Forte had gone through some hard times. So hard that she hasn't seen her daughter in a long time. And those days of darkness had been broken into by a light. A stallion that, Forte had never thought she'd meet just burst into her life and changed it. Was it love? Who knew... But she was happy, and she wanted to see him again, and her wish had come true.
Orrin was taking her on a date. The first date she's been on since her first mate. She felt like a young mare again, being nervous, and anxious.

Orrin trotted eagerly along, his mind focused on that one thing that had stolen his heart so recently: the beautiful black mare named Forte. He had been searching for love for so long... well, not really searching, more of an awkward thought here and there. But when he had seen her, everything had fallen into place, and life had made sense for once. He knew his purpose--to hold and protect her, always.
He grumbled as a small flower dropped from the bundle in his mouth. It was a bouquet meant for their very first date--and he needed it to be perfect! He only hoped she wouldn't think him silly for bringing so many flowers.
He saw her then, standing not too far away at the edge of a bright patch of woods, and he started towards her, his eyes wide and smile silly around the bundle of flowers.
He laid the bouquet at her feet, grinning, and looked into her eyes. "I hope you like them... they're blue. Like your eyes!"

Forte looked over at the stallion and it was a pleasant surprise. She smiled at him and nodded. "They are very lovely." She picked the flowers up, and she placed them at the teepee, with the stems resting in water. She was already thrilled with the way this date was starting. After making sure the flowers were taken care of she walked over to Orrin, and she gave him a gentle hello nuzzle.
"What do you have planned for us today?" her ears flicked as she watched him.

Orrin grinned goofily, not being able to contain his giddiness. It felt as if his excitement would just overflow! He was so happy that she had liked his gift, and was now itching to reveal his whole plan for the date, but knew that he had to keep some things a surprise.
He walked up to her, nudging her shoulder. "We're going on a walk in the woods! Well, and more than just a walk. But you'll see once we get there!" He giggled, then motioned for her to follow him. "This way, my lady!"

Taking another glance over at the flowers she happily followed Orrin down the path, that lead to the woods. Her excitement was growing with each step she took with him. She walked even with his shoulder, and she lipped at his mane lightly.
"I've been looking forward to today." She smiled over at him. No matter what happened she wouldn't feel let down. Having spent time with him, she was feeling happier and happier.

Orrin grinned as he led her along."You know, I've been looking forward to today too. But of course, any day I spend with you is a day worth dreaming of. You're like my angel, Forte." His cheeks automatically blushed, and he looked down, trying to seem more manly than his little form really was. However, her sweet eyes drew his back, and he was soon leading her along again.
"It's only a little farther, just wait!" he exclaimed, trotting ahead excitedly. Around a bend in the small path, a small patch of a meadow could be seen, lined by tall hardwood oaks and maples, birches and walnuts. A small stream flowed off on one side, smooth rocks lining its banks and ferns growing here and there in a random pattern. He could almost see the beautiful flowers that bloomed bright yellow in the afternoon sun! He hoped it would be a nice surprise for Forte, for she seemed like she could use it.

Forte watched him and then took in a questioning look when he got excited and trotted a few steps ahead. This must be the place. She made her way over and she was take aback by the place. It was so calming and peaceful... She smiled over at him and walked forward, it was like a private piece of paradise.
"This is so lovely Orrin." She smiled at him, her tail flicking.

Orrin blushed at her compliment, and not able to hold back, he reached forward and nuzzled her cheek affectionately. He then pulled back, slightly embarrassed, as if it were the first time he had met her! And then he walked over to a rather smooth patch of grass, where a rather large leaf sat as if covering something. He flipped it away with his hoof, revealing four round and ripe red apples, their skin glistening in the sun.
"But that's not it! This is for you, too!" he exclaimed happily, motioning to the apples. He had heard his Indian friend talk about how humans shared important moments with eachother by dining outside, in a simple yet beautiful setting. They called it... picnicking? He hoped it worked for horses too.
"You can have whatever you like, Forte. They've just ripened. I'm told that they're very tasty!"

She giggled at him when he nuzzled her, and she watched as he walked out and turned over the leaf. He had found four ripened apples. That was quite the feat these days. There had been a sudden demand in them with a bad winter coming. She joined him in the small patch. "You're to kind.." She smiled at him.
It was nice, eating together in this nice place. She was happy with all the thought he had put into it. She leaned down and she took a bite of one of the apples. And it was simply perfect, it was just sweet enough... She swallowed and looked over at him. "Have one?"

"I can't be too kind for you, Forte." He grinned and sidled closer to the small pile of apples, bending his neck to sniff at them. Oh yes, they were quite delicious looking! His friend Liella had been gracious enough to help him retrieve them from a tree, otherwise he'd have to of settled for berries.
He watched as Forte took a bite, his heart warming at the content look on her face. His only wish was to make her happy, to make her happy with him... and he didn't want the moment to end. He hoped that perhaps, one day, he would be able to rid all of the sadness from her life.
He took a bite out of another apple, chewing leisurely and gasping at the sweet taste. "If only we could have these everyday, then our life would be complete. But I guess apples aren't exactly the easiest thing for our kind to pick, haha." Oh well. He'd rather be short and with Forte than be tall and have a million apples!
"You know, Forte... you look really beautiful today."

Forte smiled at him. "Well, we're both lucky to know taller horses to help us." She hooved the ground a little, before she kept eating. She knew exactly how the stallion felt. She liked being with him. And she was about to fall into deep thought.
"O-oh..." She blushed at him, not that he could actually see it. "Orrin... Thank you." She took a step toward him and she gave him a gentle nuzzle.
