So, I finally managed to steal my DS Dragon Quest IV back from my brother after not playing it for three months (my NES finally kicked the dust so I can't revel in Dragon Warrior IV anymore crying ) and I just noticed that in Seaside Village (I'm not sure about the DS name, is it still Seaside Village?) there is a reference of Dragon Quest VI of a romantic fan-fiction of the hero/Barbara (they call her Barbara for some reason and not her expected Americanized name of Ashlynn) and it got me wondering, is there any other Dragon Quest references in the series/other games? I know the Erdrick/Roto equipment still holds it roots strong throughout the series, heck the Sword of Roto even graced Final Fantasy XII with a cameo.

Here's a relatively well-known one.

Final Fantasy 1. In an elf town, there is a gravestone which reads "Here Lies Edrick." Classy, Square. Real classy.

It is sometimes translated as "Here Lies Link."

Oh right, I forgot about that, which is weird because I loved the original Final Fantasy. I personally thought it would have been better to keep it as Erdrick though, I was saddened to see it changed when I bought the PSP remake.

They probably changed it because GEEZ NOBODY KNOWS WHO EDRICK IS, HA ARE YOU KIDDING.

I notice a lot of references IN GAME to a lot of cultural artifacts, but I have never seen DQ referenced in anything outside itself... Likely, it happens more in japan where DQ is pretty much the heavenly rays of the sun itself.

I was once linked to this by a youtube recommendation.

I love DQV, but I'm really not a fan of that sort of animoo. It hurts my face. But, well, here you go.

Eh, I'm not sure if it's a reference, but I think in the first Lufia, you can fall off the towers much like you can in any of the Dragon Quests with tower levels in them.
