User ImageNo. No, no, no. "Ick." Ears drooped low, Krysten let out a deep sigh, turning her head to the side to avoid getting even wetter than she already was as the sound of the current storm in the area went on and on over the Bamboo Tribe's territory. She was settled down somewhat comfortably underneath one of the larger stalk bunches of bamboo, the overhang formed by the weighted over tips of said stalks serving as a patch of dry in the constant wet land this sudden storm had brought. The usually dry ground was muddy beyond belief, the leaves and fragile sprigs of new bamboo were easily sticking to any fur that brushed by, and it was all extremely wet. All of this was something Krys' wasn't used to.

"When's it going to stop?" The vixen whined out with a downhearted glare at the rain around her little overhang, moving herself back so that she was leaned against the thickest parts of bamboo. It was cozy, a nice place to be in this sort of situation, but... It was so boring, waiting out this weather. Of course, her mind drifted to happier times, when Nny was around and the tribe had first been started up, but.. Well, any hope she had left for her mate's sudden return from out of the blue had been dimmed by both the tribe's current state and this damned weather.

User Image Johnny didn't know what happened - the first thing he remembered, he was in a snowy mountain, far away from the Bamboo tribe that marked his tail. He also knew, somehow, somewhere, that he'd been gone for a long while and that he missed Krysten terribly. So of course he'd started home. There was no way he would avoid his love for any longer than he had to - no, he would be home as quick as possible.

So he was almost there - the rain wouldn't stop him. Of course not. He loved Krysten with a fire even the downpour couldn't put out. He had to see her, had to apologize and beg her forgiveness right that minute.

Somehow, his nose picked up her scent through the rain - and saw a flash of pink. His heart beyond skipped a beat - his heart was no longer beating, it was skipping so hard. He broke into a run, the water flipping off of his ears with each bounce and hitting him in the face. He broke into the dry area of bamboo and fought his urge to shake himself and instead looked at Krysten with the same intensity as a man in the desert might drink water - this one glance was enough to fill him up.

After a long look, he whispered, very softly, "Krysten..."

It was enough; if he'd said anything more, he would have said too much. Her name, that one word, was the perfect summary for everything he was feeling, the happiness that he'd found her and the sorrow he might have lost her - the memories and the what-could-have-beens, the everything and the nothing.

"I'm so sorry... I love you so much, I..."

There was something different now. Ears perking up from their fallen position at the sides of her face, Krysten peered out from her little dry spot. This noise, this noise sort of sounded like footsteps, but.. No one would be out and about in this sort of weather, would they? 'They... Well, would they? There's that possibility.' She thought to herself with a slight tilt of her head. Confused but now intrigued, she let her eyes set to work on searching for the mysterious source of this new noise. Then, there it was! The dark form of another fox made itself known now, standing out in all the bamboo and the constant downpour.

..No. No way. There was no way. Was that Johnny? Johnny her mate, the one that her daddy dearest had a firm dislike for, the Johnny she had just begun to give up on? No way. How was this possible? It had been so long! There was no way.. Dumbfounded as he approached, Krysten simply kept herself in her spot against the makeshift wall of bamboo stalks, giving a startled blink of her eyes as he said her name. "N-nny. It's really you?.." Standing up and onto all four feet, she began to move towards him, almost cautiously. This wasn't some sort of stupid illusion, like those ones her Uncle Koji had about her Aunt Kaia after she had left on that trip of hers. It was the real deal. "Oh my god. Johnny!" A wide smile suddenly coming over her lips, Krys' leaped at the male and shoved him to the ground, pinning him to the ground and setting herself to the task of nuzzling and brushing and nudging him as much as she could physically managed at that moment. He was really back!

"I missed you so much." The vixen said, voice muffled as she buried her face into his chest, smiling to herself as she hid her face. "I love you, I love you, I-.. I love y-you.." Oh god, she wasn't going to cry, was she? Oh gooood.

He blinked when the vixen had tackled him to the ground; was she not mad at him? Oh god, that was such good news to him, second only to the fact that she seemed to be in wonderful health. He had no words for how glad he was to see her, how /ecstatic/ he was - in fact, she could probably hear his heart thrumming loudly in his chest as he nuzzled her back, cleaning the pink tips of her ears that were in his face, which he then rubbed his cheek against, a soft pleased noise eminating from his throat, a sound which needed no words and a sound for which no noise would do.

"I love you too, I love you too, I love you... I missed you too... I don't know what happened, I just ... It was like I sleep-walked away... I know it's probably not good enough, but I don't know what happened... I - how long have I even been gone..? I don't know..."

His ears twitched at the stutter in her voice and he shifted his paws to almost embrace her, and he rasped his tongue over the longer fur across her forehead, rubbing his muzzle into it. He knew any tears she would cry would be - he hoped - happy tears, but it simply wasn't allowed that he could /let/ her cry. Oh no, he would have to try to stop it.

"I'm so glad you're fine... I was scared that - that you'd given up on me... It could have been years for all I know... I'm so glad..." He seemed to be mumbling that over and over again, softly, "I'm so glad; so glad..."

