((I couldn't just sit there and watch. This is open to anyone watching, and if no one joins I'll simply self RP Haqikah's reactions...)) It wasn't the first time Haqikah visited the Colosseum, but her personal stakes were higher than ever this time. She had paid the fee and handed her personal servant over to the Colosseum staff, trying to look like a sophisticated lady and not like a silly girl out of her element. They assured her that she'd get him back in one piece and that it would be an easy enough fight this time, but she wasn't sure she dared to trust them. When the four slaves entered the arena she heaved a sigh of relief. Four against one couldn't be that bad, could it? And then the rhino entered the arena... Oh, she would strangle that staff member if she ever got her paws on him.
There wasn't much she could do about the situation. Akil was down there and even if she could back out now she'd be out 50 stones for nothing. No, Hakikah wasn't a quitter, she told herself. She'd see this through. With this thought she looked down to see this spectacle, with the pleasant feeling that she was making a great sacrifice just being here watching. Her slave looked almost at home down there. She could see he was scared but he wasn't running, crying or huddling in a corner. Good. That would have been embarrassing.
She was secretly pleased to notice that Akil made the first move, even if all the other cats soon followed, and she was relieved to see that he at least had the sense to avoid the pointy end. The fact that the Rhino hardly seemed to notice the attacks was disconcerting, and his mad trample was downright horrible to watch. Haqikah gasped, and then quickly glanced around to see if someone had seen her do so. ((OOC: Reactions to first round of attacks and rhino counter attack))

Shornic slunk off the stage, embarassed and feigning a slight limp into the shadows, hoping his Hound hadn't been watching that fretful display of cowardice. "What was that about... I just... Froze..." He muttered, glaring at the rhino as the stage shook from his great feet. He slumped to the ground and tried to imagine what his punishment would be. ~All that attitude I'd given earlier, but I couldn't own up?~ He shuddered as another thought crossed his mind, though he still didn't know why and it bothered him to sulking in the shadows. ~Guess I'll have to fix my tongue a bit...~

This was getting to Haqikah more than she thought it would. Before she had even recovered from the shock of all the slaves being trampled Akil was suddenly in front of the beast. And instead of getting out from under its nose he batted at it. Of all the mindless things to do... In any other situation she might have laughed. The small cat trying to take on the large rhino reminded her of a tiny and not too bright kitten trying to swat a large hound. And everyone knew how that usually ended; it was just a matter of substituting "fangs" with "horns".
"What in the WORLD are you DOING," she shrieked, disregarding her usual cool and ladylike manners for something bordering on hysterics, "Get out of there you fool!"
Luckily for her there weren't many proper ladies present, and many more hounds yelled, howled or cheered. Haqikah was standing on her hind legs with her front paws resting on the handrail in front of her to see better. It was gruesome down there and the slaves didn't seem to make much progress in wearing down the beast. But gruesome or not, she couldn't stop looking.

Ottah wasn't shocked or surprised at the odds the four felines had been pitted against. He had seen a good deal of things in his lifetime and he was none too pleased with most of them. He leaned against the railing, his forepaws dangling over slightly, as he watched the spectacle. He brought his bag with him, as he always did when going to the arena. The black satchel was stuffed to the brim with the tools of his trade and sat beside his hind paws. It might have been barbaric, but he usually did recieve an ample amount of work afterwards, especially if no others were willing to take on a cat or two.
Even with settling in Giza, he was willing to make a trip out if an event was going on and he had enough faith in the two felines that he had purchased to think that his office would come to no harm.
"Oh, I have a fantastic idea. Lets take perfectly healthy, able-bodied felines. Then lets toss 'em all in an arena. With a pissed rhinoceros. Then have 'em get trampled while they try to knock it out. So what if they get knocked to the point of being useless?" The sarcasm was simply dripping from his voice as he watched, unamused.

