One of Malodore's many small complaints about Amityville Academy was that it was much, much too far away from the Crypt. Especially given the number of fascinating tomes at said repository of knowledge... and the weight of said tomes...

The plague doctor was no longer so much walking as it was trudging, arms weighted down by books that it had carried for far too long. Its long fingers ached as they curled tightly around the precious leather - or leather-ish - spines. But it'd be back at the dormitory soon, able to settle in for a pleasant afternoon reading on the couch with its rat Parassita. That thought was what kept Malodore going, step after step, though it could feel its spine creaking and felt quite certain that it would need to adjust a few things that evening. Just one or two vertebrae, nothing too taxing...

Chuppi had been reading in preparation for one of her classes, something she found herself doing more often as of late (well, running and reading since clubs now had her time), and had been so distracted that it took her nose twitching for her to even comprehend that someone might have been nearby. Her ears had not heard any sounds, her eyes had no seen anyone, but it was the Chupacabra's sharp sense of smell (in regard to blood, perhaps) that caused her attention to be grabbed. Red eyes peered over the cover of the book, which was the size of her torso, at the person who was stumbling this way.

Slowly rising to her feet and leaving the book on the ground she waddled over towards the approaching figure, eyes wide and curious.

"Necesitas ayuda? Do you need help?"

((Ah, since I realized Malodore noticed Chuppi in medical class...))

Malodore craned its neck to see over its own books (hearing a faint crack from its spine and wincing; definitely adjustments later). Ah... it was the little bloodsucker from Nurse Cricket's course...

"Grazie, but I thin-" Another crack made Malodore pause and reconsider. "Ah. If you are available, these books are quite heavy..." Indeed, now that the idea of someone else helping had come into its head, the books seemed doubly heavy, and its fingers creaked under the weight. "I would appreciate it, Signorina."

"Oh....Italian? Is that what you are speaking?"

Italian was a language that Chuppi had a very basic grasp of, the words and phrases so very similar to her own native Spanish. Of course that didn't mean she understood everything he...she? (Chuppi went with he, it made it easier on her) was saying, but at least she had a grasp on it.

"Let me help you then, okay?"

The Chupacabra set down her own book and waddled over to the other student, her hands raised up to take whatever was given to her without too much trouble. She was getting stronger while here at Amityville because she was always helping people out! Hopefully they understood her good intentions. . . .

"Si... ah, grazie." Malodore shifted three books - a third of what it was carrying - into the little monster's waiting hands; as the weight shifted, its bones creaked quite audibly.

But now that the little monster was so close, Malodore had a chance to look at her. Monster, most certainly, but of a species it couldn't quite place. That had been the Spanish human-tongue earlier, it thought, but... "What manner of monster are you, Signorina?" the plague doctor asked, rolling its shoulders briefly now that the weight on them had been lessened. Those spines were most interesting...

Chuppi easily took the load of books that were given to her in a single arm, the hand splaying its fingers to keep things balanced. Her other hand held her Thermos, fresh from her back, and she was taking a few sips here and there to give her 'energy' to help out. Lately Chuppi had actually been eating more, what with running to class and running on the track team, but she seemed to be losing weight rather than gaining it. Not wanting to waste this wonderful discovery the monster had actually doubled her normal eating amounts, leaving her to always have the The Straw in her mouth.

"I am a Chupacabra, Senor. You are not a monster, though? You smell more like a demon or a reaper."

The books were shifted as Chuppi finished a particularly long dreg on her Thermos and let it fall back with the strap that held it in place, both hands now holding the books evenly. She could actually carry more if this person - this "him" as Chuppi still said, wanted her to try.

"If you need me to carry more for you, I can. No es una problema. - It's not a problem."

"I have the rest well in hand, grazie," Malodore replied, dropping its beak slightly in a rare smile. A chupacabra, was it? Fascinating... its gaze traveled over the monster's spines, noted the thermos. A hungry, healthy one at that.

"I am a plague doctor - I believe the term is undead, though I am certainly not a zombie." Malodore straightened slightly at that, despite the faint complaint from its spine - it was not some mere reanimated shambler! "The arts of medicine have been passed down in my family for hundreds of years, signorina. My name is L.C. Malodore, though all call me simply Malodore. And yourself?"

