Libraries were icky. Books were icky. Trying to study was icky.

But if G didn't at least try to study, he was going to fail his classes. That was something that had been made very clear to him, and made him quail at the thought. He had to learn how to be a good monster--it was something essential in the swamp beast's mind.

Unfortunately, even by monster standards, Gargantuan looked extremely out of place in a place filled with books and learning and knowledge. His ear fins wriggled and twitched, and he stared at the shelves with long-suffering sighs.

He couldn't even read some of the spines on these, let alone know what they meant.

A few seconds later, Gargantuan was spitting out bits of paper thoughtfully, smacking his jaws together. Books made much more sense when they were eaten! ...But he'd already eaten all of his books, and eating other people's books probably wasn't a good place to start.

Maybe no one would notice. The swamp beast lumbered suspiciously over to another aisle, still licking his teeth. At least he didn't have to study on an empty stomach.

The next aisle over was dedicated to medical texts, by and large, and as such was Malodore's favorite haunt - other than its own room, at any rate. The plague doctor was busy studying the spines, trying to mentally cross-check the collection here with its own so as not to accidentally bring home any duplicates.

The monster's footfall was... less than subtle, though, and attracted Malodore's attention. Large, green - monster -

Books forgotten! Malodore had never seen a specimen like this before, even though it was clear this creature had been shifted into a more manageable shape for the sake of schooling. "Magnifico," it said, beak dropping in a smile. "Good day, Signore..."

Vivisecting one's fellow students was probably not appropriate, but oh how it would like to study this one!

Oh? A strange tongue he didn't recognize! It sounded... pretty, flowing in a sense. In fact, he could have almost mistaken it for the funny things Chuppi said sometimes. When he turned to look at the speaker, however, G soon realized that whoever it was was much, much taller than Chuppi. And bizarre looking, at that! Lingering on the wicked, sharp-tipped fingers, the strange tail, its brilliantly colored grab... and then, of course, that strange mask.

"Hullo." G responded promptly after a moment's pause, the tip of his tail twitching hopefully. "Is a good day, yes.. You like books?" Probably not like how G liked books, but G had never been good at reading.

The monster fidgeted for a moment, fins rippling rather thoughtfully even as he continued to not-so-discreetly eye the other up and down. "Like... Like your mask." He offered after a moment, tilting his head to the side as though to check if it really was a mask settled upon the other's face.

"Indeed I do like books," Malodore murmured, trying to take in all of the monster's massive physique. And this was most likely reshaped into a more manageable form, too - what must he be like in his natural shape?

After a moment, Malodore realized it was being as closely observed - not something it would have expected from a monster that ate books instead of reading them! "Grazie," it replied, bowing its head slightly. "It is indeed a mask, yet it is also my face. Do not try to remove it," it added, in case the monster was getting any 'clever' ideas.

The irony of not wanting its mask removed while ardently wishing to remove bits of the other student's body entirely escaped it.

((... this almost reads like Malodore is hitting on him or something XD *disturbed*))

Hooray! Something they had in common! The monster beamed a little at the bow, then wondered immediately if he should return the favor. Just as he was starting to try and sort out exactly how to bend his body, the talk of that strange, but fun looking mask was enough to distract him. So... it was a mask-face? Gargantuan didn't quite understand how that worked, but it was an acceptable explanation.

"G won't touch." Though the promise was rather simple-minded, it was genuine, and Gargantuan compromised by feeling at his own face. How would it feel to have a mask attached? A mask face?

"Am G," Came the belated introduction, and the beast had the grace to look a little sheepish. "I come to school to be scary. You come to school, too?"

"Grazie," Malodore said, faintly relieved; it occurred to the plague doctor, belatedly, that larger monsters could certainly try and make trouble for it.

Though it could certainly make trouble back, if needed. Still, this monster seemed like a docile fellow. "Indeed so, er, G." It studied the monster once more, thoughtfully. "You do not believe yourself to be fearsome?"

Gargantuan seemed to take the question as a compliment of sorts, ducking his head as though suddenly very bashful. "No... G not very good at scary." He explained with a tiny frown, but clearly unafraid to share one of his deepest, darkest secrets and shame with a complete stranger. But this guy was clearly a friend, and not anyone G should avoid!

