Ok, so today I went to band (of course) and I told my friend to hold my clarinet while I tie my shoe. Anyways I gave her the clarinet to hold ( as I had already put it toghether, dont ask me why.), and she started playing (well trying to, she plays trombone) After I was done, we walked together to band. When we got there to practice, I noticed something funny about my keys, but I paid it no attention, I started warm ups, then played a few notes, IT WOULD NOT PLAY AT ALL!!! Ugh, Im so annoyed right now... I wonder how much It would cost for a repair, and I havent told my mom. Eeek!

The cost of repairs would depend on what, exactly, the problem is. I might try showing the problem to your band director and seeing what s/he has to say about it -- if it's just some screws that were tightened too much or something, they should be able to fix it in the band room. If it's something else, your director may have a suggestion of the best place to take it to fix it.

And this is why I don't let anyone touch my clarinet.. even I handle it like a newborn baby. It's too expensive to take any risks! sweatdrop
But anyway, you might just have a bent key or a screw loose/too tight or something. It might be an easy fix!
Or maybe it's your reed?

one time in football season i accidentally dropped my clarinet between the stands, and my mouth piece broke. i told my band teacher about it. she didn't chew me out a whole lot. i think it was because i had to clean off all the dirt off my clarinet, lyre, and flip folder. then i told my parents that we had to replace my mouth piece. if it was the school's instead of my own, i probably would have been in more trouble with the teacher. i didn't get into a whole of trouble by my parents either.

I would rather put my clarinet on the ground than have someone else (besides a fellow clarinet/trusted friend) hold it for me.
Anyway, you've got some good stuff here. Take it to your director and he might have an idea. This has happened to me, and I can think of a couple things:
The embouchre got messed up because brass players don't have the same embouchre...obviously. The A key might be too tight/loose. That was the reason for my clarinet's malfunction. I took it to the local repair shop and they adjusted the screw for free. The register key might not be working right. Too tight, loose. Or the pad. Speaking of which... Find out if there are any sticky or loose pads. Arbitrary and violent pressing of the keys can result in this. Also check the screws.
Oh yeah, and tell your mom. It wasn't your fault. She might yell, but just remember to tell her that accidents happen. It can be fixed and it's not the end of the world.
I HAVE HOPE IN YOU AND YOUR CLARINET! eek

RULE OF THUMB First off don't hand a brass player a woodwind EVER. Only exception is if they have a reputation of not destroying instruments foreign to them.
Not even I trust anyone to hold on to my two saxophones. Last time I handed another saxophonist the schools Bari Sax I was using. The guy let it drop on the floor and the top of the bell caved in. Luckily it wasn't my Bari or he would have been running laps until the football team won a game.
Also just tell you mom what happened calmly and don't let the trombonist hold your clarinet again...

I've been in 4 different bands, never has any brass who have been told to hold a woodwind even scratched it. Also I play baritone, and we baritones are a gentle kind for the most part. We don't murder instruments, we murder people!!! xd
