The start of another day; chores, errands, and requests would be coming soon and Nerit felt for the first time like not going through with her day. The lioness felt like staying curled up next to Unyezi until..well until it was time to go back to sleep again.
She let out a long yawn and stretched beside Unyezi and then curled back into a comfortable position. She inhaled the smell of him and sighed.
"Do you think we could get away with staying in?" She whispered, not sure if he was awake. There was humor in her voice, but she felt completely serious. "We're old folks now, right?"

Unyezi felt Nerit stir beside him but he wasn't eager to get up, especially when she yawned and settled back in against him. He was just about ready to drift back off to sleep when she whispered to him and he was forced to acknowledge his own alertness. He didn't open his eyes or move except to give a sound somewhere between a snore and a yawn.
"I'm still asleep," he murmured, inching himself a bit closer to his mate and resting his head against her, "Can't go anywhere if I'm still asleep."

"Would be nice to be lazy and stay in," Nerit murmured and pressed into her mate. "Then again, it's always nice to see the children." She liked her duties because it gave her the ability to see her children, and their children. Andy seemed to always need advice,and Aoede liked to spend time around the den.
She let out a chuckle, "Sorry to be so sour so early in the morning, love... I'm just feeling like my age is catching up all of a sudden." This seemed quite funny to her, Unyezi and Nerit were not that old in the scheme of things, there were much older...they could be Mizu.

"We can see them anytime," he murmured sleepily, still determinedly keeping his eyes closed as if he was still fast asleep. He didn't open them until she said she was starting to feel like her age was catching up to her suddenly.
"Wait, why?" he said, his eyes snapping open and revealing he wasn't only awake but he was alert, "What's different about today? The only really big change is all the drama Uli managed to find for himself, but we already have grandcubs, that can't be it..?"
What was there to feel old about? Lions often lived to see several generations below them, they were still active.. maybe they were sleepy but blaming age wasn't a good excuse.

"I'm not sure, just feeling like an old lady," she laughed again, "Perhaps it's because Andy and Rika are all grown up, and Uli's drama."
"It's probably just an off day," she attempted to reassure him as much as herself, "just the thought of our cubs with cubs...more cubs." It was a silly thought but Nerit was thinking she would have had another litter by now, and the current drama was giving her cub fever. Were they too old to have any more? "We're not that old after all."

"Hmm, well, we always knew they'd grow up," he said smiling, but he paused thinking of Uli, shaking his head, "I suppose Uli's drama is a strong reminder of how long ago our own little drama was.."
That did seem like forever ago at this point. So long..
"No, we're not that old," he agreed, but he did not seem to be paying so much attention now. Her words suddenly struck him just the right way to give him the same idea she had.
"We could have more cubs," he said, "Our cubs aren't the only ones who can do that!"

Nerit stifled a yawn and craned her neck to look at Unyezi.
"It was nice to pretend they would be little forever," she smirked, "At least then we could boss them around. Uli's drama will pass, and they will be happy." It felt like yesterday she was talking to Uli about how it would be to grow up, find a mate, and settle down.
"I don't really like to think about our past, I like to think that our lives were always this way. Two lions madly in love..spending lots of time together, falling asleep next to a wonderful mate."
"We..we could, but what cubs want two old fuddy-duddies for parents?" a hint of sarcasm and playfulness crept into her voice. She wanted cubs again, Nerit enjoyed motherhood..just not them growing up so soon.

"Well, we can boss Uli around again, right?" he suggested thoughtfully, "Now we're the same rank, we have seniority. Plus we're his parents and could probably use a little bossing around after this mess."
He chuckled. He knew Uli cared for Mawu and that they would be OK. That didn't mean nobody could give him a hard time about it. At least from them it would all be good-natured.
"I don't know, but looking at what we've already produced I'd say the strange ones."
Oh, Uli.

She agreed that he might need to be bossed around just a bit after the trouble he'd caused for himself. Nerit wasn't opposed to any of her children being slaves. She just wish Uli'd gone through some proper channels before doing so.
The lioness felt her mood lighten slightly, Unyezi was very good at getting her out of a funk. She swished her back half, bumping into him with her side.
"I suppose we couldn't get much stranger," She grinned, were they really talking more cubs? "I would have more..if you would?"

"I dunno," he said, shrugging at the grin she gave him, "I wouldn't make it sound like a challenge." It could be so so much worse, but they were joking around anyway. He nudged at her when she said she would have more cubs, smiling more seriously now.
"Of course I would," he said, "That'd be fun, don't you think?"

Indu had been her hard cub, dealing with Indu's running away and being spoiled. Her second litter had been relatively easy until recently, some hiccups with dealing with class but nothing they couldn't handle. She wasn't too worried about having more, but there was something she could worry about.
"Would you want to 'plan' the birth?" Would they insure that their young were a higher class or leave it up to fate. It was supposed to be fate, but it wasn't a secret to anyone that cubs could be planned to be born during a favorable time when the great lion looked down. "We could leave it up to chance, whatever the Great Lion wills?"

"Hmmm."
He had expected consideration of such a possibility the last time they had cubs but they hadn't really planned or done anything right away and just let things happen. It was a little awkward bringing it up before so he hadn't worried about it.
"We've let things happen how they happen so far," he said, "If anything, high class cubs may have messed with some heads-- mainly Uli's." His mind had immediately jumped to the idea of planning for high class as that was the way he'd learned about it growing up.
"I don't think it matters," he said thoughtfully.

"As long as they are healthy that's all that'll really matter," Nerit nodded smiling. She thought rank was worth considering, but she was right, had they planned for high class cubs things could have been different.
"Whatever happens, happens," she nodded again and nudged him.

Unyezi leaned against his mate when things went quiet once again, just laying there in silent happiness. They would have more cubs, that would mean the precious silence and calm right now was to be enjoyed.. except that the sun was rising higher and even the nocturnal tendencies of the majority of the pride would not excuse them.
"We better get a move on," he said after a few minutes, glancing out of the den, "Do you have anywhere you need to be or shall we go for a walk and see who we come across?"

"Just a little longer?" She joked and pretended to close her eyes. He was right of course, it was officially time to start the day. No matter how much she wanted to stay and enjoy Unyezi's company.
"I don't have anywhere to be, Andy wanted help with something sometime in the evening, I think he's planning something. Let's see where the day takes us?" Nerit slid away from him stretching out the muscles in her shoulders and stood.
