This moss-green, delicate, and obviously expensive journal was purchased in a small shop in China before Mao moved out to Nirvani to.. well, get away from it all. He usually used the book to keep shopping lists and recipes, as well as some odd ideas on curing fatal illnesses.. with equally fatal plants! Pneumonia with nightshade – it's a wonder the man was allowed to own a clinic or even manage through medical school with idea like that! Either way, that's exactly what he did. In a few pages, there appeared to be some doodles of stick-figures hanging themselves or committing numerous other means to suicide that Mao added in while seeing a few of his more mind numbing clientele.. It wasn't until recently that he actually started to write anything down within the pages, but even then, they aren't really much.. Mao keeps his journal on his book shelf between a jar of what appears to be pickled snakes and a few thick books. As a note, unless you are capable of reading traditional Chinese characters, don't bother looking.

Spring 7th // Year 2 // Entry 1 Lovely year, I suppose. No, no, it isn't. Oh, well, it's a living. My plants died. Zhi somehow saved a few. I still don't see the use of having her around, especially now that she refuses to do farm work, but at least she seemed happy to take care of my leeches. Even named them. Odd, but I won't judge what one would like to do with their food and medication. I had a few doctors, fired some, hired new ones. One constant is Mei Hwa Li. Pretty girl, can't deny that, but not very bright. She follows orders well, however, so I will keep her around. Perhaps ask if she knows anything on gardening. Two new infants, Peter Tamaki and Muse St. Jean. Both don't look promising, considering the registered father. Met a woman out in the forest and another during a stupid charity event Zhi begged me to join. Both are bitchy and annoying pests with too much esteem for themselves. ..I do enjoy that in a woman.

Summer 15th // Year 2 // Entry 2 Two patients. One, stab victim, young girl, attempted to play a cello one year poorly. Stupid, possible drug addict if I am to believe the officers. Second patient, stripper, male, boring. Catatonic stupor, which is, as I have said, boring. He does nothing, no reaction, no sounds, no twitches.. There is the occasional movement, but they are too sporadic to be considered anything important. His brother came in today. It was a boring meeting, as he refused to harm himself for my entertainment and did little more than whine over his brother's state. I have yet to see Mei anywhere, but I would believe she is hiding in the closet again with that patient of ours. I have been thinking of transferring Ms. Valentine to a more suited psych ward, considering she's a boring t**t who threatens the livelihood of my clinic everyday.. However.. I will miss watching her 'tease' Mei if this does become the case..
Zhi has moved out. I don't care, but I suppose I should record that somewhere before she comes back and the opportunity is wasted.

Fall 28th // Year 2 // Entry 3 Sovereign Cough Cure Revision
It has long been believed that boiling snails in barley water could potentially cure a common cough. I haven't tried this on anyone yet as no one has come in with this ailment, but I have considered quite a few possibilities with this particular recipe. I am still looking into this cure's origins and possible past records of it's success rate, but I have little to go on. I almost thought of asking Freja, but, her? No. She would probably mess up everything by giving me some magic book. Ugh, delusional women like that are such a waste of time. I will find out more on the possibilities of this recipe later, on my own. There is also a pair of pretty women who have joined my staff this season. Milinda Romane, who honestly has done little more than encourage Mei to be more stupid than she was before instead of actually nursing as she should. Oh, well, at least it's been easier to find Mei due to her.. Then, there's Emily Parker or Milly as she tried to get me to call her. A nickname? With her boss? We're hardly on a first name basis! Presumptuous woman.
Oh, I've transferred Jillian Valentine finally and Zhi has yet to come home. Interesting, I would have thought she would have by now.

Winter 20th // Year 2 // Entry 4 I saw Zhi a few days ago; the girl begged me to participate in that boring White Day auction she controls. Something about a lack of straight men – which, I suppose, makes sense after looking over the males in town. I'm surprised there are as many children as we have considering how many men here prefer men.. Ah, but, I'm sure several were simply too stupid to know which gender they liked and screwed up. It seems to be the most logical assumption, considering that Zhi is such a confusing individual. What was the term Min-Ya used? ..A trap, wasn't it? I suppose for those more dimwitted people she would be a 'trap'. Oh, no matter. I participated and was forced to go to some woman's house. Natalia Piper; an odd one, really. I would call her insane if I had to describe her, what with how she continued to shift from a pathetic excuse of a person, then to something a little more entertaining. She's too simple looking to really catch my interest, though, and I don't want to deal with another Jillian. ..Any woman who stays with three disgusting dogs isn't worth my time.

Spring 18th // Year 3 // Entry 5 Zhi has decided to leave the island. I'm not surprised, really, it was either she rely on me or Min-Ya. I'm obviously the better choice, but when she comes back I'll have plenty of time to tell her just that. For now, I have been busy with a new project of mine. Since Zhi decided to be an idiot and drop out of school, I have no excuse anymore to watch Judith as I've spent my mornings doing. No doubt she's noticed, but I don't think she cares enough to pay attention to it. The teachers at the school, though, do, which means I need some excuse to be on school grounds if I want to avoid being pestered by the staff. Having a child seems to be the perfect solution to that, so I have been researching lately on methods to impregnate women. I would have asked Judith to do the honors, but I'm afraid she's incapable of helping in that category, so I suppose I'll settle on Mei. However stupid she is, her being Chinese at least means our child would have better genes and I know I can make her do anything if I tell her to. Tools can be useful at times, I suppose.

Summer 7th // Year 3 // Entry 6 I have found it! The perfect mixture to truly increase fertility and, thus, make any attempt at fertilization definitive! I'm certain I can twist the recipe into increasing the development rate, although the mother may be a little worse than wear due to that.. Ah, well, it doesn't matter to me considering who the 'new' child bearer will be. I went to inform the woman about my break through, as a fellow alternative science follower (even if she insists on calling it that dreadful 'magic'..), but her pride got the better of her. Jealousy, I'm sure, had her telling me my plan was stupid and her silly ritual which I can't even bother to remember the name of was correct. We decided to try them both out – on her because, really, she was the one to start this moronic waste of time competition, she should have to deal with the pregnancy. ..Although, I do think she would make better genes than what Mei could provide..

Fall 2nd // Year 3 // Entry 7 After a few grueling weeks, we've had a success; Freja is officially pregnant and, obviously, it was my mixture that caused it. The woman seems to believe otherwise, but I don't have much faith in a lesser's cognitive ability, especially when said individual continues to insist on something 'otherworldly' to exist. Magic? Honestly, I don't see the appeal. Even Mei doesn't seem dumb enough to believe in unicorns and witches! Oh, well, I'll make sure our child won't end up like their mother. I have been monitoring her pregnancy weekly to make sure nothing is disrupting my child's development – ah, and I have given Freja the tea to decrease the length of time. Hopefully I won't have to deal with Freja for very long. ..But, she is much more charming pregnant than not. If I wasn't so intent on having the child as soon as can be, I probably would have concocted something to give the reverse affect.
