They were on a search. It was not the Search performed when the Weyr was in need of new Candidates, however. Oh no, this one was vitally more important; it may very well determine the fate of dragon kind. Well, not their lone search most likely, but the combined effort of the whole most certainly would.

Already it felt as if they had been combing this area for hours, and still no luck. If she and her current companion did not locate anything soon, they may well simply have to return home for the day.

Even if not today, we will surely discover something soon, Argenth said encouragingly, treading carefully as he too helped look for this mystery plant. At least by this point everyone knew quite well what it was supposed to look like.

Kleos was frustrated. She had set out on this hunt so convinced that they would stumble across the special herb almost right away. Her optimism, it seemed, had been misplaced. So far she hadn't seen any sign on the circular growths of spade-like leaves. She want to succeed. She wanted to impress the other rider present. Crystal - a beautiful name for a beautiful woman - was some turns her senior, not so much as to put her off, just enough to make her seem mature and alluring.

"Shame about the dragon," Moriath commented privately, "some poor green, or maybe even crimson missed on out her. Still, at least the male had enough sense to try to improve himself I suppose." And at least he was a silver rather than a blue; thank shells for some mercies, she doubted she could have put up with flying on such a close mission with a typical male.

"Mmmh... I suppose so." She didn't have time for her beloved dragon's disdain for males right now: right now she had a lady to impress, and a herb to find. "Crystal," she called to the other atypical rider, continuing to scan the ground herself, "do you see anything yet?"

"Not just yet," she replied calmly, blue eyes continuing their thorough search of the ground. Unlike her crimsonrider companion, Crystal hadn't given much thought at all to the other's presence, not seeing her as anything more than a mission partner. Once this day was over they would go back to their own thing and likely be paired up with different partners for the next search.

For some reason, Argenth couldn't help but get the feeling that Moriath wasn't all that fond of him. Well, no matter. She may well have simply been having a bad day, as well as been a bit put-off by their lack of success thus far. He had to admit though, her rider was quite beautiful as far as humans went. (Not as beautiful as His of course, but compared to most she was fairly close.)

"Nor myself," Kleos sighed slightly and ran her finger through her short hair, closing her eyes as she tried to quiz her two flitts about what they were seeing... The pair were playing quite some distance away. They were looking at plants, but she couldn't quite communicate to them that they needed to look for something very specific.

"I shall try to tell them," Moriath rumbled softly, her eyes going a fond soft blue as she reached out to communicate with the little beasts. She might not think a lot of male humans or dragons, but blue Ice had grown on her a lot, probably because flitts of all kinds were pretty dim regardless of sex. "I'm trying to tell our two flitts to look for the herb," Moriath deigned to confide in Argenth (lest he think she was just lazing around), including Kleos in her words too, "I don't think they understand, but I've told them to share with me what they're seeing. Watching what they're watching is probably the best thing for me to do, it allows us to cover more ground."

"Good thinking lovely," Kleos turned to smile at her dragon briefly before returning to her own search, "the more ground we can scan today the better." The light wouldn't last much longer; soon they'd have to head back to the Weyr, successful or not.

That is an excellent idea, Argenth agreed, his own eyes whirling a soft blue as he gave a pleasant nod to the other dragon. I will continue to search along with Mine in the meantime.

Crystal asked Hers silently what 'idea' of Moriath's he had been speaking of, and she had to admit that she was a bit impressed when he told her of the flit bit. Granted, she didn't think firelizards anywhere near reliable enough for this sort of thing, but the more eyes that were available to search, the better. "Certainly is an elusive thing, isn't it," she remarked with a small smile, glancing briefly over at where the other rider was searching. She remembered that it was best to speak at least on occasion for the sake of being courteous, even if she herself was just fine with the lack of conversation.

Kleos bit her lip, peering over at the sinking sun. "Rarer than a white dragon," she muttered, shaking her head slightly. "I don't know how much longer we can keep searching effectively with the light fading... I suppose we ought to return to the Weyr soon." She had so hoped to find the precious plant, and return triumphant to her peers and leaders. Apparently it was not to be, at least not today.

"The little ones haven't seen much either," Moriath heaved a deep sigh, "and now they've gone back to the Weyr to hunt tunnel snakes. I could order them back, but I don't suppose there's a lot of point today..." She wished she could blame their failure on the presence of a male, but really he hadn't hindered at all. When there was no plant to be found, there was just nothing to be done about it.

The rider was faintly amused by the white dragon analogy. If it were that rare then they might be in some trouble. "Most likely," Crystal replied, straightening up and dusting herself off a bit. "We can continue the search on the morrow. Perhaps another area might prove more fruitful."

The silver moved closer to his rider, touching his nose to her gently. We will find something in time, he said with assurity, bespeaking both His and Moriath. In the meantime, why don't we use our time left to enjoy the setting of the sun? Argenth rather did enjoy sunrise and sunset. Among many other beautiful things.

"Amusing," Moriath commented to Hers, "the male has a good suggestion." Then, to both her rider and Argenth she said; "I see no harm in it. I have had very little time to relax recently." Usually she would fight tooth and claw for her 'me time' but... Well, sometimes you had to put your duty above yourself, especially when you were a crimson. She had to set an example, after all. A bit of time to laze in the last of the sun, however, couldn't do any harm.

For her part, Kleos was not complaining at all; the sunset illuminated Crystal perfectly, enhancing her already considerable beauty. "I should be glad to search with you again tomorrow," she said with a smile and a nod, "it is truly a privilege to work with you, Crystal... Perhaps when we return, we should study some maps and choose where to head in the morning; it would be best to get as early a start as possible given the plant is easy to see in the morning dew... Relatively easy, anyway." She didn't imagine that mystweed was ever truly easy to find, but that only made it more important to grab what small advantages they could. Plus, she imagined that Crystal looked just as lovely at sunrise as she did at sunset, but that was a secondary consern.

Crystal had no issue with acceding to her dragon's request, as watching the sunset was something they often did together whenever time permitted it. "I agree; studying the maps may give us some better insight on where to search," the silverrider replied. "If we are fortunate, we may actually find our quarry. If not, then we shall simply have to keep looking until we do." It wasn't as if any of the Weyrs could really afford not to participate in the search. Locating and growing these plants was vitally important to the longevity of dragonkind as a whole. "For now, let us return. I am sure we will receive further orders tonight."
