-The backpack swung precariously from her arm. A tanned arm which dipped and weaved with each step she took along the decorative brick wall. Green tennis shoe meeting red brick step after slow step. It wasn't hard, she'd walked on far smaller before, but the offset balance added a little challenge to the task at hand. And all in all it was time consuming.

Aitana had left for school early, but the morning was slowly ticking away as she dilly dallied, entirely unconcerned by the prospect of being late. The school was still too far away to be seen, all there was was the wall and the breeze. It reminded her a little of home despite the starkly different backdrop, and she was mildly surprised by the small twinge of homesickness.

It'd been a month now atleast and she was getting slowly used to her new surroundings. A faux family, a strange set of 'friends', a new school, and a not so new but still sometimes surprising language. Really.. it seemed more like people had problems understanding her than she had of them. It was alot for a fifteen year old.

If she hadn't had a backpack she might have tried to cartwheel. To hell with her skirt or the potential she'd face plant into a bunch of concrete.-

Just at that moment when the girl had been pondering a cartwheel, a tall blonde girl jogged past. She had a denim backpack slung across her back that bounced vigorously with her movements. It was impossible to tell what was going on in her mind, but it definitely was not cartwheels.

Had it been a normal day, she would have noticed the green haired girl on the brick wall. No, Ellie's mind had been wrapped up with her own personal dilemmas to really pay much attention to anything. At least, anything that wasn't dealing with the repair of The Spectrum. Academics were most likely taking a dive during this trying time in the teen's life, though it probably wouldn't show up in her grades for another few weeks.

Her expression and body language seemed to read "Do not approach," which only made her seem like more of an interesting challenge.

-Drawn out of her ponderance by the sound of shoes padding quickly across the pavement Aitana watched a figure slide past her. Blonde hair, fairly boring backpack, she hadn't really had a chance to take note whether the figure that'd zoomed by was a boy or girl. Not until she noticed the similar school uniform atleast.

Was the girl late for school, and by proxy her as well? She glanced down at a wrist that carried no watch, going so far as sticking her tongue out at the offending wrist for being so useless. Perhaps she was late! But more importantly...-

"A race it is!!" -She whooped out in a loud proclaimation, a simple enough statement that it wasn't too mangled or marred by the girl's strong accent.

Her pace increased taking longer strides that she knew would eventually make her have to leave the wall if she wanted to win.-

Ellie heard what sounded like a war cry announcing the apparent race. Had the tomboy agreed to this race? No, not really. Gold eyes seemed disinterested, almost upset at the sudden event that was taking place. Those same golden eyes only spared this green-haired girl half a second before turning to face forward again.

She was wearing the Meadowview red-orange uniform, so their goal was most likely the same.

Was Ellie going to take this challenge that had presented itself? Even after her beloved motorcycle had been damaged heavily due to a sudden reckless decision to race. Some things never changed.

Hitching her backpack up along her back, the blonde seemed to lean forward, as if she was getting serious. Jogging was one thing. Running was another, and Ellie had a decent advantage in the fact she had such long legs. After about five seconds more, the pace of her feet slapping against the concrete seemed to speed up.

It was on!

-Her steps were reckless, frightening even perhaps to any stranger that might have been watching the young teen cruise across the wall. The width was barely larger then her feet and had it not been for years of balance beam training as a youth she most certainly would have slipped. Granted the wall wasn't THAT high, but you never knew the kind of injuries concrete and sloppy landings might cause. Aitana's mother went through enough antibiotic cream in her younger years to supply a playground for a year.

The other girl was pulling ahead and Aitana began to sway and stumble after one step a little too far to the right, catching herself before she fell. Too close! She pivoted, green sneakers touching air before they slammed into the ground, knees accustom to such force and torture helping her recover quickly. Balance gained she shot off again after her opponent, trying her best to make up the distance the longer legged girl had made.

