It's crawling closer. Closer. And Closer. It stops and looks at its prey, a small teenager no taller than four feet. It then jumped for the attack. "Gotcha!" it yelled.
Coff looked back behind her with an uninterested look on her face. She smacked the bug mask off of Adren face.
"Uhhh.." Adren groaned.
Coff smirked. "Pretty good try if you wanna scare babies."
Adren muttered something underneath his breath, but Coff ignored it and walked towards a booth.
Star, Vane, and Miso walked towards Adren. Star was carrying a gigantic stuffed elephant tiger bear, Vane was holding a bag with a bronzefish swimming in it, and Miso was carrying a bucket of Fire Nachos.
"Man!!" Star cried out. "This festival is soo much fun!" Star squeezed her stuffed bear. "Especially since Miso won this for me."
Miso smiled, and saw Adren acting in love.
"Well, I wasn't gonna use it!" Miso yelled.
"Oh really?" Adren smirked. "Afraid to burn it up?"
Vane stepped in between. "Enough. You know how much I hate fighting."
Miso and Adren rolled their eyes.
Vane continued. "Now, this festival won't be back until next year. So let's enjoy it!"
Star looked around. "What holiday is this festival for again?"
"Humph." Coff muttered. "Day of the Scare, or known as Halloween in some places, is what this festival is celebrating. A bunch of hoo-ha if you ask me."
Adren looked suspiciously at Coff. "A non-believer, are you? Those are the ones who usually get into trouble on this day!"
Coff glared at Adren. "I can't believe we stopped our journey for this festival. It's only a way to market in profit. What terrible, horrifying thing can happen today?" Coff lifted her hands up as to act like a ghost.
"Okay, enough talk!" Star exclaimed. "It's getting dark, let's go see that firebending show everyone is talking about!"
The team left north towards the stage for the show, unknowingly leaving behind a member.
On top of a dark, shady hill Darth smiled to himself. He was with a few of his spiritual warriors, following and spying on the team.
"Look at them, having so much fun." Darth remarked. He then turned his head and saw one of his soldiers eating fire nachos.
"Hey!" Darth yelled, flabbergasted. "We're here to do work, not eat!"
The warrior threw the bucket away. "Sir! Yes, Sir! But, what should we do about....her?"
The warrior pointed at a teenage girl, wrapped up in a strong cloth, tied down on the hands and feet. On her mouth was another smaller piece of cloth, tied down to keep her from squirming.
Darth laughed. "That, will be our bait. Isn't that right, Sky the Earthbender?"
Sky was shaking nervously, squirming to get out.
"Guess they forgot about you." Darth said evilly. "Now, let's have some fun tonight."
Fire shot out of the sleeves, and formed into a whip. The firebender then grabbed the tail, and created a mirage of a dragon. The dragon growled and whispered to the audience..
"Beee Good Tonightt.... Or Regret It....MUAHAHA!!!"
The crowd roared and cheered. The firebender bowed and ended his show.
"Wow!" Star exclaimed, now holding onto Bibbles inside the stuffed bear, "That was amazing!"
"Yeah.." Vane commented. "Wasn't it, Adren?"
Adren, looking aghasted, gulped. "Um.. sure...um.. Let's go." Adren dragged the sleeves of Miso and Coff.
"Hey!"
"Ow, let go, Adren!"
Coff and Miso pulled away from Adren's grasp.
"Oh, I get it now..." Coff smirked. "Terrifed of the dragon?"
Miso laughed uncontrollably. "Dude, Adren. That was nothing but a mirage. Don't be scared."
Bibbles jumped out of Star's grasp and bit Adren.
"Oh, great..." Adren muttered. "Fine! All of you, non-believers of the curse, prepare to meet your DOOM tonight!"
Vane rolled her eyes. "Okay, well, we need to go now. Back to camp."
Star giggled. "Wow, I haven't had this much fun for years!"
Everyone else looked stared at Star nonchalantly.
"What?" Star asked.
The team walked tiredly, but happy, back into the woods where the camp was set up.
"Man... it's kind of.. dark." Adren shivered.
Miso snapped and lit up a flame.
"Thanks..." Vane muttered, searching for the camp. "Eh? Wasn't it this way?"
Star widened her eyes. "No.. You didn't lose the direction, right?"
A nearby crow called out, as the trees whispered in the wind.
"What? I couldn't have..." Vane muttered.
"Hey guys.." Coff whispered. "Another problem. Where's Sky?"
Everyone looked around.
