I respect a lot people who educate themselves, and are engaging and interesting to speak to
  They, I don't know, have read the classic books, and can discuss issues and have opinions
  I think to myself, those are skills you can build
  But I can't be bothered? And still find myself watching crappy reality TV shows and wasting my time and stuff
  I'm not dumb but sometimes it frustrates me how inarticulate I can be

Change is difficult to come by, particularly when you don't have other people around you who could support that change. But you don't have to plunge yourself into it either. Just exploring new stuff once and a while can open a lot of windows.
