HOW IN FEAR'S NAME DID MY CHARACTER ARRIVE IN HALLOWEENTOWN, ANYWAY?

There are two "main" ways to get into Halloweentown, and a couple that are exclusive ONLY to ghost and undead characters:

The first is birth through Fear. Somewhere out there in the mythical human world, someone became scared of something. They became so scared of it, that the very thought and idea they had gave birth to a new citizen of Halloweentown. POP! Just like that, your character is in Halloweentown.
Even though they appear at a relatively "grown" age (as a teen or adult to compare to a Human), they do not have the proficiency that comes with age -- it's a good thing there's Amityville Academy to teach them how to improve their Fear power, right? You can read more about this method here. This is how most citizens came to be. Even though citizens born this way do not have families, it isn't uncommon to see them "adopt" others to be their family or be adopted themselves.

The second method is birth from The Pumpkin Patch. You see, when two citizens of the same race love each other very very much YOU GET THOSE MENTAL IMAGES FROM THOSE DIRTY HUMANWORLD BOOTLEGGED TAPES OUT OF YOUR HEAD RIGHT THIS INSTANT, they will go to the Pumpkin Patch. There they will select a rather small pumpkin (large enough to fit in two hands, really -- it's TINY) and both will add their Fear to it. Over time, this pumpkin will grow larger and larger until -- POP! The pumpkin turns into a Jack-o-Lantern with their kidlet inside!
When the parents of two different subspecies do this, their offspring will take on the appearance of one or the other -- there are no halfbreeds in Halloweentown. Parents of different races tend to have a very, very, very low success rate -- and even then, their child takes after one or the other parent, resulting in a purebred of either species.

For Ghosts Only:
You were a human once, however you suffered a Very Unfortunate Accident and died. Lucky for you, a reaper found you and ushered you into Halloweentown. Unfortunately for you, you don't remember ANYTHING about your past life aside from strong intense emotions. (ie, a former florist may feel happiest around flowers but has no idea why whereas a ghost who was allergic to flowers may want to shy away from/flee from flowers but has no idea why).

For Undead Only:
You died. If you were a human, you sufered a Very Unfortunate Accident and died. Either a rogue necromancer in the Humanworld raised you before banishing you to Halloweentown, or someone in Halloweentown summoned you from your resting place in the Humanworld. Either way, you're here now -- but like a ghost, you don't remember ANYTHING from your past life aside from strong intense emotions.

But what if you're not humanoid? It doesn't change the fact that you died -- you may have been a Monster once, or a Demon or even a Reaper. All that matters is that someone brought you back -- but remembering your past life is difficult, if not impossible. Like the previously-humans, you can't recall anything but an intense emotion.

So what if you're undead and stuck in the human world since your necromancer forgot to banish you? No worries! A reaper can find you. Or someone else from Halloweentown visiting the human world found you. Perhaps you saw someone from Halloweentown and decided to sneak in after them! You could have even been lucky enough to find someone else's passport and used that to arrive.

Either way, you're still dead. But at least you have a nice unLife ahead of you.

Please note that all the information presented here in this guide is for backstory only. If you wish to pursue a life/death plot, please contact the staff with a Damn Good Reason.

HELP! I JUST SUFFERED AN UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT, WHAT DO I DO?!

While your student is on the Amityville Academy campus, death cannot happen. No matter what, a teacher or horde of gnomes always seem to show up at the right time to haul a potential carcass up and over to the nurse's office for treatment. If you wish to learn more about injuries and treatments, please visit the Nurse's Office.

Now. What if you're off-campus and something unfortunate happens? Well, with luck you'll have a friend or kind stranger nearby to haul you to the nearest Fear Healer. If not, then your body will be sent either to your friends/family, or left in the public crypts over night. There, one of several things happen:

1) Fear Regeneration:
Your Fear will slowly begin to regenerate and repair itself. This process usually takes a very long time to complete. With luck, nobody will disturb you while your Fear attempts to knit you back together in the former shape you were. Fear Healers can tap into your Fear and manage it, shortening the time spent healing by powering your natural Fear with their own. If an inexperienced Fear Healer attempts to give assistance, however...

2) Something Goes Horribly Wrong:
Namely, your Fear DOES manage to reboot itself. However, despite the fact that it's made your body functional again, it forgot to make sure everything worked. Your heart stopped, your blood no longer pumps, your skin is pale white and ice cold, yaddayadda. Congratulations! You're now Undead, and there isn't a known way to reverse this. Good job.
It IS possible for experienced Fear Healers to turn you Undead -- a good reason as any to remain on their good side, too. There are even some spells that can move your body from Halloweentown into human world and make you rise up again, granted it's someone elses' Fear that's reanimating your undead-self presently. Once their spell wears off, however, your Fear will return enough to command your own body -- provided that they remembered to banish you back to Halloweentown first, that is. Otherwise being stuck in the human world is rather difficult given how quickly your Fear runs out. Nevertheless, there are times when the Fear doesn't work at all and

3) You Are Seriously Dead:
Depending on what your last wishes were (if any), usually your body is shipped back home or to your closest friend/relative who decides what to do with your body. Donate parts to those who need a new arm, leg, or spleen? Pass it off to a local chef to prepare a meal in your memory? Whatever the case, don't despair just yet, because sometimes

4) Something Goes Horribly Wrong Postmortem:
Well, you THOUGHT you'd ge to rest in peace, but no. Something managed to grasp your lingering Fear and solidify it into a transparent ghostly mass, effectively bringing you back from the dead. Call yourself a spirit or ghost now -- there's no way to get your old body back now, not after seeing the joy Pete had with a new arm and after tasting that rather delicious mystery meat sandwich you had.

Nevertheless, death CAN happen in Halloweentown -- just don't be shocked when it happens to you.

---------------
OOC: This part of the guide is still heavily under construction. If you are interested in your character becoming an Undead or Ghost, please keep in mind that that is not an option at this time and has been mentioned here only to serve as an example as how a ghost/undead character came about. If you're really, really, REALLY interested however, please feel free to approach the staff with a Damn Good Reason.

Concerning joining the ranks of the Undead and Ghost:
Having your character switch races is VERY rare! Just wanting to switch or kill your character off will NOT result in becoming either one of these -- instead, you'll just wind up with a dead character. You need to REALLY IMPRESS THE STAFF in order to be allowed to do this.

For all intents and purposes, the only characters who may "switch" are those who enroll into Amityville Academy as an Undead or Ghost, and even then the "switch" is entirely back story. Even then, the upon dying the body goes through enough physical trauma that they still lose their memory.

ALL UNDEAD/GHOSTS do not have memory of their former lives. They may still have intense emotions left over, however they have no idea as to why. It's up to their former friends/family to help them out, and even then it all depends on whether or not said friends/family want them back too.

F.A.Q.

Q: Can my character be a human that's been cursed?
The only "humans" allowed at TiH at this time are those that are now dead, ie ghosts and/or undead. These characters, however, have no memory of the human world at all.

Q: So there's no pregnancy in the "traditional" real-life sense?
Nope.

Q: Not even for reapers?
Nooope.

Q: What about a topic that I shouldn't mention or RP here since it's not PG-13?
I'm not answering that don't you kids have other things to RP? neutral

Q: I want a half ____ and half _____!
At this time no. If you can come up with a Damn Good Reason however, we might let you have a character like that.

Q: So you can die in Halloweentown?
TL;DR: If there isn't a Fear-healer around, there is a chance yes.

Q: Can my character die?
If you want them to, sure? But dead characters can't exactly go to school anymore...

Q: Can I change my character from _____ to _____?
No. Go re-read the second post for more information.
