Many internet sites are starting to block access to people using adblocking software, citing a loss of revenue.
My argument for the use of adblocking software is simple: those large obnoxious Flash ads. I don't particularly mind still ads, it's the flash ones that annoy the s**t out of me.
But what do you think? Do adblockers have their place, or should they be shunned?

The thing is, when I'm on dial up, any extra images that I have to load create that much longer of a wait time.
And video and flash ads are especially problematic because they slow down the page ludicrously.
I don't mind websites blocking people from using adblock, but if you're putting obnoxious ads in obnoxious places, don't be surprised if you find yourself losing money.

it's been a constant battle between ads and viewers for decades.
On TV, you don't have to watch ads. You can turn the TV off, change channels, etc. Same with radio
Billboards, signs, etc you can ignore.
It's just purveyors of ads attempting to circumvent the failure to view their ads. In the end the consumer usually wins.

Valheita Many internet sites are starting to block access to people using adblocking software, citing a loss of revenue. And how would they accomplish that? Especially on one as farfetched as mine. I don't think ad-blocking is unethical at all, since, it would really be pointless to block ads if ads weren't annoying.

Ads are annoying but they do have their uses still.

It tries to load something from an adserver, and if it fails then they deduce you're using an adblocker.

This could get complicated.

If companies just took that as a sign and thought "well maybe we shouldn't make obnoxious ads" then they wouldn't have a problem and people wouldn't adblock them.
On a slightly relevant note: some of the ads on Gaia are getting really annoying...so I'm tempted to sign up for autocash so I don't have to see the ads (plus then I'll get GC....actually I was thinking of signing up earlier today before I saw that announcement anyways XD)

I do find flash ads appearing to be annoying which does slow down my web loading. Usually when that happens, I tend to use this addon for Firefox which with one click, it instantly kills all flash content that's on that web page, which is pretty handy for non ad stuff such as the fish tanks that appear in the forums. Other than regular still ads, they're pretty easy for me to ignore so long as I keep my cookies and cache clean.

ads = annoying.
or rather the ones that try and tell me I want to meet sexy Russian girls or talk to hot women really bother me. Especially on certain sites where they REALLY aren't appropriate for the target audience
ad blocks are totally ethical. Thank goodness for ad-block. I had to use the university computers to get on gaia one day and then realised how much of a saviour ad block actually is!

I don't think thats right. Because don't those sometimes carry viruses or something? Plus the adds are downright annoying and my computer is slow so sometimes I accidentilly click on the pop-ups. And there are going to be new things that they can't stop anyway.