"Wait wait wait.. Wasn't Sky with us when we met up again to go to the firebending show?" Star questioned.
"Now that I think about it, Sky didn't show!" Adren added.
"Great." Miso stammered. "We're lost, and we forgot Sky too."
There was a moment of silence before Adren spoke. "I knew it! It's all your fault! The curse must be on us!"
Coff whacked Adren over the head. "Don't spurt nonsense. Vane?"
Vane thought for a bit. "I got it!" she exclaimed.
Vane turned to Miso. "Shine your fire over here next to my plastic bag with my bronzefish. Coff! I need your mirror."
Coff searched her pockets for a tiny mirror and handed it to Vane. "What are you gonna do?"
Vane hushed her. "Watch. By positioning at a right angle, we can get a beam of light to shoot from miso's flame and into the plastic bag."
Vane demonstrates her idea, and the light shot towards the bag. "Now, the bag will distort the rays of the light, causing the beam to bounce everywhere in the bag. Now, back in the village grandmother taught me of the special power of the bronzefish."
Coff gasped. "I remember! If you shine light on a bronzefish..."
".. the bronzefish can light up brilliantly all around!" Vane ended.
Star, Adren, and Miso gasped as the forest illuminated with the naturally produced light.
"Yay! Now we can actually find the camp!" Adren exclaimed.
Suddenly Darth and his warriors emerged from a nearby bush. "You know, that was a brilliant idea!" Darth mocked sarcastically. In his hand was Sky.
"SKY!" everyone exclaimed.
"What do you want?" Adren growled. "You know, there is something fishy about you and the bushes.. why? Can't you just walk casually up to us?"
"Adren!" Star whispered. "Not now."
Vane spoke sternly to Darth. "Let her go!"
Darth smiled. "What, no thank you for bringing you your friend?"
"THANK YOU?" Coff yelled. "She's all tied up! Let her go!" Coff stepped forward.
"Nuh, uh." Darth said swiftly. He held up his glider blade towards Sky's face. "Not a step closer."
"Darth!" Miso yelled, enraged. "Don't act this way.. Let her go!"
"Hm..." Darth expressed. "I'll take the Avatar in exchange."
Adren blocked Star. "No way! Besides, how dare you pull such a trick on the Day of the Scare? There are consequences!"
Coff facepalmed. "Oh..mai...goodness.."
Star stepped forward and handed Vane Bibbles. "It is an exchange I will take."
Vane yelled out. "No! Star! Ugh.. get back!"
Star shook her head. "I have already failed my duties to this world. I can't fail to a friend!"
Miso stepped in front of Star. "Don't you get it? They only want you to worsen the world! You can't do this!"
Star growled. "You guys have any better way? What about Sky, Miso? Your own half-sister!"
Miso looked down and back at Darth. He then walked back to the team.
Darth smiled evilly. "Come on. My word is final and true."
As Star walked towards Darth, the forest suddenly glowed and fell dark. Even the light from the bronzefish dimmed.
"What the.." Adren muttered.
The winds roared and the trees moaned a sad tune. Out of nowhere, the outline of a ghoul and a dragon appeared in front of Darth. "What is this??" Darth yelled, but silenced by the wind.
The crew watched as the dragon circled Darth and the warriors. Suddenly all fell silent and the team collapsed onto the ground.
"Wake up! Helloo!" cried out a voice.
Star opened her eyes to the light from the sun. "Sky!" Star exclaimed. She hugged Sky tightly.
"Whoa, Star!" Sky cried out. She then smiled and hugged Star back.
The rest of the team began to wake up.
"What.." Vane asked, rubbing her eyes. "Where are we?"
Coff yawned and looked around. "Our... camp!"
"Eh??" Adren cried out... "Then... ah... urm.. Sky!"
Adren ran over, and the rest of the team ran to greet Sky.
Miso hugged Sky. "We're sorry."
Sky hugged back. "For what?"
Everyone looked at each other in confusion. How did they, lost in the forest, managed to get back in camp safely with Sky?
"I tell you..." Adren started. "The dragon helped us! It was the curse!"
"What?" Coff groaned. "Not this again.. You were dreaming. What dragon?"
"You didn't see the dragon?" Adren questioned
"Nope."
"Nuh-Uh"
"What?"
"Hmm?"
"Meow~"
Everyone laughed.
"Well, we better start our training and journey again." Vane exclaimed.
The crew began to pack and head out when something caught Adren's eye.
Adren ran towards the shiny, glistering object. It was Darth's glider blade, laying cold on the forest ground.
