He had been in the pride for almost a week already, he was getting used to the soft ground and the wet paws. He was even enjoying doing some well earned mud baths. The thing he was enjoying the most though was the company he was keeping. Staying with Lawanda was something new and unusual and he was enjoying it.

In his whole life he had never agreed to simply stay in one place with a female, girls were for one thing in his mind, usually any way, but Lawanda, well she was different, she reminded him in some way of his mother and because of that he couldn't hurt her.

Well that wasn't the only reason, he saw the glimmer of wisdom in her eyes and knew somehow that she would make his life misery if he hurt anyone so he was, which was very unusual for him, on his best behaviour.

The dark khaki lioness lay in the mouth of her den with her eyes closed, she was enjoying the wispy sun which filtered through the morning fog. She opened one eye as Tukwana approached and smiled. "Had fun frog hunting?" She questioned guessing why he had been absent from her side.

She usually knew what he was doing even if she wasn't with him and she knew it freaked him out. Truthfully she was old enough to see and hear the little signs of what a person was going to do with themselves and the big male she had 'taken in' could be read as easily as a book.

Tukwana shakes his head, how did she know where he had been? At times he thought she was a mind reader, then other times he simply noticed she watched everything and everyone very intently. She was a patient female and he liked that about her she knew exactly what to say when to say it.

He had a burning question on his mind though so he lay next to her nodding. "You are a mind reader Lawanda." He grins grooming a paw before looking in to her deep red eyes. "I wish to ask you a sensitive question, is it okay?"

The red eyes lioness smiles and laughs. "I am no mind reader Tukwana, I simply know how to see, know how to watch you. For example, I watched you go off towards the best frog hunting place and when you left your stomach was making a very loud noise, and now you return and your stomach is considerably quieter." She grins her bloody red eyes dancing playfully.

She goes quiet for a moment, she guessed what he would ask and she wouldn't deny him the question. "If you wish Tukwana, I may not answer fully though." She smiles.

Tukwana looked embarrassed, he had never felt embarrassed his whole life yet here he was feeling ashamed that he wanted to ask her something personal. "Well, I wanted to know why you have a limp. Did someone hurt you?" He bristled a little, he could hardly imagine anyone hurting this kind hearted female, but those, those like himself did hurt creatures like her.

he felt a wave of guilt for what he had done in the past, a wave which he had never felt before and he chomped it back like a horse at a bit. He would not feel guilty he did what he wanted, at least when he wasn't around Lawanda.

Lawanda chuckles "Well I expected a completely different question Tukwana, but calm yourself." She pauses and smiles. "No one has ever hurt me Tukwana, I can take care of myself and I travelled a very long way in my quest to see everything I could." She smiles assuringly at the big blue male, he could seem sweet sometimes but she knew he wasn't all sweetness and cream, he could be dangerous, she could see that.

"I was born with my limp. I was my mothers only child in her first litter and I was very large, My foreleg got trapped on the way out and it never straightened. I get on very well though I have lived with it all my life." She smiles a proud smile, she never let her handicap get her down, she had always been a very capable lioness.

Tukwana raises a brow. "I see, I thought perhaps someone had hurt you on your travels." He resisted saying it could have been me hurting you out there and simply smiled a crooked, cheeky grin.

"What exactly was the question you were expecting from me?" He raises a brow his deep blue eyes sparkling playfully. He had little inkling of what exactly she had in mind.

Lawanda was caught, for once by surprise. What had she been thinking? Well what she always thought when she spent any amount of time with a male. It had been a while since she had, had a male at her side, since her last litter in fact and with them grown and off on their naming quests she was once again free to have a temporary male in her life.

"Well I thought you might ask if I have a mate, the answer, of course is no." She chuckles,s he was too old and set in her ways to be taking on a male in her life,s he was happy being single, but she did miss the pitter patter of little paws. She loved being a mother.

Tukwana raised a brow. He hadn't even considered asking a question like that. He supposed she was single, maybe, he wasn't really sure what he had though, it certainly hadn't been that she had a mate.

"Have you ever had a mate?" It was an odd question, he knew it, but a question he felt needed asking in this situation, certainly, he didn't want to be her mate, but she was nice to hang around with and, he thought, she was beautiful, worth spending some tlc on.

"Yes, I had a mate once, I loved him very much but he vanished not long after my first litter left to find their own way in the world." She sighed lightly, she had loves Hasani tau but where he had gone she did not know and she would never take another mate.

"I have had litters since but I would not take another male. I do simply enjoy being a mother. It's a nice feeling knowing you are looking after the future." She chuckles nudging Tukwana gently. "I would not ask you to be my mate Tukwana, I do not want one but I would certainly not turn away your advances." She smiles a sly little grin, she was old enough to know what she wanted and she could ask for what she wished, after all, she had a feeling this could be her last litter if in fact she could still conceive.

Tukwana was almost shocked by her words, he quickly got over that shock though and broke in to a short laugh. "Well, I have never known a lady like you Lawanda. You know what you want don't you?" He smiles a broad smile and licks her cheek. "How could I refuse such an offer from you? You're the most beautiful, peculiar lady I have ever met. I think you may have changed me in a way I have never been changed."

He shakes his head and chuckles. "That sounds very profound for me Lawanda. I would love to help you be a mother again." He smiles a cocky grin, his dark eyes sparkling happily.

Lawanda smiles and returns the affectionate nudge provided to her, she smiles. She had a fairly no nonsense approach to this whole baby making thing these days. There was no love involved, except for when it came to the actual babies. They were loved, adored, pampered, cared for. Their father, if he should appear again, would get to meet him, but other than that he was strictly paws off. She loved being a mother, she just hoped she could conceive.

"Come, lets go and have a little walk together. Theres a very nice ridge, it's very, well romantic." She chuckles and gets to her paws flicking her tail under his nose.

Tukwana gets to his paws and chuckles. "You drive a very irresistible bargain Lawanda." He chuckles and stretches, getting to his paws he follows the large female with his tail in the air. He could not possibly have predicted that this particular conversation would have gone this way, if anything, he couldn't possibly have predicted what she would want from him.

He was most certainly happy to reciprocate. She was a beautiful female and he, he knew, was a virile male. He could hardly wait to help her out. She was the first female, that wasn't his mother, that he truly respected.

Lawanda lead the big male to the ridge where she had brought one other male before him. She was pleased that she could once again tempt a younger male to come with her, that perhaps this would be her last time, her last litter. That just maybe she would not be able to conceive worried her but her worries melted away quickly as a night with Tukwana alone in her favourite place in the swamps lasted well in to the night.

She just hoped it wasn't all for nothing.

Tukwana was simply over the moon that he would get to spend his nights with this lovely lioness. That he was helping her in the only way he could and that she was helping him in ways he never thought he needed before.

This would be a very nice couple of moons. They would both, it seemed, be helping each other more than he had initially thought.
