Hello, I'd like to welcome you all to The Gaian Chess Guild--Gaia's premium one-stop shop for chess entertainment in towns.
As you should already know by reading the first page, this guild's focus is on playing chess in Gaia Towns. This thread's purpose is to introduce new users into the basics of playing Gaian Chess and allow them a venue to introduce themselves into our group.
Gaian Chess is played with the same rules as normal chess, however there are several differences between actual chess and Gaian Chess.
1: Instead of little plastic pieces, we use people! Your own avatar becomes a king, queen, bishop, knight, rook, or pawn.
2: Instead of a person moving the pieces around, the king controls the movement of his own team's pieces! (it makes sense after all, doesn't it?)
3: Because of the difficulty of gathering and organizing 32 gaians to play a game of chess in towns, we usually do not have enough pieces for a full game. So instead we use whatever pieces we can get. smile It's still very fun though!
So that's Gaian Chess in a nutshell. For specifics on rules and regulations which are set up to allow the game to operate as smoothly as possible, head over to the Rules and Guidelines
Now onto more frivolous things! I'd like to introduce myself to you, and maybe you'll introduce yourself to me and your guildies as well?
I'm GCG Captain, and am the figurehead mule of the guild. I'll be the one posting sign-up threads for scheduled matches and housing funds for prizes and such in the guild. You usually won't see me in chess matches but I might be brought in to fill a missing spot if there is one. smile

Anyway, I'm Sin. I'm the guild captain behind the scenes. You have probably seen me in towns if you've played in a match that I started--I start a TON of random matches in towns. Actually, if you want PM'd about random matches if you are online when I start them, you should ADD ME to your friend list.
About me in Gaian Chess: I am usually trying to keep the game organized. I will often offer up my spot to someone else if they want to play but the game has already started. If the game gets too disorderly it really stresses me out. I really hate when people leave, but thank god for replacements! I play king a lot, and I'm pretty good at chess. FEAR ME.
About me in general: I'm 18, I live in Kansas (it's small, I like it. Well, not small. But it's not very heavily populated) and have spent most of my life in the mid-west, but I'm not some bible freak. And I'm male, if you people were wondering. I had a good time making you all think I was a hermaphrodite. HAHAHAHAHA

I introduce myself too, now.
It's been around two week? or maybe a week since i joined. before that i had never played gaiachess, only rl one a looong time ago and i was decent at it, but now i stinks sad
BtW to anyone, -_-HeavenlyDoom-_- is my twin sissy and she often comes to the games in my place, if i cant make it or she wants the computer, so make nice with her or ill get chu > biggrin
oehs and you'll see me stalking the two board towns, i do that when im bored.
i love to see the two knights argue, especially a certain two that i shant name ;3
i'm a veeeeeeeery patient person so at times i'm one of the last to leave after games. I tend to sit at edge of board and watch the game, so if u need help remembering who was where, ill prolly know. so because im quiet doesnt mean im afk or anything.
oeh yeahs almost forgot. im 18 and i live at the kfc state where it sucks chicken bones

Yo people i am Tiger and i am also the captain of the guild. I am the one who does the schedule games most of the time. even tho i haven't done so much lately due to my busy schedule. I Also have done all the graphics you seen the guild and banner, pretty right ;D
Me in the Chess scene: I admit i can be bossy when it comes to playing chess. I HATE it when person talk, leave, b***h, complain during the games. it stressed me out. You will see me play has King and queen most of the time but if needed i can be anything. btw i hate pawns unless it is a full game xD I May look cute and sexy but that doesn't mean i know what i am doing. I am a good chess player so fear me as well xD
I am a fun loving person and verry easy to get along with. I am 20 and will be turning 21 in may (w00t) i goto full sail university with is awesome. ;D i work at H-E-B ( it is a store only in Texas) If you have any questions feel free to PM me and we can talk ;D

Hey, I'm Maka. My real name is Aaron. I live in Louisiana (yay British Petroleum). I am an on-and-off nerd. Hobbies include chess (of course), programming, hacking, swimming, drawing, computing algorithms, making computers, soccer, karate, Call of Duty, Halo, fencing, making Linux cheat sheets, photography, and 4chan.
I love chess (obviously), Korean pears, weapons, asians, indoor swimming pools, hacking, comic books, almost all video games, anything that flies, explosives, almost all sports, space, watermelon, peaches, apples, grapes, bananas, oranges, tangerines, anime, and manga.
I hate furries (No really, they're gay. What's the point of an animal that wants to be human?) dictators, extremists, rapists, 4Kidsz, the FCC, bad moderators, the flu, uncooked spinach, and destruction without a reason.
I know four languages (English, Spanish, Chinese, and sign language).
As for chess: I try to go to every game I can, but lately Towns and my schedule (and new people) have been interfering. I used to be good at chess, but my computer life took over and my ability degraded to "decent". Almost all of the members (except the new ones) of this guild can predict my moves as I rarely play seriously. I try to drag out games so that I usually bore my opponent into losing. I don't like stalemates that much, and sometimes I'll spontaneously leave a game if I don't like you. So yeah, that's me.

Hey, uh, just to make things clear: I don't care at all about chess sweatdrop I just care about getting together for a fun group/team project like playing a game of chess without actual chess pieces, but actually BEING the pieces to complete a whole game. blaugh
I don't even like checkers that much. redface

hi my name is redbandit114 or as I'm known as in the real world Aron.
my hobbies include chess, video games, baseball, and soccer.
my skill level in chess is about an average player but if I'm in the mood to play I'm a force to be reckoned with, i haven't really been able to participate in any of the games that have been taking place lately, you can blame that on my parents but i should be able to be in some of the games past this point.

Hey, I'm The Hiding Blackspade. I'm a sophomore in High School, so later at night and Saturdays are always better for me. I learned to play when I was around 9 years old, but I haven't played much recently, and I've been meaning to take it up again. This looks like fun, so I joined :3
I'm 16, Blond haired, Blue eyed, and Live in the desert-ish state of Utah. I spend a lot of time in the military guilds, and improving my strategy is another reason why I've been meaning to take up chess again.

Might as well do this while I have nothing else to do.
I'm usually called Dewd, others who were in the guild in the old days may know me as Hote. I'm just a veteran here, seeking to enjoy the art of war that is chess. I seem to come off as the strong & silent type while at the GCG locations...and I suppose that's very reminiscent of my real life personality. Outside the guild I can be a little more outgoing and goofy.
Me and chess- If anything, my abilities in chess are given to natural talent with a bit of luck. A fair bit of moves I make will have no real purpose, which probably throws other players. Of course none of that said means I don't have a clue what I'm doing...It just means I don't over analyze my moves. War does not always allow the mind time to think over a situation.
My main talent that makes me so good at chess is to catch opportunities and exploit another player's weakness. As well I try to think like my opponent and assess my risk of leaving/creating my own openings and whether they are prone to notice.
Often I will give friendly kings signals of my own thoughts on the games, but I do not believe in telling them exactly what they should do as it is their game and not mine...It can also be considered cheating.
Favorite pieces to play are pawn and knight...Usually gives me good excuse to check on other affairs during games as most people don't move these pieces much. Also helps me memorize the position of other player pieces without worrying much about my own. If you ever get mixed up on where a piece was I'm bound to know.
I am told I am very good...And Sin fears me so fear me more. XP
At least half my involvement in chess is knowing what each piece represents on the board, and the history of the game. (You may have me arguing that rooks should be represented by archer attire)
Me as a person- I'm 21 years of age, male, and live in southern California. I have a few other hobbies, including other war based strategy games (40K, Warhammer, etc.)
So, there you go.
