The female had her paws full when it came to cubs. A litter of females, she had not been expecting. She knew she had let Malenga down slightly, by not giving him a single male to carry on his lines.. But she was sure her girls were just as special as any boy could be. They were smart, beautiful, and some just as conniving and sly as their father. She supposed it was good they had the good genes within them. Least they would never be weak, and likely never fall into a situation where they could be hurt without realizing.
She lay on the grassy floor, the savannah having turned a lovely shade of golden. Her tail flicked back and forth, the tuft hitting the dirt, and throwing sand into the air. Her red eyes glittered as she watched the cubs closely. She needed to make sure they were protected. If one was to be hurt on her watch, she knew that she would hear of it from Malenga, if not only the guilt from herself.
"Adanna, please dont harass the beetles.." She said, watching her blonde daughter poke a beetle with the claw, run, and then circle back to it and poke it again.
The little black bug had her attention and she wasnt likely to let it go. She could be really focused when she had to be. She let out a growl as she poked it. It fluttered its wings, and with a squeak, she ran from the beetle, and darted back to poke it again. She giggled and narrowed her eyes. Leaning in for the kill, she heard momma's voice and perked her ears. She sighed, lifting herself up from her crouching position and sat down, tail flicking side to side.
"But mooom.. How am I gonna practice huntin' if you dont let me hunt?" She asked, and snorted. If daddy were the one watching HE'D let her eat the bug. Not that he would enjoy watching the show, but the hunt would be interesting for him, she was sure.
Her red eyes, the eyes of her mother, glittered in the sun and she took a deep breath. There had to be SOMETHING to do..

Malenga wasn't sure what to make of the cubs. They looked like him a little, and smelled like him a little too. They had half his genes in them, making them strong, fierce, devilishly good looking cubs. But... they were all girls. How had his male-ly genes not managed to produce one male offspring? It almost felt like something was wrong with him. Oh God, if that nancy boy saw this! He'd probably laugh out loud.
Good thing he hadn't seen the old geezer in a long time.
Making his way back to the group, he pulled with him the body of a fairly good sized prey beast. More than enough to feed his whole... family. Yes, he had babies, but that didn't mean he was tied down! If she thought that made them mates... they had some chatting to do. They were just parents... of the same cubs... with mild appreciation for one another. Nothing more.
Shenga watched her sister play with the bug, tilting her head to one side. It was just a bug, and probably tasted gross, so why bother with it?
"Listen to mommy!" she barked, always ready to give orders and advice whenever possible, "you have to listen to your parents, right mommy?"
Turning her head over her shoulder, she let her eyes widen as she saw something large heading their way. It was big and slow and smelled... really delicious. Watching it get closer, she allowed herself to smile once she finally realized what it was- food. "Daddy has food!" she all but screamed, racing for it.

Mkali was not far off from her family, yet as always she had half-removed herself to a position where she could watch. She was always happiest in a high spot where she could “look down” on her sisters, but today all she could find was a small rock she could lie beside for shade. Even then, her ears were still in the sun. Her bright blue eyes were narrowed slightly as she watched Adanna bat at a bug. She sighed, doing her very best to make it both very condescending and very loud.
“I don’t know a lot of good hunters that are scared of beetles,” Mkali told Adanna, her voice full of immature arrogance as she referred to her sister squeaking and running away, even though she knew very well Adanna was just playing, “If that’s too scary for you, I know where there’s a dried up dead worm that might be easier.” She smirked, sure that her taunt would get her in trouble with her mom, but happy because she thought it had been worth it to torment her pretty sister a little. And speaking of her sisters… Mkali rolled her eyes as Shenga, as usual, was telling everyone what to do. Instead of harassing her about what she was doing, Mkali just blew a raspberry in her direction discreetly. Dad was back now, so she was on her better behavior.
Now that dinner was here, Mkali got up and strolled over to her father, putting on her best “good girl” smile despite the fact that she knew he knew better. “Daddy!” She chirped happily, making to rub against his foreleg if he’d let her, “Thank you for dinner! You’re the best Daddy ever!” Mommy didn’t have something she wanted right now, so for the moment she was ignored.

Demi knew not to see Malenga as her mate. Sure, they had mated and produced cubs, but.. he did not love her like he loved the female he searched for. She supposed they were friends, and he had confided in her when he felt the lowest. The result, being the cubs that she now looked after. She was okay with that.. maybe it would take his mind off not finding the female for now. He had plenty of girls to go around now!
She chuckled at Shenga, nodding a little, and thinking that it was adorable she had that bossy attitude already. She sure was her fathers daughter, but yet.. she reminded Demi of herself in the same way.
"Yes, Shenga. Its a very good thing to listen to mommy. Otherwise mommy gets mad, and what happens when mommys mad?" She asked ,though grinned and finished for her.
"Daddy gets madder." She said with a mischevious tone to her voice. She had taken on mothering rather easily.. And she found she liked it a good bit. Looking over to Mkali, she shook her head. Yes..Yes this litter definitely had alot of their father in them. She snorted a little, her eyes taking on that 'mothers' look. "Mkali.. Youd best be nice. Your father is here you know." She said, a warning to the young cub.
Adanna looked to Shenga and stuck out her tongue, disliking when she got all bossy. She had one mother, she didnt need two! "I do listen to mommy! I stopped didn't I?" She asked, her tone raised a bit, but instantly her ears went back when she noticed father had returned. She had to be cautious around daddy. She didnt want him to see her as a spoiled brat. She wanted to be just like him, and he wasnt like that! She narrowed her eyes at Mkali, and snorted. If Shenga was bossy, Mkali was a b***h and it annoyed the cub. Why couldnt any of her sisters be normal? Though..she wasnt exactly normal in herself. "I dont want no stinkin' worm," She retorted, but then her attention went back to the approaching lion.
"Daddy!" She said, racing to him. What he had smelled really good, and she couldnt help but lick her maw and paw around her father.
"You brought us food! Youre such a good daddy." She purred with excitement.

Sauca was quieter than her sisters, preferring to watch them quarrel with each other without getting involved. Adanna had had a good idea about practicing her hunting, but the yellow cub felt that it was her aim that needed the most practice. So while one of her sisters harassed a beetle and two more harassed the first, Sauca used her claws to stab ants. Most of the time she missed her tiny targets, but the small bodies were piling up when she got a whiff of dinner.
The ants were almost completely forgotten as Sauca got to her feet to join her sisters as they crowded around, all eager for the meal.
"That looks really good Daddy!" she called out. "Will we get to help you soon?" Sauca's eyes were fastened on the carcass her father dragged behind him with a bloodlust that matched her red eyes and markings.
