If you're critiquing, quote certain passages if you mean something specific to point out so I can find it easier. I apologize terribly for the length, I'm pretty sure most of it is ramble - most of the first post was written late in the night, so there's probably failures there. 8D;

AMITYVILLE ACADEMY ENROLMENT FORM

Name: Malak Macero
((Malak = “angel” in Arabic ;; Mal itself is “bad” in various languages ;; Macero = “reduce, to soften, to torment, to weaken, invalidate” in Latin))
Nicknames: Mal, Mally, Mal-Pal ;; he likes nicknames :3
Gender: Technically ambiguous given the nature of his species, but tends to assume males more
Age: 16ish in appearance

Faction/Race Ghost / Dopplegänger

Personality: Let me start with a disclaimer: there’s something wrong with Malak. Deeply wrong.

There’s “loner wolf who doesn’t know how to connect to people”. Then there’s Malak.

There’s also “that one kid who’s pretty much happy all the time”. Then there’s Malak.

Finally, there’s also “the smiling villain, the gentleman sociopath, or that one really off-kilter dude with a charming, yet ax crazy smile”. Guess who’s there?

Three generalizations aren’t enough to describe him, though, not nearly enough. Being a dopplegänger is to be “a tangible double of a living person that typically represents evil”, according to Wiki. Considering the billions of people his ancestors and predecessors can take the form of, and the variable definitions of evil itself, an effective dopplegänger must have a fluid personality or one that has minimum “unique” traits that don’t hamper their natural ability. Knowing that, Malak is broken down like this:

Treats? Toys? 8D
Malak is very childlike in his mindset and terribly easy to please (well, so long as it’s aimed towards getting what he wants at the moment). Things are very, very simple to him, as all things in his view are categorized into two groups: treats (things that can be eaten) and toys (things that can’t be eaten or /could/ be eaten, but are not suggested). By that logic, unless a student is made of candy or something, he or she is nothing more than something to play with, for better or for worse. Granted, Malak is more inclined to the “PLAYTIMEYAY” and is known to think battles are just fun games with FEAR; for the student’s sake, he or she’d better hope it stays that way for him. At least when he thinks it’s all fun and games, he kinda stops after a while when the battle’s over and thanks the person for a great time.

Managed to piss him off though? Oh dear . . . That’ll be covered below.

“Devil never even lived.”
Malak loves words, especially palindromes like the one above. Just would eat them up if they were tangible things. He’s just mystified and in awe of how powerful a simple word is! Since he can’t eat these magical things (SADNESS), Mal settles to think of them as the next best thing: TOOOOOOYSSSSS. He indulges in wordplay, which mostly involves the use of palindromes and palingrams, and the occasional riddle. Or sometimes he just spouts random nonsense for the sake of hearing the words next to each other.

Multi-faceted
The core of Malak’s persona is like looking into various funhouse mirrors: some are funny, some more disturbing – all are in some way or shape disproportionate, and that’s Malak’s biggest problem. He doesn't know when to friggen stop sometimes. A few examples:

xxxxxx~ Good Intentions or Closet Creeper?
Oh sure, he’s pretty good about meeting people; part of it is linked to his FEAR’s growth, the other part curiosity about others. Everyone is unique in some way, and to keep up-to-date repertoire of possible forms to use, Mal goes out of his way to meet others. And sometimes he prefers some over others for whatever reason. The problem comes if he prefers prefers you – as in has a level of mutual liking that normal people would call a “friendship”. Then he tends to seek that person out at his pleasure, and it doesn’t matter what that person’s doing; he’s so gonna be participating too. It’s a girl going to the bathroom when he wants to play chess? No problem! He’ll just shift into a girl too and follow you in to keep you company. That’s what girls like, right? Wait, they don’t occupy the same stall either . . . ? Huh.

