The morning was yet so young that the moon could be seen across from the sun and Cunning Lily found herself marveling at the dance the two did as one took over the sky to relieve the other. In truth, she imagined them as lovers from afar - never quite able to touch or share the same area but always there for each other. It was a fascinating thing to think about as the young doe sat there in the forest, relishing in the youth of the morning and the quiet of the woods around her. This was her favorite time, one without interruptions and other kimeti to ruin the peace.
Of course, not all kimeti ruined the peace and quiet, it was just that Cunning Lily was shy and awkward around others and somehow always wound up saying something or doing something that would rattle the tranquility in the air. At least, that's what she was afraid of happening and so even though it had happened a sparse few times she meant much of her time as a meek doe, not really approaching others to talk unless she had little other option. And so it was for tranquility she had slipped away that morning to watch the dance of the sky lovers as one left the other.

Grace had been singing a while. The kimeti song was probably the most beautiful thing about the swamp. Grace sang beautifully, true to her name, as she glided along, like a ghost, through the swamp. The coming dawn was greeting her, and she knew that the moon was tired and needed sleep, as did she. The weakness was in her legs and in her will, but she knew that she needed to keep going. Where? Why? She had no idea. Grace wandered.
The sense of another kimeti, a doe, was around her, so she glanced around, trying to see her, pausing her song.

It took quite a while for the song that Cunning Lily heard to fully register in her mind as something more than just an internal song to the story she was thinking of as she watched the sun and moon move across the sky. One going to rest, the other coming to wake the rest of the world to share in their joys and sorrows of the day. As that realization dawned upon her, she looked down from the sky more than a little ashamed to have been so thoroughly ignoring the beauty of that song and the one who was singing it. Out of curiosity Cunning Lily glanced around to see who it was, but could find no one in her immediate eye sight and so walked toward where she had last heard the sound.
When the song stopped, Cunning Lily faltered. She knew she had to be close, but wasn't sure where exactly this other kimeti was. The song was what she had been following and with it gone, she no longer had a lead to take her to the other one. Slightly unsure of herself but not wanting to turn back, she raised her own voice in song. It felt a pale mimic of the other song, but she tried her best and stopped after just a few short measures. Her head tilted as she waited to see if the other might catch on and sing back. Perhaps in this way she would be able to locate the other one and ask them what made them sing the way they did.

A few moments after Grace decided to quit singing, just in case the kimeti in the area wanted peace, she heard a few notes sung back to her. Realizing, after a few moments, that they were trying to find her through her singing, she let out a few more graceful notes that caught on the wind. Right after she'd done it, she glided a few steps and then wondered if it was actually a kimeti that wanted her attention. Sometimes alligators or other dangerous animals would adorn kimeti scent and try to lure kimeti into their waiting jaws. Hoping that wasn't the case, Grace stood still, waiting to see movement somewhere.

In the short time it took Water's Grace to catch on and sing a few more measures, Cunning Lily had grown unsure of herself and had begun to retreat back to where she had started out at. Perhaps she had been wrong in assuming there was another doe out there. No sooner had she given up, however, than the song began again. Not wanting to lose the trace this time, Cunning Lily quickly followed after it. Though the song was short the second time, she was fairly certain she could locate the other doe. Wanting to let them know that she was, in fact, a Kimeti herself she gave another pale mimic of the song even though she felt bad for destroying it with her voice. Maybe the other doe wouldn't find her voice as appalling as she did.
Cunning Lily soon came through the brush near the other doe and smiled with relief at the fact she was not only not just hearing things, but that there were no predators lying in wait for her. Suddenly feeling awkward for interrupting, she cleared her throat as she approached, "H-hello...Was that you...singing?"

Grace smiled as the doe peeked through the swamp at her, finally revealing herself after giving off a note or two of the song she herself was singing. There was potential in that voice, but her fear of being judged tainted it. If Grace became friends with this doe, she'd learn to give her more confidence. Upon hearing her question, all she did was slowly nod her head once. Words weren't always needed, she always thought, and sometimes something other than that conveys what you want to say better.

It took Cunning Lily by mild surprise that the other doe spoke no words and with the quiet of the air around her, the young doe realized that perhaps words were not necessary. They seemed to break the magical air of the swamp, and suddenly abashed for having though to disturb that quiet she ducked her head down a little in silent apology. Although she was not a doe who tried hard to make friends, she approached slowly, watching the other carefully and not wanting to further dampen the air with her voice. Once she was just a couple Kimeti lengths away, she sat down quietly on the ground, and tilted her head this way and that as she listened to the music of the swamp.
Slowly Cunning Lily's eyes closed as she listened, paying attention to the subtle sounds of the water, the breeze through the brush, and the noises the nocturnal insects and animals made. Even the breathing of the two does was something she paid attention to. Without meaning for it to happen, her head bobbed lazily to a beat that didn't really exist. It was a song that was growing in her mind and she cautiously opened her eyes to see if the other kimeti might hear it as well.
There were many questions the brightly colored doe wanted to ask, but none of them that she would until the other broke the silence first. If she chose to.

