Serandite had heard of some of the captain's promotion to General. She couldn't deny that she envied them-- but she understood that their experience and time in the negaverse outranked her own. Nealite, Linarite and Obsidian had all been there before she had been-- it was understandable.

Although Serandite hadn't joined too long afterwards. She still couldn't help but be intimidated by the experience and maturity she seemed to lack. It had been all too obvious at the captain's meeting, their tone and expression of: how the hell did she get promoted? At this rate, Serandite wouldn't have been surprised to hear if Tanzanite became promoted. Speaking of Tanz.. Serandite hadn't seen or heard a word of her since their sparring match shortly after become a captain.

Actually, Serandite hadn't heard from any of the captains or generals lately. Sure, they were negaverse. Not the best of friends that conversed all the time.. But still, one expected a fair amount of communications among an organization. Possibly due to the lack of meetings?

.. The negaverse had been pretty quiet lately. Especially with the disappearances of their previous commanders.

Perhaps for Serandite, things had been quiet. Linarite, on the other hand, had immediately thrown herself to the wolves and tried to patch things with her tempestuous queen, to much failure. Now things were more embroiled than ever and with Tanzanite showing up bleeding and confused on her doorstep...well. It certainly wasn't a quiet walk in the city park at night for the General, and she was decidedly missing those easy days of being a Lieutenant and striding through Barren Pines like she was somebody powerful.

Now she was somebody powerful, but it didn't come with all the assurance she thought it would have. No, Linarite decidedly felt more vulnerable than ever before despite the massive power and protection she could summon up for herself in the blink of an eye. She was a capable fighter, considered herself fairly skilled at directing the flow of her lieutenants and captains, yet deep down lurked the feeling that soon she'd join Nealite in oblivion. For no other reason than it pleased the queen to do so.

God, but she missed Charonite!

There was one perk that the bluenette would not trade for anything, however, and that was the ability to teleport almost at whim now. It was still tiring after perhaps six or seven trips, but not bone-exhausting after one like it used to be. Audrey was never late to class, these days. The darkness wavered in Destiny City Park and the general stepped out easily into the hazy light of streetlamps, brandy-colored eyes sweeping out and catching something rather pink: Serandite. There'd been little time to converse after the last meeting with the queen, demonstrating exactly what she'd done to their previous figureheads, but Lina distinctly remembered that the rabbit captain had fallen to the malady that had taken her parents.

Striding down the path in her direction, a genuine smile formed. "Serandite, long time no see!"

A familiar voiced called out behind her, Serandite whipped her head around curiously (but defensively) but let down her guard once the bluenette approached her. Linarite had leveled up-- in more ways than one. Serandite felt like almost patting her own flat chest in hopes it'd grow. But regarding the other changes, Linarite looked fantastic in her new General uniform.

"Linarite!" The smile was returned-- Serandite briefly reflected that she hadn't spoken to the blue general much, not even when they were lieutenants. Sure, there was the battle with Linarite and kicking Castor in the groin. (Oh, good times. Good times.) However, this would be Serandite and Linarite's first meeting outside of the glimpses they saw of each other in the negaverse throne room.

"Well, one would expect you to be busy with your new boyfriend Elzo and all." Serandite coyly remarked, bringing up her most recent event, not-so-subtly-but-ever-so-gracefully sliding his name into the conversation.

Eyebrows shot up at the mention of Elzo Xanis, a snort escaping before Lina could really prevent it. Gloved fingers went up to clap over her mouth almost comically as it escaped, laughter erupting. She couldn't help it, even the mention of her goofy boyfriend made her a happier person in general, though things had been off lately with them. It wasn't hard to figure out why, and most of that was sitting on her doorstep. Things hadn't been easy for Audrey Collins lately, and it was taking a toll on all of her relationships, with exception of perhaps her cousins. They knew what was wrong, especially Victoria, and didn't hold such things against her. It would have broken their solidarity if such petty things could get into their tightly-woven defenses, and the trio were unbreakable.

