A common derogatory slung at us politically liberal Christians is that we are "lukewarm".
Discuss and share why you are not "lukewarm".
Note: This is not to slam conservatives or traditionalists, please refrain from doing that.

I honestly don't get what lukewarm means when it comes to theology. In the real world I know lukewarm means kinda warm but kinda cold. .___.

Ravynne Sidhe I honestly don't get what lukewarm means when it comes to theology. In the real world I know lukewarm means kinda warm but kinda cold. .___. From what I've seen, it's either used to mock someone who they feel isn't devoting every living second to religion, or to describe someone who isn't totally devoted to the faith. I hate the term. And I often find myself bumping heads with anyone who seriously uses it.

To me a lukewarm Christian would be one who is dishonest with themselves. One who tries to justify wicked actions and behavior in the name of righteousness.
To give an example, one who says I need to kill these people in the name of God.
"It's not me passing judgment on you, it's God who is."

I think most who use it, use it out of context. I've already said my piece about what the context of the term is supposed to mean. I agree too with you both in that it gets me infuriated when I hear someone use that term to say someone isn't being religious enough in their eyes.

❝As an open independent I see this so often, and it drives me up the wall. Neither is right or wrong. Liberal Christians aren't wrong, they just hold different views.
Honestly I stay out of politics. I hate them, and political parties. sweatdrop ❞

I am certainly not lukewarm. Yes, I have many untraditional Christian views, but I believe them fiercely, largely based on my understanding of God. I may not have word for word scripture, but my inherit understanding of a loving God and of good and evil give me faith my beliefs are true. I'm supported by this when I study scripture in a historical way and discover what it was really saying. On multiple occasions I've had pieces of the puzzle fall together in my religion classes, and it's been wonderful.
I believe in gay rights an gay marriage passionately. I believe in the acceptance of all faiths by God, because I cannot imagine my loving God damning someone to hell simply because they worship him under and different name. I am not lukewarm, I have just come to another understanding based on my own experiences and understandings.

I always thought people who were "lukewarm" at least in the context of different scriptures were people/churches that were suppose to do God's work but due to some reason (lack of faith, personal ulterior motive, etc)weren't actually doing the works of God. After all, those of us who are supposed to be "on fire" are suppose to walk the walk not just hear/preach the talk. As children of God, we're supposed t be the published works of His word, and if we're not doing that and in the vein in which it was intended then we are in fact simply "lukewarm".
