma, had been perusing the line between the two lands with a quiet demeanor. He was thoughtful of many things today, finding himself in an oddly contemplative mood. He wondered of Thys, his friend, whom he hadn't seen in ages. He wondered of Kibwana, and how his King fared. He wondered of the princesses, and what would become of them. He even wondered of his wayward brother, though the good Gods only knew what his brother was getting into as it was. His mind leapt from one topic of thought to the next, circling itself as his paws padded the familiar trail he often took on his daily rounds before returning to the Court.

The squeak of a roar drew Maliki out of his reverie only for a moment before he dismissed it; a nanny was probably just escorting some cubs along the border. It was a foolish thing, undoubtedly, cubs shouldn't be so close, but as Maliki looked around he realized that somehow he had gone from the very edge of the borders to very near the Court, and well within the pride's bounderies. Scowling a little at his wandering feet for taking him off his beaten path, he lifted his head to look for the source of the poorly executed roar.

His eyes befell the poor cub as his head met the rock quite thoroughly. Even Maliki winced. "Yeesh." He muttered to himself, picking up his paws and treading towards the cub quickly. "Are you alright, little Yuzi?" He asked, frowning as he stopped a few feet from the cub. His colors were quite vivid, though he couldn't for the life of him recall seeing any lions with that coloration. That was troubling; Maliki liked to think he knew most, if not all, of the pride's lions.

He would have to acquaint himself with the young cub's parents sooner or later, if only for the pleasure of being polite.

Yes, his colors were quite vivid. The greens were from his father, Kafele, an older lion of the pride, and his mother had come from the Kunanda'Nakhun. She was of a high position in that pride. Of course Jagat knew why she had left. She was teaching her children to think of male and females equally, which he was doing quite well. He treated his mother and sisters with respect, and he adored his father. He just wished someone would play with him.

The bonk to the noggin jarred his poor teeth and made his vision swim for a bit. However, as soon as Jagat shook himself out, and then snorted a bit more. Ruby red eyes widened at the sound of another voice and the turned toward the other and blinked. This male looked, kind of, like his dad! Maybe they were related? Dad never talked about his family. "I'm alright.. Just pouncing," he said, clearing his throat a bit.

"....Am I in trouble?"

Maliki watched the cub closely, frowning. The colors seemed familiar, but escaped him near entirely; admittedly the majority of his mind was focused on the troubles within the pride. Recalling a face was not as high on his priority list as it ought to have been. One of his duties was to know the pride, was it not? How could he protect those who he didn't know? Hmmm. Nonetheless, whatever the cub's lineage, it was quite obvious he was not with the nannies, and his parents didn't appear to be around.

The frown slid away at his inquiry, though. He didn't want the cub to think he was in trouble when he wasn't. Maliki had seen the poor guy bang his head though and he remembered all too well how much that hurt. He offered a tiny smile at the cub, awkward and sheepish. He should've probably worked on smiling more but there was little to smile for as of late. "No, you're not." He assured him, trying to relax his smile into a less awkward grin and more natural.

It worked. Sort of.

"That looked like a pretty hard hit." He said after a minute, nodding to his head. "Sure you're okay?" He glanced around to confirm that, yes, there were no nannies about to come rushing over to protect the poor baby, and sat back on his rump. If there was no other adult around to watch after the cub, he might as well get comfortable if he was going to talk with the cub.

"Momma said I have a hard head, so that didn't hurt much. Just rattled the inside of my head a bit. Clicked my teeth together." The bright boy brightened further as he was told he wasn't in trouble. His tail flicked around happily before getting it in his mind that this male was going to play with him. So, he crouched low to the ground, rump wiggling and tail high in the air before he attempted to 'pounce' the male.

He misjudged distance, however, and came up short. Instead landing at his paws and then frowned. Why couldn't he get pouncing right? It couldn't be that hard. His mother and sisters did it all the time! Why didn't he pay attention. Getting back to his paws, Jagat shook himself once more and huffed.

"I'm Jagat. My daddy is Kafele and my mommy is Aekea. I have two sisters." He was the only boy in a litter of three.

Maliki nodded as the cub spoke, amused. He'd heard the same said of a few lions he knew, much older than Jagat. It seemed a common trait in youth. He watched the cub prepare to pounce him and instead of stepping back, he just braced himself for impact. Why not play with the cub for a while? His duties had been tended to, and it wasn't like he was needed elsewhere for the time being.

The only impact he felt was on his paws, though. He looked down at Jagat as he sat back and huffed, and smirked a little. "You just have to push more when you jump." He offered, sitting down where he was. Pouncing wasn't hard by any means, but it was most of all about determining distance. Too hard, and you'd hurt yourself bowling over your target. Not enough force behind the jump, and... well. Jagat knew what happened then, if his latest attempt was any indication.

"I am Mtumile'maliki." He said with a grin. "I've got a brother, but no sisters. Though I do have a friend who's like a sister, she's one of the nannies." He smirked. "But you can call me Maliki, if you like." His full name was a mouthful even for him, on occasion, and he was used to it being shortened.

Jagat's eyes widened at the name. He would never remember that! Maybe he could call him- oh. "That works a whole lot better. I already forgot the rest of your name, Maliki. ....Can I shorten it to Malik? Or even Mali? Mali's a good name, too." The bright cub plopped himself down in front of the darker and examined his coat. He was brown, too, but daddy and his sister were a whole different color brown. Why couldn't he be dark and handsome, too?!

Then the assistance in pouncing finally got through to his head and he grinned. "Will you teach me? My dad is too old. I mean, he's not old old, but he's starting to get grey in his muzzle. I mean. I love him and everything, but he can't teach me, he said, 'cause his legs hurt him a lot."

He laughed a little, nodding. "You can call me whatever you like." He said with a smile. Maliki wasn't the most common name in the pride, and he was sure he'd see the cub before he heard him, so nicknames didn't mind the lion. He didn't seem to notice the examination, and he smirked a little at his request.

"Sure." He nodded, opening his mouth to ask about his own father. He was cut off by a preemptive answer, and smiled, nodding. "My father was the same way when I got older." He explained. "He couldn't show me everything I needed to learn, so I was trained by my mentor to be a Farasi, alongside my brother." He said, smirking a little. "Pouncing was one of the first things I learned." He grinned at him. "My brother used to pounce me a lot when my back was turned."

Jagat watched him, tail flicking happily behind him as he listened to the older male. Shaking himself up, the orange and yellow cub jumped around this way and that before Mali started talking again. "You have a brother? How lucky!" It made him pout at the same time. "I only have two sisters, and they're not into training and learning to pounce right now. Momma says they will, but I don't know." He flicked his tail again and then nodded, getting into a crouching position.

"Did I do this right? C'moooon! The day is young, right? Are you busy now?" Gods above he was hyper now.

Maliki grinned, nodding. "Count yourself lucky. I wish I had a sister." He snorted a little. He loved his brother, have no doubt, but sometimes having a sister would have been easier. Less competition for roles and jobs, if nothing else. He watched the cub bounce around with a grin. "Let me teach you a life lesson that is very important in the future." He said. "Mamas, and wives, are always right. Even if you think they're wrong, they're right." He smirked at him, and got up, walking around the cub in a circle to examine his stance.

"Shhhh." He chided, frowning a little. He reached out a paw to push his rump down slightly. "Stay low to the ground." He smirked. "Hide as much as you can before you pounce; this way, your prey doesn't see you." He said, crouching down next to him. "And don't speak if you can help it. Some animals have unbelievably acute hearing. Especially sisters." He winked at him.