"Not so much lately, though I dunno if you got that newsflash. College, house guests, meeting my parents. I think having Tanzanite staying over so much is what did it though." There'd been a bit of hesitation with that last statement, Lina wasn't entirely sure that it was wise to advertise where the ever-confusing protege of their General King was spending her nights. But there were very few now that could take on the youma-possessed young woman. A casual shrug tossed it off into the depths of 'Things Not My Problem' and kept on with the pleasantries. "More or less been busy trying to figure out who woke up from that damn coma, and who died in the process of trying to keep the city from the damn senshi. We killed a good percentage of 'em while we could, but it was impossible to get into the hospital and start sticking hands in chests. Had to bring over some friends to help out, now I've a pile of untrained lieutenants on my lap. Hoping to bring up a few captains to deal with it, did you hear that Uranophane is hopping up on that?" Linarite's pert nose crumpled at this mention, flopping down onto a nearby bench almost inelegantly.

"Guess we have to relax standards somewhere, huh?" Not talking about Elzo was a good thing, but somehow, the general didn't think she was off the hook so easily there.

Linarite's reaction to the mention of Elzo's name was not something Serandite expected. But her laughter was infectious, pulling Serandite in as well, giggling as Linarite laughed loudly. It was a surprisingly easy-going mood between them, conversing easily. "Tanzanite's staying over? That means she's safe! I've been worried since I haven't heard from her at all recently." Serandite put a hand on her chest. sighing in relief. Even if Serandite wasn't especially close with her negaverse comrades, it didn't mean she didn't have the capacity to care. In fact, it was the opposite.

As Linarite sought to fill Serandite in during her time asleep with the inflow of information, Serandite listened attentively. She had only heard a piece here and there from Skye but information from a reliable source was helpful. Not that Serandite faulted Sassolite but .. Well, lieutenants weren't always privy to the necessary information.

"Uranophane? Really? Mad scientist lieutenant upped to Captain?" Serandite echoed the question, trying to recall the name and face. While she hadn't personally met Uranophane, Serandite did place the lieutenant briefly at their last meeting. After all, you couldn't really miss the new recruits to the negaverse. "I guess we have. But it's so hard to find lieutenants of caliber-- half of them are quite.. unique." Which lieutenants Serandite might have been referring to but the tone she said it in listed her opinion well.

"But I'm jealous! It's nice to have a life outside of the negaverse-- a love life especially." Apparently, the captain wasn't going to let the topic go. "He introduced me to some Hillworth boys the other week." Serandite informed Linarite, recalling the enthusiastic attempt he made for a mere stranger.
PostPosted: Fri Oct 08, 2010 12:32 pm

That got another raised look. "Hillworth boys? Don't you meet any...oh. Right. Crystal." They were all vaguely aware of each other's civilian identities, and Serah Eos went to Crystal Academy where boys were in very short supply. "Well, they do like to hang around there, especially the rich ones like Elzo and his brother." Though the Audrey part of the general had high hopes that her affection for her very own Hillworth boy might have put a stop to that for him. He had absolutely no need to be up there, she went to DCU, by way of Meadowview. And Barren Pines for a few brief months of ecstasy that nobody ever spoke of except with reverent horror.

"I guess if Elzo introduced you though, they're safe. I think he was going on one of the most popular kids there before graduating. And yes, it's nice to have a love life, but it's also sorta...unsettling. You never know when an uppity lieutenant is going to go after your boyfriend, though I've drummed it pretty hard into most of the youma that he's to be avoided if seen." There was an irony to this statement that absolutely no one in the Negaverse would have understood, not even Linarite. Hopefully, it would stay that way! Flipping her hair back with a smile, Lina moved on to answer the other questions that had shot out of the equally petite Captain.

"Tanzanite's alive, though I think that's all can really be said. Nealite was her best friend and Charonite was personally training her. She's understandably not taking that news well, but she's coping." Barely. It was a great source of concern, but there was absolutely nothing that anyone could do. None of them understood Tanz even a little bit! "She said she'd been in Europe, though I'm not sure why the queen would have sent her there. Must have been important, to send her." Tanz never failed. The one time she'd failed, she'd died and had to be brought back.