Haqikah winced as Akil seemed to take most of the abuse the rhino dished out while hardly touching the beast at all. He was very loyal and motivated, but the sad fact was that her servant couldn't really protect her against bigger threats no matter how much he wanted to. She started to regret that she had let herself be carried away, but she couldn't very well go back on her word - not in front of a slave. Her morals were flexible (ahem) but that didn't mean that she was prepared to un-decide things willy-nilly. Consistency was key when it came to slaves and your word had to be law.
The weak slave that had passed out in the beginning had been taken away by Colosseum staff, and she hoped that they would intervene if the rhino was about to kill one of the slaves pitted against it. She was starting to doubt that she would get her servant back "in one piece" and not in a bag, and she looked for reassurance among the others watching the game. A red coated hound to her left looked just as disgusted with the display as she had started to feel and she inched a bit closer to him.
"They don't usually... die from this," she asked, dreading what the answer might be. "Do they?"

"It happens now and again, I can assure you. Though sometime's it's not quite that bad. Still, profuse bleeding and broken bones aren't uncommon. Hopefully this lot will make it out with their lives and the ability to continue working, else they'd be in for a rough time." Or perhaps death could be a better result. He scoffed airily, but kept his final musings to himself as he cocked his head slightly, so he could look over the individual that had come nearer to him. She was still young and had the look of a well-to-do hound, he wouldn't have guessed otherwise, really.
He had to wonder for a moment, considering her tone, if one of them belonged to her. He didn't dwell on it for long, though, as he turned his sharp, blue gaze back towards the rather brutal spectacle. The first cat down didn't seem too bad off, but one of them seemed to be taking quite a beating, while the other two struggled to do some damage. Oddly enough, the striped one seemed to be enjoying himself.
Odd.
But the rhino was still going on strong. He had the feeling it would do some damage.

The answer did nothing to alleviate her fears, and Haqikah winced visibly as Akil got another beating from the rhino. Profuse bleeding and broken bones sounded horrible, and not to mention expensive to fix. It was hard to watch, and she wasn't even sure the rhino was getting hurt at all. Not that she was very familiar with raging beasts and how to defeat them. She was sure that standing in front of them would do no good at least.
"So," she tried again, deciding to keep up the conversation since it might distract her somewhat, "Are you familiar with these games."
The hound sounded a bit blood thirsty for her liking, but it wouldn't be polite to just ignore him after addressing him like that earlier.

Hm, she was still there?
To be honest, he hadn't expected her to continue the conversation, then again, he wasn't exactly a social butterfly and, even at his age, wasn't too familiar with what might be expected of him. He had skated through his earlier lessons on thin ice and etiquette must have been one of them. Still, she was a nice distraction from actually watching the "spectacle" taking place below them.
"Oh, well, sort of. I try to attend many of the competitions, but it's been difficult since I've moved. Rather barbaric, if you ask me. A waste of perfectly good stock. But sometimes you have to go to where the money is. Yourself? Ever been here before?" He was quite happy to turn his attention to to seemingly well to do, lovely hound. He really didn't want to watch any more, yet at the same time, if he ended up treating one of the unfortunate felines, it'd be good to know of any sneaky wounds the eye wouldn't catch during just a once over.
He winced slightly. That one cat sure was in for it.

Haqikah wished that she would have thought of bringing a fan and a slave. But then again, her personal servant was down there, and if he hadn't been she wouldn't have had any need of cooling off. She wasn't sure she had a suitably impressive fan for public displays either. The one she used in the privacy of her home was effective but old and not very fashionable.
"I have," she admitted, lowering her ears and allowing her voice to tremble just so, "But it was never as personal before. My mate... former mate... was the one with the interest for these games."
Her features betrayed a carefully measured sadness, as if she was trying very hard to keep it together. It would be utterly impolite to upset a lady further with prying questions, but Haqikah was sure she could handle this hound no matter how he reacted to her act. It was a familiar game to her, and she was good at it. She wouldn't have seen it like that, but at the moment the act of sadness did a better job of distracting her from her real feelings than anything else could.
"My servant is down there," she said, adding a touch more of worry to her voice, "Oh, I wish I hadn't agreed to his last request, but... His eyes, I just couldn't say no."
It wasn't clear who had requested what, but Haqikah tried to make it easy to leap to the conclusion that this had been some kind of dying request that she couldn't possibly deny. Why lie when it was so easy to help others lie to themselves?
