Tulia really thought she was the very most brilliant lioness ever to walk the savanna. Well, that might be pushing it, really, but she was feeling quite proud of herself. She'd been wandering along the stream much like she had the day before when she found a nice little sunny patch that was so warm and toasty that she had to take a little snooze.
And then the flies came.
Flies were really annoying creatures. They enjoyed harassing everyone, buzzing about their eyes and ears relentlessly. Tickling where they landed, always moving and scooting around. Whenever Tulia would shift, the flies would rearrange themselves and it was really quite unpleasant.
Tulia had trapped one under her paws.
"Ho ho ho," Tulia whispered to herself. Her paws formed a dome on the ground. "Today is your unluckiest day, Fly! With my swift reflexes and extraordinary hearing, I have captured you!"

Yejide was padding up along the stream just simply enjoying the lovely little trickling sounds that the water made here and there. It wasn't that she thought the area was abandoned or that she was the only creature out and about on the savanna but she didn't really expect to see someone else when her paws had led her to someone within her path. She padded forward a bit closer and then sat tilting her head to her side as the other talked to a fly she caught.
The young lioness held back a small giggle as her tail flicked a bit before she spoke up to the other, "Gonna eat it?" it wasn't meant as a tease or an insult but merely a question of curiosity. What would one do with an unlucky 'foe' that size? Other than squash it once and for all and then forget about it.
"I don't think they taste very good~," she added with a small giggle. She hadn't known that the other female was blind otherwise she might have been much more careful about her approach or at least not speak up so suddenly.

Tulia had been so intent on her prey that she'd never even heard the stranger approach. The sound of a strange voice startled Tulia. Her head snapped 'round, ears perked and eyes looking at nothing in particular, really. She just looked towards the direction that the voice came from. Nostrils flared as she tried to catch a whiff of the newcomer; obviously a female by her voice. A lioness?
"I caught it," Tulia boasted, "by myself." She figured that was important to add.
"I don't think they're very tasty, either. Have you eaten a fly before?"

The lioness canted her head to the side as she watched. There was something off about this that she couldn't quite get her paw on but she didn't feel that she should come right out and ask the question that was right on the tip of her tongue, it seemed rude and insulting to just ask if the other was at some sort of detriment. Though by the way she talked and boasted the Yejide giggled a bit and nodded an unseen nod, "Congratulations!" she said in a heartfelt tone.
She shook her head a bit, "Not yet anyways," Yejide chuckled in amusement. "It just seems like it'd be a little...disgusting and un-filling," she pointed out with a small nod. One would have to eat a lot of flies to get their fill!

"Thank you!" Tulia grinned towards the other lioness before lifting her paw and letting the fly buzz away. She rose to her feet, shaking the dust from her fur before rocking back into a seated positions, tail wrapped comfortably around her front paws. "I'm Tulia," she trilled, nothing but friendly.
"And I have to agree. Flies don't seem like they'd make a good meal. They're just so annoying when you're trying to take a nap in the sunshine!" Tulia lifted her face towards the sun, obviously enjoying the heat. "I have to say, though, I was pretty proud of my catch. That was the first time I'd ever caught a fly! I can't wait to tell my sister. She'll think I'm silly, of course." She chuckled sheepishly, "She usually does."
Tulia knew she should say something about her blindness; often she wondered if it was obvious that something was off about her, or if strangers just thought she odd. Shrugging inwardly, she merely said rather bluntly, "I'm blind." There. Done and done!

"Welcome~," she replied cheerfully as she watched the other move about to move into a seated position. "Oh! I'm Yejide. You have a very lovely name Tulia," she complimented happily. She really did like the name it was as pleasant to say as it was to hear. She remained seated it really nice, warm, and comfortable here.
Again another unseen nod of agreement before she spoke out loud, "Yes, I agree. They are horrid little things~. I'd think they do it on purpose sometimes," Yejide sighed. She listened as Tulia continued to talk and mention a sister. She seemed thoughtful for a long moment before she replied, "She might think it's silly but she'll hopefully be proud of you too."
Yejide blinked at the bluntness at which the other female told of her condition. What should she say about it? Apologizing and giving pity seemed useless, "Ahhh, I was going to ask because I wondered when you didn't look directly at me," the young lioness admitted bashfully.