The nuzzling, grooming, licking, everything felt right like it had before he had disappeared. Krysten bit lightly at her bottom lip, resisting the urge to let those tears drop. Now wasn't the time to cry! What was her body thinking?! This was a happy time. Flashing a toothed grin as she felt his embrace, Krys' shifted slightly, moving to press an ear against his chest gently. Even his heartbeat sounded like it had in the past! Possibly a little faster, but that was probably her imagination at work, right?

Thinking about his question, her grin faded into a smaller one.. That's right. How long had he been gone? "I don't know.." She replied somewhat distractedly, voice trailing off as she stole a moment for herself, trying to recall when exactly he had gone missing. She took in a breath, taking in the scent she had known so well ages ago but had now almost forgotten just recently, then released it with a deep sigh as she buried her face into his fur just a bit deeper. She honestly couldn't remember now. It seemed like ages, though. So many things had happened while he had been gone! Mom and a few of her siblings had simply gone missing, along with Kure and Panda-chan, and the tribe had never really recovered. Sparkio had been trying his damned hardest, and she loved their new Elder for that, but it just didn't seem like the tribe would be returning to that mood it once had.

And then two of her brothers had gone and had kids. Katsu and Shino!... Ooh, that had made her so.. mad? Jealous? Maybe a combination of both. Then her Aunt Kaia had left on another one of her travels just recently, leaving Koji all by himself to sulk and worry over her. And dad wasn't in the best of states, and.. And Nny was back. At least there was that to lift her spirits. All of those other things could be worried about later on. Realizing this fully now, Krysten gave a blissful wag of her tail in the air.

"I don't think I could ever give up on you." That would be so difficult, just up and forgetting about those memories! Was that even possible? "Ever." She said, raising her head and reaching to give him a bump on the nose with her own. No, no. She wouldn't be forgetting or loosing him anytime soon if she could help it.

"I'm so glad," He said again, sighing softly and burying himself into her fur.

There was a question burning at his lips, one he wanted to ask but was afraid to, afraid to know the answer even as he hoped his gut impulses were wrong. But he had to know - he couldn't just let it go, they were his tribe, once upon a time, and still were if they wanted him, and he had to know no matter what had happened to them.

"Hey, Krys... How've you been? Bamboo, too? Have you a- have you all been fine?" God, he hoped they had been, he didn't know what he'd do if Bamboo was or had been in trouble and he hadn't been there for it - but a pain in his stomach told him - he was wrong. Something had happened and he'd failed Krys, Bamboo... Everyone. "I'm never going to leave you, not ever again..."

He managed to get out from under her and instead lied down next to her, pushing his hip and tail into hers, maximizing the contact as he continued to lick her ears and head affectionately. "So please don't worry, Krys, I'm going to stay with you.. I won't ever leave you alone like that again... I'm so sorry.."

How was the tribe?.. Well.... Well. Where to begin? How were you supposed to answer something like that? "Things have been.. okay." Krysten began, tail giving a few absentminded flicks as he shifted to lay down beside her. "We have a new Elder. Remember Sparkio, the male who helped out all the kits that one time? We can go and talk to him later on.." Her tone was a little happy at first, but quickly went down to a hushed and mumbled one. "He's in charge now.. Kure and Panda-chan are gone, Nny. A bunch of the others, too."

Nothing bad had happened physically, thank goodness. But emotionally? Well, of course. Who wouldn't be a little torn apart, with things being changed so strangely? Letting out a short sigh, she nosed at his cheek, smoothing out a patch of wet fur. "Mom too. And a few of my siblings, I suppose. They just.. left, I guess." Mumbling the last short bit, she curled her tail around his, giving it a gentle squeeze. "But I've been okay. Even better now that you're back."

Krys' suddenly gave out a faint little laugh as he went onto apologize, muttering a sort of sweet nothing, something along the lines of 'I love you' as she leaned against him. "It's okay.. It's alright. I know you wouldn't leave. At least, not without a reason." She moved her muzzle down slightly, nuzzling at the side of his neck. "I'm so glad you're back.. So, so glad.. No, more than glad. I dunno if there's a word to describe how happy I am now." Krysten gave a twitch of her ears, giving a light and playful flick with one at his nose as Johnny licked at her. Nuzzling into his fur with a less forced, more honest smile, she let out a slightly happier sigh this time. "And I'm glad you're okay."

Hm. She, not worrying about him?

Nonsense.

Johnny blinked - okay? It didn't sound okay. It sounded bad, actually, that Panda-chan and Kure were gone, and so were a lot of other people. That wasn't okay. He shook his head and licked her again and again.

"Oh... I'm sorry, Krys... I didn't mean to leave, I don't - I don't know what happened... It's such a bad excuse, but I don't know. I really don't."

He shook his head, licking her ear, leaning back into her. "I'm so glad you understand, Krys - I don't deserve you. Thank you. I -..."

He sighed quietly. "What should we do, Krys..? I want to spend time with you."

"No. No, it's fine, Nny." Krysten soothed, just a little insistent, giving a slight shake of her head at his thank you and.. and... She let out a soft rumble, near feline, as he leaned against her. Boy had she missed him.

"I.. I'm not sure." She said at first, closing her eyes and giving a run of her muzzle through his fur. "It's raining, and I don't think there's much we can do." Motioning towards the outer surroundings of their little shelter, she gave a flick of her ears in surprise. The rain was starting to let up! "Well then. Scratch that. We can make plans now."

Finally.
