Dark ears twitched, back and forth, back and forth. Pale eyes roamed the shadowy landscape of dusk. This was her favourite time, when the sun's heat had cooled but the earth still held that low banked warmth. The chill of night ruffled through her coat and made her shiver, but it was a delicious, pleased motion.

Lifting her head she listened to the coming night. All the daytime animals were settling down to sleep, curling up in burrows, in nests, under rocks, up trees... and the night time shift was just waking, bats twittered close by and the low quiet rustles of things used to the dark was slowly growing louder. Taking a deep breath, mouth open and nose wrinkled, she scented the air for more specific things, prey.. There was a herd of gazelle close by, not her favourite prey, but enough to fill her hungry belly for a while.

Turning downwind, she began to move, her pace a steady lope as she closed the distance between her and dinner, letting their scent guide her on her way.

Oh s**t, oh s**t, oh s**t.

it was starting to get dark and she didn't know where she was! All she had wanted was to find a lovely gem or something nice to bring back to her king so he knew she appreciated being able to work as his attendant. Going out into the rogue lands shouldn't have been so difficult! Not when she was such a smart, capable lioness. It was her brother who was the one meant to have these problems, not her! Unfortunately, her brother was not around to blame for this. It had been her choice to venture away from the pride on her own.

Now she was going to have to find her way back on her own, too. Sighing heavily, she continued to move, unaware that she had walked right into an area with roaming gazelle. Once she got too close, they took off from her, startling the female and making her jump back in surprise. Now where had THEY come from?

Sighing softly, she tried to relax, glad she hadn't been looking for food: she had just scared it off, removing any chance of her catching it anyway.

And there they went.... Pausing mid-stride she gave the rapidly departing cloud of meals a puzzled look. She knew it wasn't her that had spooked them... but a closer inspection of the coming gloom gave her the answer. Another lioness, and a rather lost looking on at that. Giving a grumbling growl of a sigh she altered direction, as there was no reason to take the long route now, and headed directly over to the stranger.

"Yo!" She called out as she drew closer, slowing down from the ground-eating trot to a long-strided walk. Pale eyes roamed the lioness. Nope, not one she knew, not that she knew that many.. rogues didn't tend to socialise much and she was a hardened traveler, on a personal mission though she certainly wasn't one to offer such information easily.

"Can I help you?" Her brisk voice was pleasant, though carried that no-nonsense attitude most lions had to adopt in the roguelands. Softness didn't last long out here without help and Kyoko had been alone as long as she could remember. Part of the reason for her quest...

Oh great, just what she needed: some kind of rogue bandit come to do her harm! Watching the other female carefully, Fetina tensed, trying not to look as completely horrified as she suddenly felt. Still, with her ears flat and her tail wrapped around her back leg, she doubted she was doing a very good job of that.

"U-um, no! I don't think so!" she replied awkwardly, "and... if you're going to try and kill me, know that I'm the attendant to a very powerful king who will know I'm gone and send armies to find me! A... and you can't hold me hostage, either!"

Yeah.

She was sure that would do the trick. Still tense, her body low to the ground, she stared at the female, hoping her words had some kind of effect. It seemed obvious to her that this stranger was going to cause her harm. Didn't all rogue lions hate lions from prides?

Both brows raised at the slightly.. well.. cringing posture the other lioness had adopted. Surely it wasn't Kyoko herself who had merited such a reaction? She was a well built lioness she knew, but not especially big or scary looking.. at least, she hadn't thought so.

A vaguely puzzled look crossed the dark female's expression along with the rather amused smile. The stranger's reply settled some of her puzzlement and only made her grin wider, a small, devilish corner of her mind poking her to have a little fun, but she wasn't a cub any more.. she could be nice. Most of the time...

Though.. she could still have a little fun.. right?

"Why would I kill you? You hardly look very tasty.. and besides.. pride meat is tough." Grinning she knew she shouldn't tease this one so, but it was hard to resist. Though, seriously, where did this stranger get such weird ideas? Did all rogues have such a bad reputation among the prides? All the rogues.. well ok, most of the rogues she had met were just regular lions, either having fallen on hard times or had chosen to go it alone for what ever reason. The most trouble she had run into had actually been from pridal lions.. especially the males who either wanted to catch her, or drive her away from whatever it was they thought they were protecting.

Giving a faint shrug at her inner thoughts she turned her attention back on the slinking lioness.

"Hostage? Are you really worth that much?" Not that she would ever really consider it.. but this female made it just so very easy to tease her. Kyoko was no saint and she had just lost her meal, consider it a little pay back.

Fetina relaxed only slightly when she said that she wasn’t going to eat her. At least that meant she wasn’t going to end up in some random rogue lion’s belly. There had to be something she could do to get out of this mess. Something that wouldn’t get her in trouble with her king, or killed in the process. It seemed like she was going to have a lot of thinking to do. Sadly… there wasn’t a lot of time to think with so much chaos going on in her mind. The only persistent thought was that she was going to die.