"My sister and I are twins," Tulia rambled as she usually did when she was comfortable enough to do so. "Her name is Sebae. Our names don't really mean anything. Yejide is a lovely name! Does it have a meaning?"
On the topic of her sister, Tulia had much to say. "Sebae treats me like an annoying little child more often than not. I know she loves me though, and since she's older than I, she feels obligated to watch over me. She always has," Tulia paused and grinned towards Yejide, "I let her fuss over me since it seems to make her happy."
She had to laugh at the bashful tone that Yejide's voice carried. "I'm not completely blind. I see vague shadows. It gets worse each day." Tulia shrugged. "I'll be completely blind soon enough, I'd guess. I think that's another reason why Sebae fusses over me."

She didn't seem to mind as she listened to Tulia continue on about herself and her sister. The young lioness beamed happily when her name was complimented, "Thank you~. It does have a meaning, but names don't have to have a meaning to be wonderful," she said simply with a shrug. "I forget what mine means I think it has something to do with a Mother," Yejide laughed and shrugged. "I'll tell you when I remember," she promised Tulia.
Yejide laughed softly, "Ah well, at least you have someone there for you when you need them and you know that she loves you. It must be wonderful to have someone love you and fuss over you from time to time," she chattered back happily.
She tilted her head a little and nodded, "Ah I see. I ... I admit that you have a great deal of strength to just seem to accept it as it is. I don't think I would be able to if I were in your place, Tulia. I admire that," Yejide said in a heartfelt tone.

If there was one thing that could be said with utmost certainty about Tulia, it was her love of speech. Tulia could talk about anything for hours on end. "You wouldn't believe me if I told you how many others have said that I take my blindness well, or with strength." She giggled softly, a shoulder lifting in a shrug. "I've forgotten what many things look like, I've forgotten many colors. But there is so much that I can recall, not sights, but sounds, smells, tastes." Tulia grinned.
"Sebae is a wonderful lioness. I imagine she would be furious to see me talking with a stranger, but she always is furious about something." Tulia laughed affectionately, feeling quite chatty and comfortable with the lioness.
"Do you have a pride, Yejide?"

Yejide nodded a bit laughing sheepishly as she did so, "I didn't think I'd be the first to say such things but I mean it. I suppose if it happened gradually as yours seems to be happening...I could adapt but beyond that I am uncertain. You have my respect either way," she chattered back happily. She was obviously glad for the company.
"Ahh, I do not wish you to be in trouble with your sister," the lioness replied, "but the truth remains that you are here and she is not, so I suppose she can be furious all she likes." Yejide certainly had a slight cheeky side to her when offering advice about angry siblings. Not that she had much experience with such things.
She blinked and tilted her head, "No I do not have a pride. At least not yet," Yejide added the last bit to show that she was open to joining a pride if it felt suitable for her.

Tulia laughed. She liked Yejide! It was refreshing to be around a lioness that spoke her mind, yet did it in a way that was not offensive at all. "Don't let Sebae hear you say such a thing! Why, we would never hear the end of it, believe me." Grinning in Yejide's direction, Tulia gestured towards the direction of the pride. She knew it was in this particular direction because of a small stream that trickled happily nearby.
"My pride is the Ongozana'Ke. It is predominantly female; we are like a band of sisters who allow a few worthy males to live amongst us. You should come and visit for a bit. I'd very much love to introduce you to my sister; she is not so bad, I promise!"

Yejide laughed softly, "It shall remain between us," she promised in a sing-song sort of tone with a flick of her tail toward the end. She gazed toward the direction that the head tilted in and she tilted her own head but toward the side in curiosity as she listened. That sounded rather pleasant to her though she wasn't certain whether or not that'd be for her or not, still, she wasn't one to deny at least a visit to see how it fit her if at all.
"I think I'd like that. Even if just to meet this sister of yours to see what she is like in person," she chattered happily. Yejide was fairly certain that there was probably some preparation that needed to be made instead of just strolling in on a whim so she would sit back and wait for Tulia to say when it'd be alright before insisting to barge in on any particular day. It wasn't like the rogue lioness had some sort of daily routine that she upheld other than to hunt (when needed), drink, and sleep.