Grace closed her eyes and took a deep intake of breathe before speaking. A few notes from in between the trees, kind of far off in the swamp, other kimeti singing could be heard. A slight smile played across Grace's face before looking to the doe in front of her. "What is it that you want to ask?" Her ghostly voice seemed to meld with the rhythm of the night. The inquisitive look on the doe's face gave away the fact that she was wondering, wanting to ask something. Waiting for a response, Grace listened more to a splashing in the pond near them.

Cunning Lily's ears twitched in the direction of the sound the voices were coming from as her head bobbed to the beat she felt and a smile of her own formed on her lips, though it was barely visible. It took a couple of seconds for the doe to recognize Grace's words as just that - words, and a question she had to answer. Slowly she opened her eyes and leaned back on her haunches just a little as she debated which question to ask first. Not wanting to seem slow, she muttered in apology, "There are many I want to ask. Its hard to pick just one..."
With a deep breath to steel herself, she started with the first one that had popped into her head to begin with, "What makes you sing so beautifully and in tune with the sound of the swamp?" It was kind of a stupid question, now that she thought about it, and Cunning Lily quickly ducked her head in embarrassment for having asked something so silly. She could only hope the other doe would not laugh at her, as she might have had someone asked that of herself.

Grace smiled, not in jest but in almost something like embarrassment. No one had ever asked her something like that before. After a moment of thought, she responded, "You can ask as many questions as you like. As for your current question, I'll be honest with you. I have no idea. I found out how I sung when I heard other kimeti singing. I sung back and I've kept singing since. I think my old soul is the reason I meld with the swamp. This soul has experienced all this within someone else before. I couldn't give you a sure answer, honestly." Looking through the trees, Grace wasn't sure if the ones singing back to her were kimeti, legendaries, or spirits within the trees. All she knew was that it felt right.

A very small, barely audible sigh escaped from Cunning Lily's lips as she realized Grace was not upset with her question. Feeling a little more emboldened, she listened carefully to the response and mulled over it. Some of what was said made sense, though Cunning Lily was still not sure exactly what Water's Grace meant by the soul having experienced all this within someone else before. She knew that Kimeti did not have just one life - but the vague answer implied they had many, many lives. And that thought both surprised and scared the young doe. What exactly would that mean and how would that impact things? Did people remember what happened from one life to the other, or did everything fade away to instinct as they moved on to each new life?
The doe shook her head lightly to bring herself back to the present and nodded slowly. She understood what Grace was saying, even if the implications of one of the phrases confused her. Not wanting to impose upon the other doe, however, she ducked her head a little, not quite sure if she should ask many questions or if that would be rude. Unsure of this fact, she quietly suggested, "I would feel bad asking all the questions. I know I'm just a young doe, who isn't very interesting, but do you have any questions you want to ask....?" There. That made her feel better about asking lots of questions and so she looked back up to Grace, her eyes hesitant as she waited to see what the response would be.

Grace thought for a moment, mulling the question over in her mind for a few seconds. "I'll probably think of some as time goes along. Do not be afraid to speak, or ask, or inquire, dear. Questions lead to answers and answers lead to knowledge and knowledge is everything." Smiling, she giggled a little at how her little chain worked out.

Grace's charm was hard to resist and even Cunning Lily found herself relaxing and feeling less and less awkward around the doe. A small smile tugged at her lips as she nodded - what was said made sense, once again. And so she steeled herself as she tilted her head to ask curiously, "You sound as if you know through and through that we experience many lives with our souls - do you...remember any of them?"
If she could blush, the doe would be right then for she felt silly for asking such a childish question. Surely does that were all grown up didn't ask such things! But she had, and her eyes glittered as she watched the wiser doe to see what she might say. A whole slew of questions brewed in her mind for either answer she might receive, but mostly for if Grace did, in fact, remember previous lives.

Grace thought for a moment, compiling her answer. Getting her mind together, she said, "I don't think we are supposed to remember the lives themselves, but discover different things about ourselves that might have contributed to the past life. And probably experience a lot of deja vu from a life once lived. So no, I don't remember my past lives, but I remember some things about those lives that I have in common with," After a moment, she giggled and added, "If that makes any sense at all."

The young doe sat on her haunches with her ears perked as she listened to Grace's response. For the most part she nodded and understood wha twas said, though some of it left her a little unsure. How could you remember things about a past life without remembering all of it? But she smiled and nodded to herself even as she asked the question for the answer quickly revealed itself to her.
With a curious tilt of her head she inquired, "So things that are a part of our soul through and through we will remember the feeling of - like your singing or major events of a previous life that left their mark on us deep down?" That would make sense, and definitely explain the sense of deja vu for things not yet lived that was common.
