I understand why a person would. And it's difficult for me to believe that some people honestly don't care about how they're viewed. I know some people who really don't, but... I dunno, I guess it's all about how you manage the lie, how you cover your tracks -- and I think people even come to a point where they start to believe the lie themselves.

I guess how far would you take it?

I dunno. I've been thinking about it A LOT and I figured I'd ask to LSG ladies since you all seem to be open-minded individuals. I bet some guys'll get in on this, too, but I didn't really want it in the main forum.

Not really my reputation...but I lied so my friend wouldn't kill both me and the guy we managed to both hook up with without either knowing. neutral So...I think that one makes sense.

It depends, but yeah, I've done it before and I'd do it again if for some reason a situation as bad as it came up again.

I've told a lies and bent some truths in my day, but it's usually not about saving face for me, but for other people.

I don't really find the need to do it for myself, because to be honest, I don't do anything that would be considered shameful/bad.
And really, if it is for others, well that sucks for them.
The people who don't give a s**t about what I do are more important than dickwads who would literally sit there and judge me.
What are they, bored? XD

No ones really judged me in my face before, and if they ever do or do it behind my back, then kudos to them for not having anything else to do.
I really don't give a s**t. :3

I haven't lied to save my reputation so much as maybe omitted things? Even though I don't agree with it, small lies tend to be fine- as long as there aren't too many that pile up.

My ex-roommate, however, is so obsessed with her reputation that she lies about almost everything- the way people treat her, what she's accomplished, how she spends her time, everything. I don't understand it at all.

I can't think of a circumstance in which I'd need to do this. If I've done something shameful its probably better to own up to it than to lie about it. But that has nothing to do with my reputation.

If you are talking about sex, I don't give a ******** what people think of my sex life. That's their problem. Although I don't really see this being an issue outside of high school.

I don't ever lie for my reputation, but I certainly always try to defend it, perhaps too much sometimes.

My mother was always so obsessed with how people she'd never even interact with would potentially see her (ex. she wouldn't let me wear "my hair in my eyes" when I was growing out my bangs to the point that she'd forcibly do my hair every day.. she'd constantly throw out my clothes and refuse to let me wear things she didn't like in case people had the tiniest "her parents let her wear that?" kind of thoughts). My mom is so ridiculously wrapped up in the idea of looking right on the outside, which is hilariously awful knowing how horrible living with her behind closed doors can be.

I picked up my issues in that realm from her, but I'm far less concerned than I used to be.

Nora I was treated the same way. She had to approve my hair, my clothes, how I wore them, and what I did with my time. She would yell at me for getting b's because it wasn't acceptable in her family.

Usually I tell people the truth to the point where it's uncomfortable. I'm really open with my friends and family. But I shut out a lot of other people. So it kind of depends how well I know them if I'll even talk to them about something.

I once lied about reading a bunch of books because I was jealous of my genius brother getting all the praise and I wanted to seem smart. I was, like, 5.