"Like bein' nice." He finally mumbled, hunching his shoulders some and letting his thick tail coil around his feet. "But! Nice makes friends for G so. G like nice." Now he was rambling a little, but didn't seem too bothered by the thought, and the tip of his tail twitched hopefully as he resettled his attention on the plague doctor.

Interesting. A psychological malformation, that the monster was genetically predisposed to niceness? Not a survival trait... necessarily.

"What about human-things? Do you wish to scare them?" Malodore inquired, taking subtle mental notes. "That is the most vital component of a fulfilling life, I believe."

"G wanna scare." The monster concluded after a pause, his tail twitching with thought. "If they run 'way, G eat their stuff. 'N boats." There was a faint, dreamy quality to his voice, like he could imagine nothing better in his life than getting to eat someone's prized possessions. Food was clearly a big motivator in G's life. "What you wanna do?" He asked the undead, suddenly curious.

The question startled Malodore into a thoughtful silence. "I want... to be a doctor," it said, finally. Its species said as much; who ever heard of a plague doctor that wasn't predisposed towards the medical arts?

But there were ever so many variations. "I want to scare human-kind, and assist Halloween-kind," it clarified. "Some doctors do only one or the other."

Fix people? That was what doctors did, wasn't it? Sew arms and limbs on people 'n made them all better! Though the swamp beast was silent for a time, his tail thumped a little as he mulled it over, and eventually, he nodded. "G see. Work with Nurse Cricket?" He liked the ghostly nurse with her bugs--but he wasn't supposed to eat them. He'd probably learned that the hard way.

"Make undead?" The monster brightened at the prospect. Maybe this mystery doctor-to-be could make a bunch of new students! Then they could scare humans for him, right? "G dunno doctors. You be second, after Nurse."

From his slightly reverent tone, that was a very special thing indeed!
PostPosted: Mon Dec 27, 2010 11:30 pm

Oho! Malodore definitely approved of the reverent tone. "Yes, indeed - I've already had the pleasure of one course under Nurse Cricket's tutelage," it said, nodding to the swamp monster.

"And... I suppose I could make undead, eventually. Mend them, certainly." The idea of making more of its kind wholesale was not really appealing, at least not anywhere near as much as experimenting, mixing-and-matching parts, and other such delightful endeavors..

This was an odd creature. It tilted its head at Gargantuan, its expression still calculating but softened just a bit from before. It had a singularly disarming personality, somehow...

He'd guessed right! Heavy jaws dropped open in a wide, pleased grin, and Gargantuan's tail slapped wetly against the floor a few times for emphasis. Hooray! Maybe he knew someone now to go to if he ever... well, hm. If he ever got hurt? Yes, that'd do!

"Does Doctor have name?" Now he wanted to know, and perhaps unfortunately, he was inching closer to the undead with the almost sneaky air of someone who didn't want to get caught. "Doctor be friends with G?"

It didn't seem as though his new 'friend' had much of a choice; the swamp beast immediately snatched the crimson-clothed being up in a bone-crushing hug, dripping jaws happily resting themselves on the top of the other's hat-covered head.

Happiness is!
PostPosted: Wed Jan 05, 2011 10:43 am

-oh, merde, what was it doing?! Malodore only just had time to grab the brim of its hat before it was swept up in a crushing...

... gesture of affection...?

Well. It hadn't been expecting that. "Malodore," it managed. Thankfully, it was slim enough that the hug wasn't literally bone-crunching, but it was more than a little uncomfortable given the plague doctor's general aversion to being touched. The 'friends' part, however... that could be useful. And given Malodore's current position, it wasn't inclined to potentially anger the beast...

"Certainly, amici, friends."

There was a low, affectionate purr of a rumble banging noisily about in the swamp beast's chest, and he continued to dotingly nuzzle and nose at the side of Malodore's head. Mal! Mally! Very easy to remember!

It was a very good thing that G had not accidentally smooshed his brand new friend, because hysterics in the library were never appreciated.

After a moment more of cuddling, the beast's fins stood straight up with glee when Malodore consented, and Gargantuan would gingerly let the other down on solid ground once more. "Yay." His tail nearly knocked over a shelf this time, and though it wobbled precariously, it managed to stay upright.

"G a good friend." He reassured the other quite happily, and, with that, he would do his best to hunker down and... well, it looked like he was waiting for instructions.
