Rape is the act of forcing sex on someone who does not want it. I know that's not from a dictionary or anything, but that's the gist of it, in my opinion. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people misuse this word (Along similar lines, I hate when people use the word "gay" to imply that something is "stupid", but I won't go into that right now). It seems to me that it's kind of a trend for people to use the word "rape" to mean other things. I've heard people say things like, " I totally want to rape that guy; he's so hot!", and " That test totally butt-raped me. I definitely failed." I don't think it's okay to use the word rape in those kinds of circumstances. I feel it's offensive to people who actually have been raped, as in, they were coerced into having sex with somebody against their will. You never know if someone you're talking to has been raped, either, so if you get into the habit of using this word incorrectly, you might really offend someone. I've seen it happen. This guy I used to know who went to my college last year would often tell people that he'd love to "rape" certain guys on campus. I was at the cafeteria with one of my best friends here, and we heard this guy start talking about someone he'd love to "rape." She had tears in her eyes when she told the guy that him using the word like that really offended her, because she had actually been raped. Using the word "rape" in these kinds of ways can really hurt someone. Is it common wherever you live for people to use the word "rape" incorrectly? What do you think of it? Am I being too sensitive/politically correct, or do you find it offensive as well? --- Power of Words. Words have meaning -As school children, we all learn that at an early age. But words have power as well. In human history, words have inspired the best in humanity such as the Holy Bible as well as the worst as in Mein Kampf. Words have brought liberty where tyranny prevailed such as “We the people…” or sent men to war as in “…a day that will live in infamy!” So it can be concluded that words are not just noises or visual markings but rather messages with real meanings. These meanings carry power and can uplift or destroy. But with power comes responsibility -Something that the world of the internet is NOT know for. A case in point is the blogger Denise Drew and the RAPE word referenced above. While the internet gives maximum freedom to say whatever one wishes to, we ALL need to think about what we say before typing away. Denise did not and that post is not all. P.T.A.V.E. also misuses the power of words to advance a cause. In this case, the use of the words “lynching” and “*****” are not only out of context to the issue of c.p. in schools but also denigrates the real victims of lynching and molestation.

I know people at my school who use the word in stupid manners and I have one or two friends who have been raped. I don't know if it offends them, but I really dislike the use of rape being used in a pointless state of manner.

There are peeps at my school who misuse the word "rape". Although I have not experienced it, I know it can be offensive to those who actually have been raped.

I mean, you have to admit, Not all rape victims are strong enough to the point where they can ignore something like that. I just recently completed my therapy sessions, and throughout the sessions, my therapist helped me learn to cope with "triggers". Hearing someone say, "Ah! I was totally raped today" would've put me in tears so quickly back then after it happened. I can't speak for all rape victims, but me, myself, I couldn't handle that kind of language after it happened.
Everytime you hear the word "rape" it's like a painful reminder of what happened that day. I couldn't handle that after the rape. I can handle it now, however, via therapy sessions.
I mean, I understand what you're saying. It just seemed a little insensitive.

I kinda think when people use the word "rape" they only think of the word sex.Although they do understand what it means, they sometimes use it incorrectly to keep themselves from thinking of "Actual rape".but thats my opinion and such.

Pandeh-L I have also used this word incorrectly. I don't know. Moist people I know think that rape = "surprise" sex. It really doesn't.
I believe some people are just ignorant in the fact that they use words so freely and don't care who they are offending.