"You don't look like a zombie, and a Plague Doctor? Mi familia knows about the plagues, it is a story we tell one another. It was a bad time for many monsters, and it created many undead. So I hear."

Rumors made up a lot of story time for the chupacara and her family, and no one was sure just how many of them were actually the truth or not. It was fun to tell tall tales anyway so usually no one questioned what they heard. It wasn't like in her natural form Chuppi could talk anyway so mot the stories were told in barks, growls, hisses, and the occasional screech. Very much an odd story time.

"Um...let me know where we should be going? I will follow behind you."

"To the undead dormitories, per favore... grazie." Malodore shouldered its burden once more, hefting the remaining load in its arms and gesturing in the general direction of the dorms.

"What do you know of plagues?" it inquired. "My family are quite... traditional. Hidebound." It was obvious from its tone of voice that the plague doctor did not approve. "Uninterested in anything beyond the bubonic, our great progenitor."

"We know that plagues killed lots of animals and people too. But. . . . we were not in that part of the world so it did not affect our kind too much. We came into being much later, or so mi papa says. You must be much, much older than I am to know about the plagues so well."

Being a 'plague doctor' meant very little to the monster who still didn't quite understand the differences between races. She was slowly learning, what with the campaigning and all, but for now everyone was almost the same and they were all taller and older. At least Chuppi was strong enough to go toe to toe with many of them and come out on top.

"And I will follow you, this is quite easy to do. Are you sure you do not want me to carry more books? You are cracking and sound like breaking."

"I am not that old, no. My family is. Hundreds of years of grand tradition." Malodore couldn't quite keep the edge of bitter sarcasm out of its voice, though it tried. "We don't speak much, anymore."

After an awkward pause, Malodore cleared its throat and pointed itself in the direction of the undead dormitories. "Grazie. And no, I am fine now. Nothing is broken, merely creaking. A hazard of the undead, but I can repair myself if need be." And, in the plague doctor's opinion, a bit of creaking under heavy weight was far preferable to flaking off bits of oneself everywhere.

"Ah, I see."

It was really all Chuppi could think to say as the pair walked on, the monster unsure of just what might be a good topic of conversation. She wasn't very big on diseases so she couldn't say much about them nor did she know much about the undead. They smelled really bad and usually were breaking apart - such things where the extent of her knowledge. She shifted the books in her possession quite easily and picked up her stride to keep with this unknown person.

"Ah. . .my name is Temes, by the way, but you can call me Chuppi. Mucho gusto."

Malodore, at least, did not smell really bad - it took especial care with regards to its scent. Today, it smelled mostly of clean linen (from the bandages) and pleasantly aged books. "Temes, then," the plague doctor said with a nod; it also wasn't really one for nicknames. Usually. "You are quite strong, are you not?" It thought, but did not say, strong for your size. Size didn't necessarily correlate to strength, after all. Not here. "Is this a trait shared by all your family?"
PostPosted: Fri Feb 11, 2011 3:27 pm

"By mi famila? I suppose so, we are monsters and are small monsters, even. I am the runt of mi familia though but I am probably the strongest out of my siblings. Mi madre y padre sent me here because I was having trouble not hurting other things."

While it was true that Chuppi was indeed a bit strong for someone her age and size, it certainly wasn't that she was extremely overpowered. Monsters naturally had strength to them and in truth most of Chuppi's power came from her legs. While she could easily lift others and several objects she couldn't even think about lifting her own body weight. She weighed more than all of her siblings as well, the little pooch of her belly a testament to that.

And while she had mentioned that undead did smell bad this person who still hadn't given its name didn't smell so horrible. He smelled rather nice actually, not that the chupacabra was going to make any comments on it. Also, he seemed to be the only one who was going to call her Temes. Neat!

"In my natural form, not this one, I am much stronger though a little bit smaller. Are you the same always?"

She hadn't seen a skull pin.

"The same...? Ah. Yes, I am always like this - or, more succinctly, this is my 'natural form'." The plague doctor glanced down at itself as if examining its own limbs, briefly. "Is it very annoying to be placed into a body different from what you were born into? Unless you shapeshift, naturally."
