It was early. Of course, Chai had always been one to get up in the morning. When he was young, it was time for his momma to groom he and his siblings, then breakfast, and then a bit of playing around. Nowadays, the hare still got up early, but went through a morning routine of bathing himself and finding some breakfast, perhaps sunning himself or 'savanna watching'. Mkodi only knew what sort of interesting sights he might see or the interesting folk he might meet.
His mornings were generally quieter now that he was on his own, but Chai had carved himself a decent little niche. At least, he thought so. Like any good lion, or rather, hare with the heart of a lion, once he left home he sought out to settle a territory. Sure, it wasn't enormous, but he didn't need a lot of space. It wasn't like his primary food source migrated. The hare, while he did like the area, he wouldn't object to traveling around, hesitant though he was considering the size of his body didn't exactly match the size that he felt like he was.
Perched on a fallen branch, surveying the lush grasslands around him, Chai was contentedly grooming himself, pausing every so often to scratch or stretch. Today felt like it'd be a good day...

"Oh no..." Aras whispered under her breath as she glanced around, "...I'm lost again!" She had been wandering around the lands for hours now. Each time she looked behind her she seemed to be walking in circles. "I knew I should have turned right at that last tree," she said as she tried to figure out which way to go now. Aras was the type of lioness who didn't always have the best sense of direction. Though when it came type to hurt her sense of smell sure did kick in and lead the right way. At this time though she wasn't in hunting mood so all she had was the objects around her to lead her in the right way. As she turned her head left to right, she noticed a tree with a few branches scattered around it. Then an idea hit her almost like a stick falling from the air. "Maybe if I rest for awhile I can gather my thoughts and find which way to go?" she thought to herself. The plan did seem like a wonderful idea and her feet were hurting little. Maybe just a little she thought in her mind as she walked towards the tree. Not even thinking someone else might be in the cozy spot.

Having finished his morning grooming, Chai settled himself into a crook of the gnarled branch that he was perched upon. It was a large thing, felled by lightning in a recent storm. Thankfully, he had been sleeping elsewhere when it happened. He hadn't finished excavating his burrow at the base of the tree, hidden among the roots. The Gods must have been smiling upon him, for he had heard of lightning's devastating affects on those caught by or near that terrible force.
But it didn't matter now. He was safe and now he had a perch that he could survey his 'territory' and the surrounding areas. The hare scratched his side before settling back down against a fork in the branch. Chai looked at ease in his little kingdom, not fretting over hawk or eagles that may be looking for a quick snack, or any who may mean him harm. The tree offered cover from flying birds of prey and the grass surrounding his tree wasn't so high that it obscured his views. Besides, if something bad did come up, there were bolt holes...
A small herd of wildebeests were moving through a ways off. He sniffed the air, turning his burgundy gaze this way and that before he paused. "What's this," He paused and shifted himself up to sit on his haunches, propping himself up on the fork that he had been nestled against. A lioness, coming into his territory. He hopped up on top of the fork, ears perked forward in curiosity and alertness. She didn't seem to be stalking him, so she wasn't hunting for food. "Greetings, lioness. Might there be something I could do for you? You are entering my territory, after all. What sort of host would I be not to greet company? My name is Chai. Who are you?"

As soon as Aras approached the tree she took a few moments to admire the landscaping. It was definitely the perfect resting spot, the kind of spot any lion or other creature would love. Just as she began to inch closer towards the spot, she heard a voice. Sure the voice sounded rather welcoming but at the sound of it she jumped backwards almost immediately. She didn't even think someone else might have been at this spot, sure it was the perfect spot but she hadn't noticed anyone from afar. That was why the voice at completely taken her off guard.
"Oh my ..." she said aloud almost out of breath. As she tried to put her breathing back to normally. She slowly began to realize the voice didn't sound threatening or anything like that. It almost sounded rather friendly. It took few moments to gather herself back, breathing and all before she could speak. Though the moment she could she replied, "I'm sorry your voice caught me off guard. I didn't mean to intrude I was just looking for a nice place to rest. An well this area seemed like the perfect place to do that."
She waited for the voices response just for second, before realizing she had been so rude to forget her own name. "My name is Aras by the way, and its nice ot meet you Chai."