"Uranophane, Scheelite, Zinkenite. So many moving up, maybe you'll be on my level soon?" That was a bit of a smartassed comment, it wasn't really a secret that most of the others wondered what it was about Serandite that got things done. After all, she sorta dressed like a senshi, and ran around with a giant-a** rabbit. Linarite had some respect for her, having fought with the girl previously and finding her rather capable. But still.

A rabbit?

"Whatcha think? Aiming to be General too, Serandite?"

"That's true." Serandite agreed when Linarite spoke of the negaverse going after Elzo. She briefly wondered of her brother-- it wasn't going to be good if a negaverse stole his starseed, regarding him as a civilian. She had better be careful to drum it into the negaverse as well.. Briefly, she tucked the thought of watching over him when he went out in the back of her head.

Perhaps she could send her youma to keep watch? But if she was caught, than that would end up into a mess. Hmm. She was distracted but soon came back to reality as Linarite filled her in on other topics.

Tanzanite had been sent to Europe? That was surprising news. At the thought of their previous Queen and King, even Serandite's face fell, eyes lowering to the ground, hands holding each other tightly in her lap. She swallowed back the lump in her throat, the memory still fresh in her head, of their ruler's current state.

"...Who is coping well?" Serandite voiced softly, unable to imagine Tanzanite's broken heart. Tanz's relationship to their leaders was no secret-- it went much farther than Serandite's relationships. If Serandite was in bad shape, who could predict Tanzanite's emotional distress? Serandite's thoughts echoed Linarite's own, that none of them could understood Tanzanite. She had always been a mysterious figure. Even more so, being sent off on exclusive missions that nobody knew about. Not even the Generals, apparently, from what Linarite has just said.

Linarite's comment dispelled the depressing mood, lighting an air of challenge between Linarite and Serandite. It was provoking-- although justified, considering the doubts about Serandite moving up to General. "Don't forget Rhodizite. He's more than capable enough to move up." She injected, sending a sly smile over to Linarite. ".. Perhaps. Perhaps not. But it would be interesting if I did get promoted, wouldn't it?" Serandite tipped her head, looking off into the distance as she spoke, eyes soon narrowing back to Linarite. Her silent message, challenging the other to voice her true thoughts: say it.

People may have thought Serandite was capable. But not that capable. What the other generals might have said promptly: Stay in your playpen and play with your little toys. That's as far as you'll ever make it.

As for whether Serandite wanted to move up.. Well, that was a different matter entirely. Did she? Or did she not? .. It was a mystery, even to Serandite.

It would be more than a little interesting if Serandite were able to handle the incredibly painful transition from Captain to General. Linarite was still convinced, deep in her heart, that she was no longer human; that now she was some form of undead creature much like Beryl, animated solely by the power of their great Negaverse. When the Queen had reached into her body and poured through the power of a general, Audrey Collins had died on the floor and her body had been revived by a dark power greater than anything she had ever known. These things were the things that they couldn't, wouldn't speak of to anyone else. Maybe, just maybe, if she could survive it, Pinky would surprise them all in the end.

It was a cool look that was flavored with more than a little amusement before it faded and became deeply sad. "No, I don't think anyone that knew them is coping well. I haven't seen Obsidian or Hematite since." Lina was not at all about to mention the fact that she'd gone down there to talk to her mortal enemy, to swear at her, and perhaps even had cried a little...but not where anyone could see her, not even the crystal monolith. "Have you seen much of your own team? It seems like a long time ago that we were given them to mess with, and now they're going to do their own messing. I'm supposed to mess with you now." The smile was back, trying to make the lightest out of a dark and dire situation.

They may have owned the shadows, but that didn't mean they had to be overly morbid about it!

What was one of the saddest and most foolish statements of all was Serandite's ignorance in transforming to a General-- a statement she couldn't be blamed for since nobody had really become a general before now to advertise the pain one went through. Nor was it public knowledge, one didn't just go out and announce it. Their conversation moved on to different topics, lightening their previously dismal atmosphere. It had been a relief to talk it over with Linarite, even if it was only briefly, she knew. She must have taken it much harder, due to her intense rivalry with the other. Everyone knew of that. Talking it over with Raite had been nice but Raite didn't seem to completely understand the depth of it-- not like the other captains.

