This is a self RP between Nastiras (a Soquili) and Karrot (a familiar) of their first meeting, documented in case it is needed for a future plot. Please do not post unless you had been invited!

It was a tranquil night, the air was cool and crisp as it transits from Summer to Autumn and the moon hung high in the cloudless sky. The canopy glowed under the moonlight, and the river sparkled like a scene out of a fairytale. However, the unicorn's heart was far from being still. In fact, she felt discouraged; she had been searching for a month now, but her search had been in vain. Nobody had seen or heard of a unicorn fitting her sister's description... Worse still, the only clue the lone survivor of her sister's expedition team couldn't provide her with a clue before she left as he claimed that they had separated when "it" happened.

He had refused to give anyone a recount of what happened, and Nastiras knew better than to push a victim of shock to his limits.

She sighed, shifting her limbs as she tried to make herself more comfortable against the trunk of a huge oak - the place she had decided to rest for the night. Tilting her head, she peered at the mountains through the canopy, a soft sigh escaping her lips as she closed her eyes and bowed her head; perhaps tomorrow might be better.

The sound of tiny paws against the soft earth was prominent when the surroundings was so quiet; even the crickets were silent as he ducked into a hallowed fallen log, rustling some fallen leaves in the process. He was on a quest, and ugh! How he hated it! He hadn't had anything decent to eat, his feathers were tattered and torn in some places, and so many creatures wanted to eat him that it wasn't even funny! If he could live his life over again, he would have declined that stupid, stupid Kalona's deal in a heartbeat!

Now, that same Kalona is his master and he had sent him on this... This impossible quest.

"Find Nas, he says, help her in her search and don't come back till its done," He muttered under his breath, obviously irritated. His voice echoed in the log, startling him; he jumped, hitting his head on the top of the log, causing another echo to sound. Now a shade redder, positively embarrassed and glad that nobody was around to witness his little "performance", he darted out from the other end of the log, straight into a bush and wham!

"OW!WHAT THE-"

Her heart had quietened down for the most part, the negative thoughts she had earlier wearing her down more than the long distance she had traveled in the day. Yawning, the sounds from her surroundings faded as she drifted off to sleep, her body feeling heavier than usual.

Wham! The sudden sound caused her eyelids to shoot wide open, and her head to jerk up. Her eyes took a while to get readjusted to the darkness, but when they did, the moon provided her with just enough light to take a good look around, her eyes eventually landing on the twitching limbs of a rabbit that had fallen over on its face at the base of a nearby tree. She frowned, climbing up onto all fours before approaching it, wondering if it needed any medical attention.

Wait a minute - are the feet of that rabbit actually glowing a slight green? And... Are those real wings on its back? She knows this rabbit!

After a second's pause, she frowned slightly, an eyebrow raised as she lowered her head to take a closer look at the rabbit, "... Karrot? Is that you?"

Now, that was extremely painful. Even worse than the time he was sent to distract a Kalona while his master attacked from behind! Even worse than the time his master kicked a rock at him for complaining about distracting the Kalona! Even worse than- He tried to move, but realized that his horns - Antlers? Nobody ever told him what they were - were stuck in the truck of the tree he had collided with.

Ah, well. He'll wiggle free soon enough! Luckily, its dark out so there wasn't anyone around to witness thi- Wait, did he just hear someone walking towards him? Ah snap - nothing ever goes smoothly for him... No! He must be the poster boy for bad luck. Ah, might as well - knowing his (lack of) luck, whatever is approaching must be some lean, mean hungry predator and he must be its midnight snack! Awesome. Hopefully whatever eats him will chock on his bones! Ha!

'Karrot?' He froze, ears perking; that voice! He'll know it anywhere! It couldn't be... Could it? Is his luck finally improving? Oh, thank the shadows! He grinned, wiggling his wings as he resisted the urge to nod since it might break his horns/antlers, "Nas! Nas! Nas! Ah, finally! You're such a pain to find!"

She almost winced when Karrot spoke, his tone of voice making it sound like him ramming into a tree was her fault. However, his first sentence - a complain - confirmed her suspicious of him being her friend's familiar... After all, how many rabbits, or as he called himself, Wolpertinger, have glowing feet and a mouth that was constantly complaining and whining about something?

