It was a good den.
Akamu, for all the time he'd since spent in his new pack's lands, had certainly taken a long time choosing a place for himself to call 'home sweet home'. When he finally did, though, he thought he'd done well. Not quite hidden in the edge of the forested area, nearby the lake, but not totally exposed, thanks to the thickets that covered a goodly area around and in the forest.
Currently, the earthy wolf was warming himself on the grass just outside the edge of the thickets. He liked the snow that the freelands were burdened with as much as the next wolf, but he was glad that his brother's pack was located near to the ocean- and thus warm weather.
He had been sunning himself for so long, now (only an hour or so, really), that he'd fallen into a sort of sleepy daze, not really paying attention to what was around him.

Akamu started when Lavena nuzzled him, having been completely unaware of her approach. When he came to his senses - darn sleep inducing sun- he returned the greeting with a friendly nuzzle of his own, and a shy smile. If wolves could blush, he'd be doing it. But refusing to admit that he was.
"Thank you... I like it." And I am glad that you approve of it as well.
He gathered his legs underneath himself in a proper laying position, having been unconciously sprawling before.
"Have you been able to find a den, yet?" The small smile remained on his face, as it always seemed to do when Lavena was nearby. And, obviously enough, he was curious about her and how she was taking to the land here. He hoped dearly that she was finding it agreeable.

His smile broadened momentarily at her declaration. "I am glad that you like it so much here." I am glad you do not want to leave.
In truth, he didn't consider himself responsible for everything Lavena thought she owed him for- he had merely helped her when he could. And he had been infinitely pleased that she'd wanted to join the pack in the first place.
In response to her second comment, he chuckled good naturedly. "All of the glory? I am not so sure of that. But I have managed to procure a good deal of it, have I not?" His tone was light- he was actually half-teasing her!
If the earthy wolf noticed her lack of comfort, he didn't comment on it. What was her business was her business, until she decided to share it with him. Even if it pained him that she would be uneasy.

"It is." He smiled warmly, remembering realizing that yes, Hige was his brother, and wanted him to join his pack. It had been a good feeling.
"I.." Akamu was caught off guard, faltering in the answer he had been going to give Lavena in response to her question. Her eyes..
He blinked once, twice, and the look, that strange look that made his heart beat faster was still there, in Lavena's eyes. What is she thinking of, to make her look like that? And at me, no less? He, too, was given cause to be thankful for his pelt, because he began blushing, too.
The tone of her voice wasn't helping, either.
Although he would never admit it- it was rude to assume she felt enough about him to look at him that way (she must be thinking of someone else.. .__. )- Akamu found himself hoping that he was the reason for Lavena's strange new behavior. Shame that he didn't know that he was.
He coughed lightly, to cover his stutter. "The ladies have not been treating me at all, I am afraid." He ventured another grin. "I have not met another female of this pack except for you. I have heard that there is at least one, but she is mated." He didn't mention the recent disappearance of Hige's mate, whom he also hadn't had a chance to meet.
"And how have you been finding the... opposite sex?" He /had/ to ask the question. It was polite to ask a question back, yes, but he wanted to know the source of the... look of affection in her eyes.
It had been.... no, that's not right. Akamu himself was only halfway into realizing his own feelings. He found himself remarkably jealous towards whatever male who had caused Lavena's look, and remarkably hopeful that it was himself, but he had not yet come to terms with the fact that the look in her eyes was the same look he had when he thought about her. It was amazing how stupid he could be about his own feelings.

Though her half sigh, half yawn puzzled Akamu, he forgot about it when she spoke up again.
"That is too bad.. They are all very nice wolves." There was a bit of real regret in his voice about that. As few wolves as he had met from this pack, he had had extensive conversations with at least two, and ongoing contact with his brother. That regret faded, though, when she smiled wider at the mention of pups.
Which breifly triggered an absurd (he tried to think) daydream about pups of his own and Lavenas (which triggered a blush, thank goodness for the fur) which he quickly shook out of his head. He had no right to think of that.
"So.." He prompted, having successfully brought himself back to the current conversation. He tilted his head a bit in curiosity.

Was there ever a worse time for that question? Akamu felt his face heat up again (and he'd just gotten rid of the first blush!), as he stared at her.
"I.. Well, there is the matter of having a female," A certain, beautiful female, who was right there...and out of reach "agree to be my mate... but I would very much like to be a father." And what sort of wolf would I be if I liked the young pups I meet, but don't desire any of my own? Though... why that question? And that Look had returned. Could it mean that..?
He studied her face carefully now, though he was not beyond noticing the nervous tension gathering in her legs, and her paws. So nervous, to as him about puppies?
Blink.
He was almost too surprised to realize what that could mean. Almost.
Slowly, he returned her question. "What about you? Do you desire young of your own?"

Her litany of requirements in a mate only made him more certain (the last one, doubly so) that she was referring to him. A fact that, despite his reserved nature, made him feel elated. His smile reflected this admirably.
"I, too, have a preference about who my mate would be.." I will respond to her in her own code... I do not want to be rude and abrupt about this. "She must be a very kind wolf, herself.. a born mother, for I do not think there could be a better match for me.. " He knew his fatherly ways, and didn't mind that others found it as obvious. "And I would like for her to have striking blue eyes, to match her dusky coat."
I have been too obvious, maybe... but she has all but told me that she wants me for her mate. I cannot but do the same. Especially because I...

He bent his head over her own, nuzzling what side of her neck he could reach affectionately.
"There would be no better."
A contentment rose up in him now, different from the complacent satisfaction he'd had of his life so far (and it hadn't been a bad one, he thought, for all that had happened). His tail wagging slowly from side to side, he nuzzled her again.
"Do you agree.. that they should spend their lives with one another? Be mates?" He listened carefully now, even though he thought he knew the answer for certainsure.
