The Windmaster Cruiser
The Windmaster Cruiser is (for now) a well built, well-rounded vessel that has an adequate speed and has a medium-sized cargo hold, letting the questors carry a decent amount of food on long voyages.

1- Captain/Steerer:
2- Map person:
3- Guard/Workplace health and safety officer: Deidra Mae Mohan
5- Lookout/Mood Perker: K i a
6- Cook/Medic: Astor, Dusty
7- All around smart person: Taka, Caoimhe

The mission:

...well, make it to a jellyfish god thing. Somehow. Who knows the way anyway?

To JOIN
On Deck someone's left a nice shiny luck dip box. It has a sign on it: 'Pick a job whee and good luck!"

Random number from 1-7! :O The number you get is the number your job is. We may end up with two captains or something... but so what? The more the better biggrin

Kia was the first to arrive, her things in the bag that had been slung over her shoulder, the right hat with the big feather perched on her head somehow, and with no understanding of how airships worked... just that they did.

Luckily, Kia thought as she stared at the letter in her hand, she wasn't going to be alone on this great mission to ...to...some Jellyfish god thing somewhere? That was odd but okay...

It didn't explain why there were a bunch of weird things being loaded, like plants, with the food and weaponry but maybe someone else would know what that was about. Kia hadn't even known there WAS a giant Jellyfish god somewhere over Gaia.

She made her way up the plank and onto the shiny deck of the airship. There was a box there with a sign on it: 'Pick a job whee and good luck!".

Kia reached inside, drawing out her job...

Taka sighed, crumpling a letter and tossing it behind his back as he trudged along. Since his recent incident, he'd been hiding away at his mother's. Again. It seemed to be his favorite pasttime.. when he felt like slithering away from the world, there was nothing more comforting than hiding away and watching his old idol. Ah.. Captain Planet. Why couldn't his life be more like his?! He didn't care how old he got, Captain Planet would always be a hero in his eyes..

However, Konaru had a different plan for him. She shoved him out the door with nothing more than a letter and a "THERE'S A WORLD OUT THERE, DID YOU FORGET?!"

Not really peering around, or noticing anyone else, he paused at the "Pick a job whee and good luck!" sign. Sure, why not..?

He grinned a little to himself, much like an overly excited child, as he reached his hand in the box...

The Mood Perker/Lookout was already exploring her duties by the time her wayward ...fiance? Ex-fiance? Something? had showed up and stood up high in the lookout, enjoying the way the air blew.

She glanced down as she stood there, perched dangerously up on the lookout, seeing who it was and narrowing her eyes. Then widening them. Then, again, narrowing them, as she couldn't figure out if she was angry or happy that he just showed up again.

Kia took off her hat and threw it down at him so that it might hopefully hit him in the head.

"All-around smart.. person..?"

Taka, of course, was just sitting there staring at his piece of paper as if he had just received a death note from someone. Or as if it would explode to flames any minute. Now, granted, he was a genius.. but that seemed like a rather odd 'job.' What was he supposed to do, run around explaining to people that they had no brains and he was just a magnificent god-like Einstein in a rockstar body?

Speaking of rockstar...

He glanced towards the ground, a bit saddened suddenly. When was the last time he had an actual.. GIG? Sure, he'd been focused on a lot of things lately that kept him away.. Not that I had a say in any of these things.

He grumbled to himself, and started to take a step forward, when he was smacked in the face by a hat. He blinked cluelessly a few times as the hat and the piece of paper he was holding slipped to the floor.

"What the..?!?"
PostPosted: Wed Oct 06, 2010 7:08 pm

Kia watched him as he seemed to not really ay much attention to the hat. Well... not enough for her. Wasn't it logical to look up and see where a hat came from? She wasn't the smartest cookie in the fridge but she knew that!

She was getting hungry, come to think of it, Kia wondered if they had a cook yet...

She moved to the edge of the lookout and aimed herself, before dropping down too, her wings extending out to soften her landing.

"Did you bring any lunch?"

Taka was becoming increasingly confused. First he was an all-around smart person, then he was attacked by a killer hat.. now his fiancee was standing in front of him. Ex-fiancee. Err.. honestly, he wasn't so sure he knew exactly what they were. She dumped him, he could remember that much. But that time they met, with Ra and Priss.. and then she..

He shook his head, trying to dismiss it. She probably didn't mean anything by it. Maybe she was just trying to make Ra jealous. Maybe she was just joking.. Maybe..

He didn't even really hear a word Kia said as he just stared blankly at her. He couldn't seem to take his eyes off her, almost as if he couldn't believe it was actually her standing in front of him. Not so much the fact that they broke, or had been apart for so long.

She was.. different. She seemed.. he wasn't sure. Older? More.. mature? He couldn't quite tell. But she definitely looked..

"Wow," he whispered under his breath, not even knowingly. The second he realized he'd just said that out loud, albeit very quietly, he winced with regret. Oops.

After all sorts of assorted weirdness with women who were really stars and children with glowing fiery skulls over their heads, Astor was longing for whatever sense of normalcy he could find on Gaia. The jellyfish god had been in the news for some months now, and the journey west was more than a little tempting for a boy who'd grown up sailing the starry ocean.

The airship didn't resemble a starship in any ways that Astor could readily discern as he approached it, but it was still a ship, with cabins and decks and bulkheads - more than enough to satisfy him and remind him of home.

