A thunderstorm had plagued the swamp for a few days now, making the water's rise and the trees quiver when the wind touched them. Except for the rain, all was deafeningly quiet. It made one feel like they were being watched, and they probably were. The predators in the swamp were abundant, and oftentimes a kimeti would get caught between their jaws. Grace, however, was not afraid, and broke the silence with her ghostly singing. Living to her name, all her movements were like flowing water, smooth to the point that it was eerie. Some thought she was a ghost.

The lonely buck sat in an odd hollow of an ancient tree. He closed his eyes, breathing in the wet air and listening to the sounds of the swamp. This was not uncommon, as he enjoyed ambient noise above any other pleasure of the senses. Though he was far enough inside to keep the raindrops from splashing directly on his head, the occasional few would spash his face and forelegs as they drifted on the wind. The water was cold, but he didn't care, as his mind was elsewhere.

Somewhere in between the rustling of leaves, the pitter-patter of the rain, and the howl of the wind, he could hear a voice. Or...something like it. It was strange, ethereal, and beckoning in the most mysterious of ways. His ears flicked this way and that, trying to pinpoint the source, but to no avail--he could find not more than a general direction. Still, he was a curious beast, and decided to venture out into the downpour to find just whatever it was that was making such a gorgeous sound.

Grace had sensed the presence of a male kimeti for a few moments though, but she decided not to pursue him. She sensed that he was desiring personal time to reflect and listen to the world around him. Grace was almost doing the same as she wandered through the swamp.

When she saw movement, the buck came into view. She doubted he'd seen her yet, so she went on with her singing as if she hadn't noticed him.

He felt he was close. He was sure of it. The volume of the sweet song grew and grew, until he was sure it's source was close. But through the wind and the rain and the occasional flash, he found it was a bit hard to see. He could at this point, however, see a moving silhouette. It was graceful and slow, and reminded him of soft ocean waves.

Curious, he inched closer. What was this strange figure? His desire for knowledge was taking hold over his lonesome nature, but he still held back as best he could, the small fragment of shyness like a lock and chain.

Grace decided that being more friendly would probably be better for both kimeti. Looking to him, she continued her song, more letting him know that she was getting closer than anything. Once she figured her ghost like figure was out of the shadows and where he could see her, she smiled. "Hello. What brings you out on this stormy night?" she asked, her voice just as ghostly as the rest of her.

((Sorry so short. Did you see my small and invisible text in my post in the main thread?))

Decay could hear the song growing louder--no doubt closer as well. He squinted through the rain as the distant figure grew in size. When the doe finally appeared before him, he jumped. Well, perhaps not quite a literal leap, but a startled twitch. The sudden speech was expected and not at the same time, and it took his brain a moment to register.

He looked to the ground, pacing back a few small steps, one hoof digging into the mud. His ears lay flat, drooping with his characteristic shyness. "Oh, just..." He began to speak, but his words trailed off just as soon as they left his mouth. Quiet words like "rain" and "sound" could be heard in the jumbled mumble.

(( No worries~~~ And yeah, I did. No worries there either. <3 I'd be more than pleased to toss Decay at either of your lovely does if you wished it. ))

Grace knew he was going to be shy before she even approached him. How was it that she knew these things? She didn't know. When he spoke, she understood. "To listen to the sounds of the rain and of the night," she said. After a moment of waiting to see if he'd calm himself, that he would realize there was nothing to be afraid of, she locked eyes with him and gave him a heartwarming smile. "There's nothing to be afraid of" she said, smiling. Shyness usually planted itself in self conscious fear that one would be judged wrongly. Grace wasn't like that at all.

((Haha yay! I don't know with which though. I mean, DN's colors would look good with him, and so would Grace's, and we are rping them. Do you have a preference?))

His feet slipped backwards, like he wanted to move away some more, but something inside him made him stay. Something about the doe's voice was calming the quick, scared pace of his heartbeat. He looked left, right, up, and down, but never directly at her, all while softly chewing his bottom lip. His tail flicked, splashing even more water on his soaked body.

He gazed past her, studying her form and face in his peripheral vision. The look in her eyes seemed sincere, but something deep inside of his soul just wouldn't let him trust so easily. However, with his body refusing to move, and his mouth refusing to speak, he knew he would get nowhere fast. So at long last he mustered up his courage, and spoke one small, quiet word.

"Hello."

(( Ohhhh, I haven't a clue. They're both so pretty, and I can see beautiful babies coming from either. * o* ))

Grace smiled. He was having this internal battle as to whether or not he should let his guard down. She wanted to ask him what had happened to make him this way, but she thought it was inappropriate, as they'd just met. Seeing as he had finally said something coherent, she smiled again. "I'm Water's Grace, but you can call me Grace if you like." Reaching up, she nuzzled him friendly and asked, "What is your name?"

He twitched as she touched him. He was unused to physical contact, having purposefully avoided it most of his life. His body froze, not one single muscle moving except for the beat of his heart.

There was another long pause before his movements slowly resumed. His tail began it's slow flicking once more, and his breathing returned to normal. His words were slow as he spoke.

"Decay."

Another pause.

"Just...Decay."

Grace smiled. For some reason, she liked the name. It was rather dark, but then, so was she. Through her ghost like trance, she had a very dark view of things. "I like that name. " Surprisingly, she didn't know what to say to him next, so she dropped her gaze from his. Not one of her most graceful moments.

"Thanks," he stuttered, the sudden burst a shock even to him. He too moved his awkward gaze from the doe, wondering what he should say next. His mind began to wander again, focusing on the far-off clashes of thunder. The storm seemed to be moving away, he noticed, and the relentless attack from the sky seemed to be lessening it's assault. The rain was slowly becoming a shower rather than a downpour, and the scent that rose from the freshly-watered ground was heavenly. He closed his eyes and sighed, taking it all in.

After a moment, he awoke from his trance with a start. He realized that he must have looked quite silly while he was out of it, and again stared at the ground.

Grace looked up to Decay and smiled again. "At least the rain is letting up. The newly watered earth smells nice." She thought he thought so too, with how he got lost in himself, taking it all in. Closing her eyes herself, she took a deep breathe and let it out, opening them again.

His head still tilted downwards, the buck cracked a small smile, pleased to know that another shared his sentiments. A small "hmm" of agreement escaped his lips as he glanced upwards. For the brief moment when her eyes were closed, he took the chance to further study the doe--Grace, that was her name. He hadn't noticed before, but the way the water ran down her coat made the small blue speckles look like moving raindrops. It was rather beautiful, in an odd sort of way.

He breathed in again, looking skyward. The rain was slowing to just the barest of sprinkles, and soft rays of sunlight could be seen through the branches above. "It does," he said at last, albeit slowly, "Smell very nice, indeed..."

Grace sighed again, feeling the warm sun on her body. Looking up at Decay, her positive yet calm demeanor faded a little. "Why does my presence make you so melancholy?" she asked, thoroughly confused. She wanted to reach out and touch him again, to try and reassure him that it was okay and she wouldn't hurt him. But that would just make it worse...