A soft sigh escaped her lips, glowing green eyes examining his body, making sure that there were no sprained or broken bones for fear of aggravating his injuries when removing him from the tree. When her trained eye saw no such serious injuries, she gently gripped him by the ruff of his neck and, ignoring his cries of protest, pulled him out of the tree trunk before letting him go. She then stared at him for a moment, not knowing if she should feel glad or annoyed at his presence; he might be a familiar face (no pun intended), but he's not a very pleasant companion. In fact, perhaps it would be better for her to travel alone.

"So, what are you doing out here? Did you run away from Rakshal?" She finally asked, nudging him at several areas as she checked him over again. Spotting a few cuts and bruises, she pointed her horn at him, focusing and directing his energy towards it before adding, "Don't move..."

She then rested her horn on his head; healing such a small body meant that she didn't need to attend to each wound one by one, saving her some work and energy. She felt her energy pour out of the tip, much like the way ripples travel on the surface of water. It was warm, comforting and helped relax one's muscles. This technique was useful in many situations in the past, especially in stressful situations!

"Ah, much, much better," He replied, tapping his foot against the moist ground as he felt calming waves wash over him, spreading from where the unicorn's horn was rested on his body. He could feel his aches fading, and he allowed his body to relax - for a split second, he actually felt that life was awesome. For course, after that split second was over, he went back to frowning and grumbling, griping about how terrible his life was in his mind.

When he felt like he ran out of things to mentally angst about, Karrot turned his head to look up at the mare, waving a small, dismissive paw in the air as he grumbled loudly, making sure to highlight all the dangers he had to overcome in this unfamiliar territory just to seek her out, "The predators in this land are huge! If not for my smarts, I might be someone's meal by now! And the terrain? Terrible! You know how many cuts I got from running through bushes, or hiding in them? Seriously!" He then paused for effect, "All that just to find you!"

He smirked, wiggling his wings as he stuck his chest out proudly. Placing a paw on his chest rather dramatically, he exclaimed, "Yes, yes! I came to find you, Nas! Master chose me to help you in your search for Saritsan, and I agreed despite knowing about the dangers! Praise me! Praise me more!"

"Go home."

Nastiras frowned, lifting her horn from the Wolpertinger's body as she turned around, heading back to where she had been resting before. His constant chattering was giving her a headache, and he had to wake her up (using such an unconventional method, no doubt) just as she was about to fall asleep... He was not the only one who had it rough since arriving in this land! She had seen better days as well - it just made her rather irritated that he had the audacity to complain.

"Go back to Rakshal and tell him that I do not require his -no - your help," She continued rather coldly, her tone suggesting that it was more of a command than a request. Laying back down under the tree she had decided would be her bed for the night, Nastiras resisted the urge to yawn as she continued, "However, you may spend the night here, and I will keep predators at bay for you until dawn... Then you will leave for the herd. Do not disturb my sleep further from now, or I'll show you that Rakshal is much more forgiving than me when I am upset..."

She then paused, narrowing her eyes as she eyed Karrot, "Understood?"

"Y-y-yes N-Nas!" Karrot cowered, his previously haughty disposition vanishing as his ears flopped down, sticking to the back of his skull; as he thought, Nas can be scary too... She must be, to lead a sizable guild back home and to have made Rakshal rather moody back when they were still together. He gulped, thinking it best to shut up and just curl up beside the mare when ordered to "spend the night". He then nodded silently, closing his eyes and pretending to sleep.

Ah, he can't go back! Rakshal will kill him for sure! But if he stays, Nas might kill him! He's dead either way, but which is the less painful way? Woe is him! He really is unlucky... Aren't rabbit's foot supposed to be lucky? He had four of them and he still ends up in all the bad situations! Sighing inwardly, he shifted his position, half opening an eye to look at the unicorn beside him; he'll have to stalk her! That's the only way! He'll leave tomorrow, but follow her closely... That way, he won't have to die!

Smiling, he used his wings to cover his body before drifting off to sleep, dreaming of a life where he was nobody's familiar and his own master...

Finally... Peace and quiet again. Nastiras heaved a sigh of relief as Karrot seemingly went to sleep; he was always a coward at heart... Talking tough, but when the going gets tough, he'll start cowering and complaining about how miserable his life was. Really, why did Rakshal choose him to be his familiar? Then again, his cowardliness was perfect for a Kalona to manipulate; just threatening to eat him would cause the Wolpertinger to obey his every word.

Closing her eyes, the unicorn shifted her body to make herself more comfortable before relaxing completely. She felt so worn out that it would probably be easier for her to fall asleep... Hopefully.