A howl of laughter sounded behind Ellie like a wild beast and the green haired girl pounded the pavement with arms swishing roughly through the air. That totally helped right, that's how she always saw it in the Olympics.-

Apparently I am racing with a psychopath.

It wasn't exactly like Ellie was looking back behind her to see the distance between the opponents. No, that wasn't what you did in a race. In a race, you push yourself and don't worry about how everyone else is doing. The moment it becomes an issue of how well you are doing compared to others, you've lost.

The blonde came upon a turn, and so she prepared accordingly. Treating this almost like a motorcycle race, she leaned into the turn a bit so that when she rounded the corner, it was tight. Sloppy, loose turns became wide turns which allowed an opening for someone to slip by. There would be one more turn later in the path, and then it was a straight way to Meadowview after that. It wasn't exactly The Maze material (somewhere in the back of her mind, she grumbled about her recent adventures with The Maze), but sometimes such simple races were nice.

All this running was definitely getting Ellie's blood pumping.

-She'd made up a little ground after hitting the pavement, the distance shortening by a small margin until the curve came. Aitana was no track star, and the blonde's strategy was unknown to her. She whipped around the corner as fast as she could though nonetheless.

Despite being fairly new to Destiny City the path to school had become a familiar enough path for the foreign exchange student. As soon as they'd rounded the corner and Aitana had spotted that strange beige mailbox she knew exactly where they were.

There wasn't much time to catch up and her legs were beginning to burn from the strain, but that wasn't going to stop her. A race was a race and she was no quitter! They rounded the last corner, the school growing quickly on the horizon. She could deal with leg cramps and burning lungs once they got to the school.-

The thumping of feet against the concrete was getting louder. Usually a sign that someone was catching up. Soon enough both girls had rushed past the mailbox. They ran past several houses. They ran until the school was in sight.

Though Ellie was frequently known for jogging or running places, she wasn't exactly a professional track star. Her lungs were burning her insides and her knees were starting to feel a bit stiff at the joints. She couldn't quit now, since it was the home stretch. Leaning forward, as if there was some sort of ribbon to bust through in a marathon, the blonde reached her destination. The few students that were around stared at her as if she was a lunatic, and a pair were even whispering amongst themselves while blatantly looking at her.

None of that really seemed to matter as Ellie leaned over, holding her hands against her thighs and panting heavily. Oh god, sweet air in the lungs. What a rush!

(Roll for winner, higher roll = winner? ;D )

((Ohhh I'd intended on Ellie winning anyway. She had a head start and has the longer legs. :3 I'll roll for fun anyway but it works better for me if Ellie wins >3 More than 5 very close, less than 5 a few lengths behind))

-Grit her teeth, swing her arms, and try as she might Aitana just couldn't make up what the other girl could do with her longer legs. She'd put up a good fight but she pulled into the school a good four or five lengths behind the blonde, her arm lifting to give Ellie a less than gentle congratulatory slap on the back as she passed by.

The noises that were coming out of her were strange, a mixture of laughter and gasping huffs and puffs for air as she joined Ellie in the strange bowled over position. Be damned those people standing around shooting the two looks of disdain or laughter. Once Aitana had dug up enough strength she grinned to the other girl between breaths, offering a heavily accented 'congratulations'.- "Ha.. ha.. ha! You are very good, yes! I will beat you next time though!"

-She kind of looked like hell, sweaty, skin flush with color, small bits of hair askew having escaped the tight pull of her braids, but she wouldn't have it any other way. Best start of the school day she'd had so far here in Destiny City!-

Between huffs and puffs, Ellie managed to get one question out into the air. "Ya ain't..... from 'round here... are ya?" The main give away was the way the other girl spoke, but even looking at her now, she did look a bit foreign.

Then again, since when had green hair ever been a "unique" color in Destiny City? Eventually, the blonde straightened up, then swung her backpack so she could get inside of it. Reaching in, she managed to find what she was looking for and pulled out a skull-shaped novelty watch.