The original seven, Serandite liked to term it. It was a nice number, the seven of them meeting up with Nealite.

"My team? Not really. But two of them have already moved up! There's no need for me to be monitoring their actions anymore, I suppose." While that statement might have brought a degree of sadness before, Serandite cherished that for the meantime, they were still in the negaverse. She could "visit" them when she liked! (Oh, the joys of teleportation.)

"You? Messing with me? Bring it-- I'll take on everything and anything you can throw at me. Including pie on my face-- you'd better be prepared, I'll throw it straight back!" Serandite quipped, laughing easily with the bluenette.

Hell no, they didn't have to be morbid about it. They owned the shadows-- they were badass. Senshi out there had nothing on their side but a few petty parlor tricks.
PostPosted: Sat Oct 30, 2010 6:15 pm

Parlor tricks and one devastatingly charming individual who had wreacked havoc on more than one Negaverse girl, though most recently just Linarite. There was a smile that was a bit smug, and a bit proud -- of both of them. Serandite didn't seem quite so very young these days, and that was only for the better. Not that she could take the general (oh no, Lina was sure she would win!), but that she could take on just about any senshi they were all confident.

Otherwise, she wouldn't be here now.

"Most of mine have gone up too, all except Paragonite, but she was newer anyway. It's really weird to think that we were Lieutenants, and then Captains....well. Like I said, you'll be up here soon enough. I was always concerned with making sure that they were all doing okay, but I guess I have more to worry about now. I've been given a new mission, and I'm not entirely sure it's possible." Golden eyes looked up at the stars with silence, hair falling back to reveal the daisy earrings she'd so recently obtained, speaking no more about it.

Let Serandite assume she meant Princess Chronos or similar. It wouldn't be the first time they were given an impossible goal. Determined to have fun, Lina pulled out her staff and poked lightly at the other girl. "If you put pie on my face, it's on."

"Like I said, you'll be up here soon enough."

Linarite may not have known how much those words meant to Serandite. But they meant the world to Serandite-- Serandite could claim that she didn't care much for the other captains and general's opinions of her but to be honest, she did. Some more than others, some less than others.. and some, not at all. But Linarite definitely fit into "more than others" category. She was senior to Serandite, the few that were, and she proved herself time and time again to be capable. All these qualities and more only made the side comment more precious to Serandite.

Focusing on the topic at hand...

Linarite's words only emphasized the truth-- their sole attention could no longer be diverted to simple retrieval of starseeds and looking over their comrades. While some could more than others, it was time for the negaverse to start with new tactics. It was no surprise, Linarite was given a new mission. "It's possible Linarite. Chin up, Miss Esteemed General!" Serandite's cheerful comment was absolute, without a trace of doubt in Linarite. She edged away, chuckling at Linarite hit a ticklish spot with her staff, Serandite's attempt to be solemn failed as she burst out in laughter. After a few cheerful moments of laughter, several rays of the sun started to peek out from the darkened horizon.

She flipped out a pink cellphone to check the time, her eyes widening. She'd better get home or her brother was going to find out that she wasn't in bed like she was supposed to be. (That would cause some mess there.) "I've gotta go. It's almost daybreak." Serandite leaped off the spot she had been seated on, her hands brushing the stray dust off her outfit. "Say hi to Tanz for me!" She waved to Linarite, seeming just a little more grown up from their meeting. (Or smaller, if one compared her to Linarite.) She was about to teleport off when she turned to Linarite, as if she had forgotten something.

"Thanks." The words were soft at first, eyes casted downwards. But then Serandite looked up with sparking brown eyes, a wider smile crossing her cheerful expression.

"Thank you for believing that I can make it to the rank of General. Who knows if I'll ever make it there-- but I'm definitely going to try. Can't have you, Obby, Tanz, Toby and everyone leaving me behind in the dust." She gave Linarite an energetic thumbs up, leaving with a declaration. "Watch, I'm going to make it there and shock Obsidian and Hematite speechless."
