It had been about a couple weeks since Jack had gotten to the academy, following a horrible experience on a run away train (so he figured), that resulted in sheer embarrassment, and a lingering unnerving feeling whenever he met new people he wasn't sure about. But he was getting better.

Exitting an out of use music room, Jack took to walking down a corridor with elongated strides, eyes lidded as he strummed the slightly unfamiliar strings of a six-string guitar, his tail swaying behind him in tune with whatever he was trying to get down on the instrument. There were not many sitar players in the world - and lesser still in this school ( as far as he could see, the population seemed to be a firm "one". . . ), so having snapped a few baj tar left him without a solid instrument for a few weeks, at least, and made him feel a little bare.

She had followed the Meister in hopes of cheering him up, seeing him miserable around as he played the guitar, his eyebrows knitting as he missed frets and keys.

Mai heard the music before she knew anyone was coming down the corridor. It somehow sounded dispirited to her, and the missed notes had the effect of making her sad more than anything else. She opened her eyes to watch the strumming student make his way slowly toward her. He seemed to be in his own little world, probably didn't even know she was there.

As for herself, she was laying on a bench in the hallway, looking glum even for a ghost. She rested on her back with one arm over her face and one foot on the floor. It was never fun feeling cold like she did then, it left her even more lethargic than usual and that was saying something. Some days were worse than others, and today she felt the cold sinking into her like it wanted to smother her. Parts of her were wisping out as she lost the desire to hold her form together. Actually, she'd been looking for Pachua up until then, hoping he might let her lean against him for a while, but had given up and stopped to rest here on the bench.

Suddenly she noticed the cat following along after the boy (who was at this point too far away to recognize what with her waning focus) and managed to crack a smile. She let her arm fall close to the floor, the one that wasn't on her face, and made a small *kisskiss* sound hoping to catch the kitty's attention.

It didn't take Seiben very long to catch the sound of another one, over the crying guitar or the Meister, her long ears perking up, as she turned her head to regard the Ghost, her greyblue eyes looking her over in a mild curiousity. Being Seiben - number seven, she had followed Jack enough to discern what a Ghost was, beside the living.

But this one seemed so. . . distraught and a little pathetic, and made the cat curious and a little sad for her. Looking up to her Meister, she banked away from him for the time being, a soft purr erupting in her throat as she wandered over to the paperghost, lidding her eyes in a soft way as she took a few daring steps towards the hand of new face, sniffling it warily before leaning against it softly.

The sound of the cat wandering from him alerted Jack from his solemn song, his glowing gaze turning around and following her trail to the lethargic ghost on the Bench, his eyebrows arching higher, his song stopped short. He knew this one, she was in the classroom before . . . Mai wasn't it? The one with the blue writing. Leaning his hands on the chords infront of him, he took a few sweeping steps towards Seiben and her, looking to her with poorly masked pity.

"A penny for your thoughts, my dear?" he murmured, strumming a couple times to emphasize his statement, however he could.

Ahh, warm little kitty. Mai felt the fluttering heat near her hand and had to restrain herself from grasping roughly at the feline to get closer to it. With a bit of effort, she contented herself with scratching it softly on the top of its soft little head and behind one ear. The little bit of warmth under her fingertips was hardly enough to lift her out of her little funk, but it felt lovely. Distantly, she worried that her hands were probably deathly cold, so she tried not to touch the cat's ears or nose directly.

"Hello beautiful," she said softly as her eyes slid from the cat to the apparent owner. It was ambiguous who she was greeting. Probably both.

Oh. She realized that she recognized the boy now standing over her. He was the one from her Forms and Faces class, the one with the wild smile. Jack. If Mai could blush, she probably would have then. She imagined so anyway.

"Thoughts?" the ghost asked, turning her face toward Jack and removing her arm so she could see him better. "It's.. cold," she muttered.. Oh Bloody Mary, Mai cringed inwardly, embarrassed. She was pouting. She could feel it.. Mai was certain that most people didn't like pouting. She tried to smile up at him. "Youu?" she asked, her voice echoing a little bit.

Even if Seiben had been cooled by the touch of the ghost, she wouldn't show it, a true princess on four paws, with strong determination that could withhold a storm - something she had learnt when she had lived her high life. Affection was affection to her, and being doted on was something she sort of missed. Crooning happily, she leaned into Mai's touch, allowing the Ghost share the warmth that she created with her living body, before grey-blue eyes veered up to peer at the Meister, who's interest had been caught as well as hers.

Jack was glad that she remembered his face, from the class, as he watched her face light up a little when she scrambled for conversation, her eyes a little lost though, when she lifted her arm. When she mentioned that she had been cold, he frowned a little, tilting his head, glowing eyes staring down at her. Having been a ghost, he wondered how she could experience cold - but they experienced fear, and he was sure at one time or another they could feel some form of pain, so this wasn't too far fetched.

Shaking his head, he lidded his eyes a little, nodding softly. "Anything I can do to assist then? I fear that I'm not the best with ideas, pertaining to that." He offered, bringing the neck of the guitar up a bit. "A song maybe, could help. If I could get this blasted thing right. . . " a small whine emitted from under his voice, leaking into his words. "My fingers don't flow over such a strange instrument, so you'd have to forgive any silly sounds."

He couldn't admit it, but his musical ego was a little bruised from being unable to wrap his head over such a simple looking instrument.

He was just close enough that Mai could feel the air warming near her on one side. In her current state it was a little like fighting gravity, resisting the urge to attach herself to this heat source standing so close to her. She noticed his shift in expression when she mentioned the cold and puzzled over it, not liking that she would give him a reason to frown. Ah. Well, it was probably strange to hear a ghost say they felt anything at all. Maybe she should explain it to him if he was curious, or try to anyhow. The kind of cold that she felt wasn't the same kind of cold that someone living might feel.

She didn't think it was the right moment to attempt that kind of conversation though. Instead, she watched him intently as he gestured with the instrument in his hands. "A sonng?" she asked, looking almost wistful. "If you would like to play for me, it might help. And I'm sure you play beautifully.." The music itself probably wouldn't do much for her biggest problem, but she found herself wishing that he might linger for a while. Besides, she had always been one to appreciate a talented musician. "Do you not normally use that?" She gestured at the guitar. Mai couldn't help but want to comfort him somehow, but she wasn't sure she had a grasp on what was troubling him.

And oh.. the cat didn't seem to mind her cold fingers. She turned her face to smile warmly at it, running her hand down its sleek back. It took her a bit of effort, but she pulled both her knees up so that there was space on the bench for him to sit.

"Jack isn't it?" She questioned. "Who is your friend here? She's lovely.."
