Scaramouche Fandango

Big Wife

Sitting in the courtyard, Edmund Vesupla sipped at a cup of wretched coffee and watched his yellow jackets as they crawled on his skin. Such a dreadful environment for his poor friends! Really, such a dreadful environment for anybody. But he knew that God had put this test in his path for a reason. He could handle it. Could his hornets? So many people here tried to swat at them and hurt them. He could only take them outside on days like today, when the courtyard was empty. Today, it was deserted, save for a girl who... seemed to have flowers growing out of her body. There were others like himself. He'd even known that in the hospital, where they were changing him. This girl must clearly be the result of an experiment with a plant of some kind. A flowering shrub, maybe? She was certainly pretty and slim enough to be a plant. But far more interesting to him than her looks were the flowers.

"Wespe," he said to the hornet crawling on the bridge of his nose, "look." He held out his arm towards the girl with the flowers. "Take your friends and go." His hornets needed to feed. They needed pollen, and there certainly weren't many other plants around here. This poor girl might need all the help she could get. And wouldn't it be a good thing for him to help her flourish? Sitting back on the splintery bench, he sipped his bitter, lukewarm coffee and watched as his little friends flew out from his pockets and the folds of his clothing and made a beeline for the young woman. No need to introduce himself- this would be his Good Samaritan act for the day.

In the short time that Aiyana had been at the asylum, she had already determined that her favourite place was the courtyard. At the very least, the air was far more pleasant out here than it was in the musty building, and she could pretend that she wasn't stuck in a place for experiment rejects when she was outside.

At the same time though, she found that she was...not grateful exactly, but happy that she had had the pleasure of making friends among the patients. Before the experiment happened, back when she was "normal", she had been a rather meek and insecure girl, constantly afraid of the judgment of others. Here, however, the other patients seemed far more...welcoming. Maybe it was because everyone was "different" here, but whatever it was, Aiyana was happy with how her meetings had gone so far.

...This though, was unexpected. The fact was that the cherry tree girl was afraid of hornets didn't help matters when a small swarm made a beeline--no pun intended--for her. Stiffening, she pulled her arms in and backed away from the approaching hornets, her eyes wide. From the corner of her eyes, she caught a glimpse of a boy nearby so she swerved her head towards him, giving a quick, jerky motion to indicate the insects.

"W-why are they...!?"
