Character Name: Mallyc (M'lyc)
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation:Heterosexual
Craft/Rank:Apprentice Woodcrafter/Candidate
History: Mallyc--who tends to prefer being called Mal, just so you know -- has never met the person he can't talk in to a good time, whatever that happens to mean in the moment. That's what he claims, at least. Born and raised at Trine, Mal's got at least two siblings he knows about--one sister and one brother--and possibly more than that, when counting halves. His father is a brownrider, he knows that much. His mother helps to cook for the weyr.
And Mal? Mal spent most of his childhood planning trips into the forest and convincing his friends that it'd be fun, too. He was always coming up with adventures and saving the girls from the hidden dangers (purely imaginary, mind!) between the trees. Happier outside than in and more comfortable halfway up a tree than sleeping on the softest bed, it didn't surprise anyone that he chose to join the Woodcraft when he turned 15.
What surprised everyone was his mother taking sick, an event that called him back from the Hall early. She went down with a high fever and hallucinations, worrying him, his siblings and the healers, but made a significant recovery. The only lingering effect was the shaking of her hands. Not traumatic for most people, and something that she manages very well, but an ailment that cut straight to the heart of the would-be craftsman.
So he opted to stay home, rather than return to the Hall, after two Turns of study. He has been home for a full Turn and is aware that it means he may never walk the tables and earn the journeyman rank, he continues to practice his skills under the watchful eye of some of the woodcrafters assigned to the weyr. One day he intends to go back to the Hall with his completed project to try his luck, but until then, he's content to try out new designs of his own devising, to help repair weyrs and furniture and to enjoy the outdoors as he always has.
However, now that he's back in the Weyr full time, he's giving serious thought to Standing. He could ride a dragon and do it with style!
Description:Mallyc spends most of his time outdoors, so already olive-toned skin has been Sun-browned like an Istan, a fit to the pin-straight, jet-black hair, that he wears at shoulder length and finger-raked back with a hand when not tied back in a tail. He tends to have a very light line of beard tracing just the edge of his jaw, with no mustache. Whether he could grow one is anyone's guess, but he doesn't wear it if he can. His eyes are a rich caramel brown and usually full of mirth. He's in exceptionally good shape and when he's working, is often shirtless. Practicality, he'd call it. Others might say showing off.
Personality: First and foremost, Mal is a charmer. He has yet to meet someone that he can't compliment, for looks, for personality or for skill. Sometimes he even means the things he says, though it could be hard to take him seriously, when he's being sincere. He does have real feelings and real emotions tucked away behind his front of bravado, but getting to them would take someone with patience.
He likes to have a good time. He stays away from serious situations as much as possible. He has enough of that to worry about when it comes to his mother. Oh, and keeping an eye on his brother and sister, though he keeps his distance about that. He doesn't want the responsibility of being their caretaker, and certainly doesn't want them to feel like they're being hulked over so that they can't do anything. Still, if someone were to cause them grief, he'd be the first to step in. He's quick to the defense of anyone important to him, be they kin or simply a friend.
But mostly he's here for the party, so to speak. He has a taste for wines and meads is occasionally prone to overindulge. He's also a dedicated dicer and a fairly frequent brawler. He's not out to seriously hurt anyone, but he does like a good tussle and he knows how to take a punch. That said, he is fairly dedicated to his craft. Need a table shored up or a chair recaned, Mal's your man. He has made some fairly ornate tableware as a way to keep up his skills, and the rumor is that the project he wants to take back to the Hall is a boat, shaped, sealed, carved and made lake-worthy, all on his own. If something matters to him enough, that same sort of dedication and devotion will come out in him.
Other: If there were such things as Musketeers or pirates, Mallyc certainly would be one. Or both.