Astor climbed aboard, drew a number from the box, and set about looking for the crew. "Hello?" he called, doing his best to sound confident. The last time he'd been on a ship, he'd been a little kid - but this Astor was a year older and wiser than he'd been then, and he'd done a lot of growing up since his arrival on Gaia. He could be of actual use here. Chess had thought it was a good idea, at least. (That or she just wanted him out of the house.)

He crossed the deck, finally spotting signs of life at the base of the mast. "Hi," he called. "I'm here to join your crew, my name's Astor."

Well, this was awkward. Even in his social ineptness he could tell he'd interrupted something.

Kia had no idea what he meant by wow but it was one of the most unsatisfying things he'd said lately. ...well, it was also one of the most satisfying things, as he'd only said that one world to her in months, but she was too hungry to properly fore-fill her duty of ...mood...something.

"I'm going to look for food."

She took her hat back from him and pushed it back down on her head, before turning and heading down into the airship's cabin. Kia paused a moment to call 'Hi!' before she vanished below deck.

Taka sighed and smacked himself in the forehead. Why? Why did he do things even the most socially-inept people wouldn't do? Why did Kia turn him into a big blob of GOOP? They weren't even together anymore! He needed to get himself together. Getting a determined look on his face and nodding, he decided to remind himself..
What would Captain Planet do?!

He'd get over it, that's what. He peered over to the newcomer and gave him a grin and an almost-over-excited wave. What? It was a person, and it wasn't Kia.. THAT was something to be happy about.

"Welcome to HEL-," he stopped himself with an 'ahem', and tried again. "What's up? What silly job did you get stuck with? I'm Taka!"

Bet it's like.. CLOUD INTERPRETER. Or something ridiculous like mine.

"What about food?"

Dusty was probably a bit young to be a member of a crew on such an important expedition, all things considered - but it wasn't as though he thought that way, of course. He had an itch that couldn't be scratched - for adventure, for glory, for something that wasn't sitting at home and playing his X-Box, and a little matter like age wasn't going to slow him down!

Besides. The food here had to be better than the atrocious sandwiches that C-A made.

So, lowering his bag onto the deck (containing mostly spare underwear and supplies for the care of his sword), the deerkitten fell into line behind Kia. "You're fixing food? I want some!" No please, and likely, there would no thank you later, either - but hey, Dusty was here to work, not just mooch. He didn't have to be polite.

Upon being asked about his job, Astor unfolded the slip of paper he'd very nearly forgotten he was holding. "Uh," he said, reading, "Cook." He blinked blankly at the man identified as Taka. "Does this mean I have to... cook?"

There weren't a whole lot of people less qualified for cooking than Astor. He could boil water, make instant microwave bacon and soup-from-a-can. Mostly when Chess wasn't home he subsisted on things scrounged around the house and cheap junk from the corner store.

"Do they have convenience stores on the frontier?" he asked out loud, and then with his eyes followed the woman and Oh-hey-was-that-Dusty-that-was-Dusty. "Where do you think them all are going?" he asked.

Kia wasn't really all that bothered about no pleases or manners from the kid. It didn't matter much to her, because they were suddenly comrades in the same quest- for food! (And eventually a giant jellyfish but that was not important to her- she wasn't the driver.)

"Food sounds good." She agreed absentmindly as she started to open doors in an attempt to find a kitchen. There wasn't one. Just a communal area for sitting and with crates nearby, some with premade food, most with supplies so that they could camp and eat. Kia somehow located a small crate of cookie packages within a few seconds and threw one packet to the kid next to her.

There was an almost distinct look of disapproval on the youngster's face as she approached the airship. She had found her way here all by herself and she had been determined to continue on this grand adventure right up until the moment that she'd seen the vessel. It wasn't anything like anything she had ever seen before. It wasn't a car or a bike or a wagon. It was a boat. A boat that was going to fly high up in the air and...

She let out a deep heave of a breath as she tried not to think too hard on that. High up in the air could be pretty darn scary, but she'd never ever learn how her wings worked if she couldn't get used to being up high... Right? Right.

Delicate wings gave a little flutter, head tilting just a bit higher as she put her shoulders back, stomping right up onto the ship with great determination.

"Deidra Mae Mohan reporting for duty, sirs."

Clearly this young Fa'e still had quite a bit to learn...

Caoimhe may or may not have followed a trail of food to this ship. Or perhaps it was the promise of a great adventure? Or, even more likely, it might have been based on the presence of Dusty, a person who she thoroughly enjoyed. In any case, the selkie youth was there, stained backpack slung across her shoulders and hair pulled up in a curly ponytail. A limp SlimJim hung from her lips. She chewed on it like a piece of dry wheat as she trekked up the gangway to the deck of the airship.

"Nice digs," she said to the gathered crowd. The words were only slightly muffled by the SlimJim. At the mention of food, Caoimhe produced a handful of the thin, spicy sticks and thrust them outward. "We shall dine like kings and -- oh, hey what's that?"

The selkie became suddenly aware that people were going around learning their jobs from the strange box on the deck. A contest? She was so in. "I WANT TO BE A GUARD," she declared loudly, chest puffed up and shoulders squared.

Unfortunately, it appeared that random chance was supposed to be the way for this journey. With a heaving sigh, Caoi jutted her hand into the shiny box and came back with a number. She pulled out the paper, excitement in her eyes -- and it promptly flattened to disappointment. "All around smart person?" She stared at the paper for a moment and then threw it over her shoulder.

"Mine sucks, can I go again?"