"Good... still 30 minutes til class!" Normally, 20 minutes before class was when the senior got to school, which gave her some extra time to work in the metal shop class to work on her own personal projects. All of which had been very motorcycle-part themed these days. Ellie was still breathing pretty hard, but she began to walk, ignoring all of the stares from the scant amount of students nearby.

-Her brows arched in surprise as the other girl spoke, looking particularly intent for a moment as she tried to decipher the accent. It wasn't that hard actually.. she just had to pay attention and make a few assumptions on the sentence. A firm nod was given as Aitana lifted an arm to her forehead to wipe away a few beads of sweat at her hairline.- "Brazil! I transfer here this year."

-Adjusting her backpack mildly, she watched as an interesting little trinket was procured and as Ellie suddenly turned and began to walk. Assuming it was her that Ellie had made the comment at she began to follow.- "Is long time, I usually get here much later."

-It seemed along with a race she might have earned herself a tag along for awhile.- "Where do we go?"
PostPosted: Wed Oct 27, 2010 6:50 am

"Brazil? Ain't that th'one reject South American Country that doesn't speak Spanish?" Oh Ellie, spouting out the information she learned in Spanish class when it wasn't appropriate. Thinking before she spoke was not one of her fortes.

The teen wasn't out of energy yet, but she at least was lacking enough energy to jog. So instead she was walking to the building that housed metal shop. Upon the prompt, the blonde clearly shared her view on the situation. "I'm goin' t'metal shop. Dunno where th'heck yer goin', t'be honest. That's up t'ya, kid!" It wasn't exactly like the senior was begging for the company. However, it wasn't like she was shooing the girl away either.

"So, do ya got a name, or should I start callin' ya Brazil?"

"Portuguese" -She answered dutifully before trying to place what 'reject' meant in the way it'd been used. It usually meant to not chose something right? Brazil was not something not chosen! Her words were slightly defensive as she seemed to have half caught on that it might have been an insult.- "Brazil is special, yes. Biggest and best country in South America."

-But as quickly as it was there, it was gone. Aitana seemed more concerned with catching the half words escaping the blonde and trying to make something of them. She wasn't certain what a metal shop was, other than perhaps a place that sold metal, but curiousity had gotten the better of her. That and lack of anything else to do.

Her breath and heartbeat for the most part was back to normal and she cruised along only fast enough to keep up with the longer legged girl. Laughing a little at the question she mused mildly.- "Is a pretty cool name I think. I would not mind it."

"But my name is Aitana. Sophomore."
PostPosted: Wed Oct 27, 2010 7:09 pm

"Ah, yes... 'special'... riiiight!!" Special as in mentally handicapped, then yes (at least that was the way Ellie saw it). The pair walked past some lockers, and soon enough were at the corner of one of the school buildings. They walked up to a door, and Ellie spun around to open it with her back, twirling to face the other girl who had decided to come along.

"So yer last name is Sophomore, or are ya jus' tellin' me yer grade level fer no real reason?" The blonde hadn't prompted it, so it seemed a bit out of place. Allowing the girl entrance into the building while she held the door with her back, her own introduction was offered.

"I go by Ellie Spectre." Grade level wasn't important to her, so she simply did not include it. Then the next obvious question.

"So is yer next class in 'ere or somethin'?"

-It was common practice, at least she'd thought so to state one's grade level. The same as if she'd mentioned she were on the volleyball team. The other girl, Ellie, was making fun of her, that was for certain now, and it received a mild frown from Aitana and her hand lifted to try and brush the words away.- "Aitana Ceu Matos. Two last names."

-With her standing there, and offering the question she did it almost seemed as if Ellie were guarding the 'metal shop'. Hiding something intruiging behind her back. Rocking up to her tiptoes she tried to peep unsuccessfully through the door.- "First class is math. I wanted to see metal shop."

-Coming back down to her heels, she seemed to crouch down a little lower, a grin crossing her face as she suddenly shot forward, trying to go under her arm and through the door.- "Do not hide it."
