Welcome to the official grand opening of our most ambitious contest ever! A contest that costs nothing to you but your time and dedication to doing what you already do: posting right here in this guild! Before we get into details, I need to say this first:
exclaim All of the funding for this contest is being provided by yours truly. As it is a free contest, this means that I'm earning all of the Gold being given away myself. If circumstances arise that make it impossible for me to keep up with the planned schedule, I may be forced to either scale it back or (hopefully not) suspend the contest altogether. Sadly, that's just life.
exclaim Speaking of life, there may (or rather, will probably) also come a (some) time(s) when I don't have the ability to come online everyday. In this situation, the prizes will still be given out at the earliest opportunity available; the only difference will be that the eligible users will increase since I won't be able to keep track of daily activity.
exclaim This is my first attempt at running an event so complicated. As there may be bumps in the road along the way, and since it's not costing you anything to win in this contest, I reserve the right to tweak the rules as I deem necessary. My main goal is to try to keep them as fair as possible.
That said, let's get into it!
Giveaway Guidelines: Daily Giveaway Everyday a list of all of the users who posted in the last 24 hours (rounded up to the beginning of the day) will be posted in this thread from most recent to least recent. The post will generate a random number from one to the number of users on the list (see the
contest beta thread for examples). The user whose number matches the randomly generated one will win 10K.
Weekly Giveaway This Giveaway will run exactly like the Daily Giveaway with the following exceptions: 1) The prize given out will be 100K. 2) Winners will be selected every Sunday. 3) All users who posted between Sunday and Saturday of the previous week will be eligible. 4) Each day that you've posted throughout the week will give you an additional "slot" to win.
Simplified example: Bob and Alice are the only two people who posted all week. Bob posted all seven days and Alice only posted one day. If the random number is 1-7 Bob wins. If it's 8, Alice wins. Bob will probably win.
Granted, with the Weekly your chances cap out at 7, unlike with the Monthly where it's virtually unlimited. And yes, there will be a Daily Giveaway on Sundays as well as a Weekly one.
Monthly Giveaway On the last day of the month, all users who have posted that month will be eligible to win 1,000K. Users who have been more active will have a higher chance of winning. To do this, users'
guild post count will be kept track of.
Simplified example: Bob and Alice have posted 30 times this month, but Eve has posted 60. A random number will be chosen from 1 to 4. Bob will win if the number is 1; Alice will win if the number is 2; Eve will win if the number is 3 or 4.
Actual situations will be more complicated than that, but you get the idea. That said, remember that
SPAMMING IS NOT ALLOWED in the guild.
UPDATE: As of 2011, if you do not have enough posts at the end of the month to stay in the guild (which is a scant 20), then you will not be eligible for this drawing. If you joined on the last day of the month and just haven't managed to get 20 yet, well...better luck next month.
Yearly Giveaway The mother of all our Giveaways. This contest will officially start on the first of January (starting in 2011) and run until the end of the year. Rules are similar to the Monthly Giveaway with an added twist: posts by other members within threads that you create will count towards your post count.
Simplified example: Let's say that Bob and Alice both post 1000 times this year. All of these posts are in a thread that Bob created. Since the number of posts in the thread is 2000, Bob's Yearly post contribution is 3000 instead of 1000.
The more popular the threads you make are, the higher your chances of winning will be. And yes, according to this set up, posts you make in your own threads essentially count double for your yearly total. So again, just so we're clear,
NO SPAMMING. One winner, selected in the same manner as the rest, will win 10,000K.
As a side note, since the Yearly numbers will take some fairly massive analysis and calculation, the actual winner may be selected several days (weeks, maybe? God, I hope not) AFTER the end of the year. Please be patient, it's 10,000K.
exclaim An important note: As soon as the winner for each contest is picked, I will send the trade.
If the trade isn't confirmed within a week of sending, and the member has NOT informed anyone that they will be absent from the guild during that time, the prize will be redrawn and given to another member. Just let us know if you plan to be away for a while, ok? It would be in your best interest, especially if you know it's going to be around, say, the 1st of the month or the 1st of the year.
I think that covers everything. If there's anything I forgot, or if anything changes, I will update this post and make sure the thread title reflects the date of the most recent revision.
