Makalo was resting in the grass, amongst a strange circle of trees, his hooves hidden under a pile of crunchy leaves. He was slowly eating a small loaf of bread with sugary power sprinkled on the top. He hummed softly as he chewed, looking up as a couple of birds flitted around the top branches of a nearby tree.

"Aren't you two happy," he said, smiling, taking another bite. After swallowing, he reaching for his canteen of fresh water, "It IS a nice day, isn't it? The sun is out, all the trees are made of gold...not a cloud in sight." He sighed, and smiled. "Beautiful."

Christian lowered his hood, allowing the illusion of a centaur to fade into his natural self as easily as the cooling breeze. He turned his head to the sky, sword bumping against his side while he slowly cantered about the area.

He ran his tongue across his cracked lips to keep them moist and continued on. In an almost melancholy fashion, he walked with his eyes lowered against the Fall beauty, but with a definite power in his steps. Unaware of the other, he pushed onward.

(I could not BREATHE for five minutes because of that title. XD)

((XD))

Makalo continue to nibble on his bread, until Christian got within earshot and his legs twitched. He instinctively wanted to flee, but he could sense a familiar aura on whoever was approaching and instantly felt back at ease. He watched the tree line curiously, taking another slow bite. He did very much like this spot, and didn't want to leave unless his assumption proved incorrect.

He had already taken a risk in allowing a common taur to see more than a glimpse of him...briefly he thought it would be best to hide, but general laziness got the best of him. He was comfortable. The sun was situated perfectly to warm his body. He would stay put.

Christian broke his focused walk with a snap of his head, hand zipping to the hilt of his sword on instinct. He felt the presence of the other before he saw him, which wasn't long after from his spot on the knoll. What he saw filled him with dread.

He flicked his tail bitterly as he weighed his options. To pass up the unitaur would mean hours of searching for a river that might not exist, and to stop would make them both targets. Since he was both dehydrated and exhausted, the answer came easily.

Slow and tense, he trotted down into the open area, passing a frown of disapproval to the lazing taur. "Greetings," he murmured. Then said strongly, "Can you tell me where I can find water?"

Makalo seemed unphased by Christian's arrival. He smiled at him and held his canister up, shaking it. "I have some here, if you would like it. The creek is a little bit of a walk from here. Not too far, but you may have some to tide you over."

He tilted his head, smiling sweetly, eyes turning into happy half moons, "The rest, if you like. I can always get more. Its just water, I promise." He watched it, keeping the flask held up, "Whats your name?"

Christian curled his lip and slowed to a halt, every piece of silver chiming to it's own tune. "Drink it first, and then I would be very thankful."

Despite his thoughts, he came closer to the other unitaur and sat next to him. "No offense to you, but one can never be too careful." He ran a hand through his hair with a displeased look. The chances of his opponent answering with a truthful name were slim, and he didn't plan on answering with either.

Makalo was puzzled by his response, but smiled all the same and took a sip, before offering it again. "I suppose being cautious is never a bad thing! My name is Makalo," he beamed at the other unitaur, slight dimples forming in his cheeks, "Whats your name? If you don't mind me asking. I know some people would prefer to be secretive about it. Though, if you do want to be secretive, please tell me a fake name so I have something to call you by."

Christian took the flask and tossed back a mouthful. Watching the other unitaur over the top of it was slightly unnerving. Not even Mei Lin was that happy. He slowly brought it down, wiping his mouth off with the back of his hand. "My name is my own, but you may call me Isaac." He handed the flask back. "Thank you for your assitance, Makalo. For your help, I should warn you that staying in the open as you are is asking for trouble."

"Isaac. I rather like that," he said, looking upwards with a smile. What Christian said next brought his gaze back down to earth, and he gave him a curious look, "Oh? Perhaps, but I have come here quite often since I was little, and you're the first person to stumble across me, as far as I can recall." He gave him a reassuring smile, "I appreciate the concern, but I feel safe here."

"Then you are a born fool," he stated bluntly, taking his eyes off Makalo for the first time to look at the ground where a lone worm was inching it's way up his scabbord. With a utilitarion flick, it was lost. Just like the worm, one day Makalo would be picked off as easily. "Safety is just a concept to trick the young into a false sense of security. It means nothing." After a momentary pause, he looked up, "Forgive my rudeness."

Makalo rubbed the back of his neck, looking thoughtful, "Typically I wouldn't easily forgive someone for calling me names, but you haven't gotten to know me and I can see you are jaded. So! I forgive you," he smiled widely, his ears turning forward as he lowered his hands again, cupping them together in front of him as he watched the other man.