And soon.

“No!” She said quickly, “I’m not worth anything! I’m… I’m just a… look, I’ll do whatever you want within reason if you just let me go, okay? I don’t want to fight and I don’t want to get my pride in trouble… if they have to come fetch me, it’ll be an irritation to them, but they’d still do it. They’re big on protecting their own.” True enough, but she wondered who they would send for someone like her. Personally, she was hoping for Fara.

That lion knew how to fight. Plus, he was a massive monster of a lion who could easily beat a female.

She sat up slowly, though she didn’t seem any less tense.

“You’re… you’re not going to do anything to me, are you? I mean, you seem like a nice enough lion… an agreeable sort.” She was willing to say anything to get her a** out of trouble. Luckily, it didn’t seem like she was doing a lot of lying this time around. This creature didn’t seem completely evil.

Pale eyes watched the other feline, noting when she relaxed and then suddenly tensed up again for apparently.. no good reason. She sure was a skittish sort, and who knows what kind of weird ideas she had about Kyoko herself.. a cannibalistic shamanist with a penchant for beating up on weaker lions maybe?

Why was this one out of her pride area anyhow? She certainly didn't seem too adept at survival, judging by her rapidly confused story and pleading words, first she warned Kyoko she was important, then denied it.. Not to mention jumping to some completely bizarre conclusions. Someone needed to show her the truth, but Kyoko wasn't entirely sure she had the patience for it.

"What ever I want?" What could she do? It was fairly clear she was no huntress, nor a tracker, Kyoko was likely to just get more frustrated trying to 'earn' anything back for her lost meal... Kind of lost for any decent bargain that she could extract aside form amusement, she shrugged faintly. "Nah, for one, I don't eat other lions, and two, it seems like way too much hassle. I'm out here to feed myself, not attack a pride I don't even know about or kidnap one of its members."

With perhaps the dumbest sort of fearful expression on her face, Fetina continued to watch her rival, aware now that she had, indeed, inherited some fail from her father. How could she not? Somehow, she had fooled herself into thinking that she had been the least flawed of her family. The most normal. Now, however, she knew she was just as bad as the others- always getting into messes she couldn’t get herself out of later on. Then again, maybe being flawed wasn’t a bad thing. She had loved her father very much, even with his general uneasiness towards doing things the right way. That minor set-back of losing her aside, he’d always been kind and gentle. Once day, when she found him again, she would have to thank him for always being so adorable.

And then head butt him hard for passing on his fail genes to her.

When the female spoke again, Fetina’s thoughts faded. “You… you’re not going to do anything? Well then why were you leading me on?! I thought I was in some kind of trouble of here!” Like it was really the other lioness’ fault.

Sighing heavily, she let her ears flatten against her head, her look of stupid fear quickly morphing into one of vexation. “Oh well. I guess it’s all for the better, isn’t it? Since you’re not a threat, or you say you’re not, what’s your name?”

She would get to the bottom of this. Whether or not this female could really be trusted. For all she knew, this was just another trap waiting to happen.

Kyoko fought the urge to sigh heavily and roll her eyes. Goodness.. this female was even more hard work than most pride males she had met. At least they usually only had one thought on their mind and they were easy to read.. this one was so confusing Kyoko doubted she even knew herself. Why was she out here anyway? She certainly wasn't cut out for roaming.

Silently preaching patience in her head, she leveled a look at the strange pride lioness and finally allowed herself a sigh. "No. And I wasn't leading you anywhere, you did that all on your own." Pushing away the urge to say something less than mature she arched a brow at the stranger. "Kyoko. And you?" Not that it really mattered, but it was always nice to have a name to put to a face.

Flicking an ear lazily she let her gaze drift away from the female in front of her and glanced across the savannah. She really needed to catch up with dinner soon or the night would be over and she would still be hungry. The thought of a meal made her lick her lips unconsciously.

All on her own? No way!

It totally wasn’t her fault. Totally.

“Fetina!” The female replied, “I’m an assistant for the king in my pride- I’m a very important lioness… it’s okay to tell you that now, right? Because you’re not my enemy?” She just needed to make sure. Man, it was really hard to know who was good and who was bad out in the rogue lands.

Then again, it wasn’t much easier knowing who to trust in her own pride, either. A lot of the nobles disliked her for being without purple in her coat. Even telling them that she had purple beneath her main coat didn’t seem enough to please them. Maybe their glares had made her a bit jumpy.

As she watched the other, she noticed her lick her lips, looking rather.. hungry. “Oh! I’m keeping you from your hunting, aren’t I?” She said after a moment, really hoping that was the case and she hadn’t come down with a craving for crazy giraffe lioness, “I should… let you get back to it… right? I’ll talk to you another time, maybe! Or not. You know, I don’t think it mattered either way.”
