Has anybody had those? Maybe the first time you were marching onto the field together, band camp shenanigans, bus rides, or whatever else you can think of!

I know my band is like one big family. <3 I'll start.

Friday night we were planning on going to a football game, but it got rained out and rescheduled to Saturday night. So the band president sent out a mass text to all of the band kids he had on his phone and a whole group of us showed up at the game anyway! The plan was to do an unofficial pep band with our instruments but no uniforms. But the performing arts center was locked, so none of us could get our instruments. Instead we all sat in the band section of the bleachers and sang our stand tunes and the fight song instead! We belted out the fight song four or five times. It was great - the cheerleaders have a dance that they do whenever we play the fight song, and they did it to our horrible singing xD They also have a few band-specific cheers which they did anyway to humor us biggrin

We had our first full uniform game this friday, and I'm a freshman. Being in the uniform, getting into stadium block, it was pretty damn awesome. When we marched into the stadium, the cheerleaders (JV) started chanting my name, and I almost smiled at attention. I am socially awkward, but I have such an easy time with band, interacting with them and hanging out. I've never felt as good as I did friday.

My very first tiem marching on the field was amazing. Before that, I was ready to quit because i felt i couldnt handle it. But marching onto the field for the first time set it in that band was really where i wanted to be.

this year, our school got a new principle. He has this new motto, "212 degrees". Its a book all the teachers had to study that talks about how when water is 211 degrees, it is hot, but at 212 degrees it boils, and boiling water can power a locomotive and yadayadayada. So this year, the staff has been taking pictures of thigns they see that show a 212 degree effort. The first picture taken was of the band, when we decided on a whim to play in the courtyard to welcome everyone on the first day of school. When we were told that, it was an awesome feeling. To know that the band is respected by the schoo admin enough to be the first picture displaying effort, its just ebyond comprhnsion.

This Saturday my band went to a BOA contest. We got 3rd overall!!! The 2 bands that beat us were pretty much the best bands in state, so we all are sure that we did awesome! The entire crowd gave us a standing ovation at the end of our finals performance. It was amazing. Our head director was jumping up and down with excitement several times throughout the show. We're all really excited about the rest of the season. blaugh

My very first field show as a freshman made me realize how important this stuff was. Boy, that was intense.

And of course, around championship times is when it's all like...ha, I can't begin to describe.

It's amazing.

I have 3.

-Once, we were marchign around the school for a pep rally, pretty much disturbing the classes with the fight song and stands tunes(very fun), and we realized that weonly had a minute to get into the auditorium to play while everyone walked in, and we were literally across school. Ourdirector told us to run. Our trumpet sl played that one fanfare that you see on like old midevil movies before the army charges, and the entre band surged forward and literally charged toward the auditorium yelling "charge". The entire school, already heading towards the auditorium, stopped midstep, freaked out, and parted to let us through. The look on their faces was hilarious. 80 people charging towards a group of hundreds of people, and the 80 people win.

-Last year at U of A band day. For awards, they first called out ecellents. We didn't get called, and were so disapointed. We didn't realize we had done so bad. Then, our name wasnt called for goods. We were even more depressed. People started crying. Fair or poor? THEN, superiors were called. We were the first they called. The entire band shot up from our seats, now almost the entire band crying, and roared and cheered as loud as we could. That was the first time we had gotten a superior at that competition in 20 years. We were quite happy. It was an amazing feeling being part of a band with so much potential, and so much pride. We were hugging and crying, and we were definately more of a family then then we have been before or since.

-At state, i wasnt there, but i smiled when i heard about it. Apparently, my band did one of their best shows, and the crowd loved them. Howeer, the judges screwed us over because they are all biased towards bands from the state capital. When we got called for the good, apparently the entire crowd gasped. Even thoug i wasnt there, its awesome that we did so good that a low score was gasp-worthy for the audience.

Every time we are getting in uniform for a game or a parade my friend puts on music, and each time the Piano Man comes on, the whole band sings it's so fun to do and just warms you to the brim knowing that these are people you knew for a long time.

I have three as well.
-The first time we ever did a competative field show, my sophomore year, we did two competitions in one day. At the first competition, this other band was talking trash on us. Well, we showed them. We ended up placing third in our class (and defeating them) at both competitions. Third place...big deal right? Well, to us, who had never done this field show thing before...it was amazing to take third.

- This year, my senior year, we attempted our hardest show yet. Well, hard for us at least. When we went to compete, it was a deadheat competition between us and a big Missouri band. Missouri bands normally win when they compete in Illinois, not always, but usually. It was the two of us in 4A competition. We ended up taking best drum major, best music, best percussion, and first in class. With each trophy we won, the cheering got louder, and by the end of it all we were all in tears. We did not see it coming at all. Our first first place in field show in over ten years.

-Later in the season, at my last competition ever, we went to do our show. There's two half time sections in the show; one in the first movement and one in the third. After both half times, I saw our two directors standing and applauding. I almost started crying. That night, after we got the results, our director said that it was the best preformance of one of his bands ever. What a way to end my last marching season.

A few of my bandies and I stayed for the rest of a competition to see the three and four A bands for, you see, we're a very small band. So like total dorks we were there in our blankets, hats, and earmuffs. We all got apple cider to keep warm, but it felt like the tempurature was about negative 30 degrees. We were all huddled over the stands in little clusters near each other, clutching together for warmth, but when we saw those bands preform, we were so proud to be there. We were in awe, and on the way home, we sang journey songs because of all the journey love the bands had put out.

xDD It was so cool!

Well.... one is when our band got 5 sweepstakes!!!!! We were all stressed because it was nowhere near as good as rehearsal and the wind destroyed our props and the seniors were in tears because they were sad that their last performance was bad but... WOOT!!! Our drum major was also conducting blind because her contacts were burning her eyes out..... BUT it was one of the best times of my life. The adrenaline was so high and it was a great way to end the season. Screaming your soul out is fun especially when your with your best friends and your second family.

Another is when the refs at a game told us we werent allowed to play because we were "too loud" so we all pulled out mini whistles and kazoos and those cheap plastic recorders and we played with those!!! The ref was like "IHATEYOU..." but it was soooooo fun and my band director approved. It sounded horrible but whatever!! I love my band!!!!

I'm a freshmen in high school and our marching season is over, but I loved every second of it; starting from band camp. I even loved tripping in our last half-time performance. xD
We got first in our last competition and last in out first. But it didn't matter. I still love marching band. <3 Especially the hats. x3

oh gosh i loved marching band. i was on the color guard/ band front/ dance team for all four years, and even though this is my first year out of high school, i miss it immensely. the high school i went to and the one across the river has the longest rivalry of any highschool football team in the nation- every year we play a turkey day game, even though we are in two very different districts- the other team has about 3x the amount of people and resources so we almost always loose. looking back, i wouldnt have it any other way because the spirit of the underdog is a powerful thing! even getting spat on by adults from the opposing team couldnt smash our spirit.
what i loved best about the entire thing was the amazing friends i made. even though im now 200 miles away, we still keep in touch.
besides. who can forget all the times we had to whip a flag around in pouring rain or sleet? those were great times.

The drum major grinning the whole way through the show, showing everyone how proud she is of us.
Feeling how intense and in-time we get when we see how happy the DM is.

The crowd going crazy for the solos/section solis.
The crowd going crazy in general.

The thrill of going out on the field of competition, not knowing how it's going to go.
The thrill of leaving the field of competition, not knowing how you're going to be scored.

Knowing that we're representing our school in a positive way that no other organization does.

When we shout our vocals to our cadence.
That, and this one phrase of music that anyone who is anyone knows.