Yes, he’ll happily wait either outside your door or somewhere in your room (if you let him in, or give him a chance to slip in) while you do your homework first. No, he won’t be denied his game of chess so long as he’s in the mood to do it. He’ll remind you that because you two are this “friends” thing, you should be doing things together, right? Riiiiiight? If he’s bothersome, the best way to get rid of Malak is to have some sort of Treat on hand: feed him one, say something about doing whatever he wants later, and he’ll be satisfied by the mini-meal enough to let you alone . . . this time.

xxxxxx~ Who the heck called me meanie?! I WILL SMASH THEIR F****ING HEADS OFF.
Higher-level insults seem to fly over Malak’s head for some reason. Maybe he actually understands them and just doesn’t decide to react. This wouldn’t explain why he flies off the handle when it comes to kindergarten-level stabs, though. Call Mal s**t and he’ll giggle at how funny the word is. “Poo” is just as hella funny, but if he’s gotten any level of irritation prior to being called as much, even if it’s mild, he’ll decidedly go and leap upon the dastardly denizen who dares to dirty his name so and just go apeshit!

This is usually restricted to momentary lapses of judgment. The worst-case scenarios are still further down.

xxxxxx~ Makin’ Mountains Out of Molehills
Much like how he inversely reacts to harsh insults with laughter and piddly ones with AMFGRAEG, things of stressed importance (such as studying for a test, a major game he needs to be at, etc.) end up kinda low on the list if enough small things get in the way first. Say Mal’s taking a test that determines whether he passes first year or not; if there’s a flickering light right above him, he’ll be incapable of concentrating properly till it’s fixed and won’t write a single thing down till he’s either moved or the damn thing stops being ON OFF ON OFF ON OFF. If he’s got a set schedule for the day and something either has to be canceled, or moved about, or otherwise changed, he’ll be huffy and resist until someone either Treats him or offers a good enough compromise; oddly inflexible when it’s things he want!

Friend or Fiend?
So it’s been stated that he likes to meet people. Is he good about making “friends” though? Depends. On his end, Malak isn’t capable of seeing someone beyond his little “Treat-Toy” world-view system; it’s almost psychotic in that he’s just not viewing others as actual people, just things to interact with and then hopefully later copy for his own advancement. And when certain toys start to really, really bug him, well . . . That’s when you start “cleaning out the toy chest”.

Oh sure, it’s pretty easy to keep on his better side. Just feed him, call him nice things (he’s partial to angelic-themed pet names as well as Mal-Pal), or give him fun things to do/participate in.

But if you hit the s**t list, you hit it hard, my friend. You see, just as Malak sometimes goes and stalks his “friends”, so too does he stalk his “foes” – just more covertly and with less patience, and with far darker intentions. It’s there that his sociable skills just seem to plain disappear, reverting to something more beastly and instinctual. He’ll quietly make note of a target’s schedule, where they tend to go, where there room is – and once he or she is alone, he’ll pounce and exact his revenge one way or another. Methods range from impersonating someone they definitely don’t want to see, to right out impersonating them, to even ignoring the use of his FEAR and flat out doing fist-to-fist – assuming those are what his arms look like. One of his favorites is to assume his regular form and stay just within the corner of vision, disappearing once the person turns about to see who’s following them.

Well actually that last one he likes doing to anyone for giggles, but he reeeeeally enjoys creating paranoia for those who did him wrong. It’s possible to get back onto Malak’s good side, but it’ll take a lot a Treats or Toys to do so.

Dull-witted or Hiding Intelligence?
Usually keeping close to some figure of authority or power, Malak is portrayed as a “right hand man” of sorts. He does what someone doesn’t want to do, even if it’s incredibly stupid, and then he hopes for a nice reward like a puppy that fetches the bone you throw him. Consequences? Aren’t those a type of cake? Mmm, cake . . . But there are times where he shows an eerie level of intelligence, where he doesn’t speak like a grammatically challenged lolcat or act childish.

HIS MASKS
Do. Not. Touch. Never would he allow someone else to take one just to look at even. He’ll be more than happy to hold one up for you to look at, but hold yourself? Absolutely not. Not that the masks’ power would be accidentally triggered, but they’re his most precious possessions. The equivalent of him giving someone one of his masks to try on is the same as a mother putting her newborn child in the paws of a bear – you just don’t know what’ll happen, but like hell will you risk it.

If someone does manage to acquire one of his masks, he’ll know. He’ll know. Each one created is linked to his FEAR and will be tracked down. Depending on his mood, he’ll either lightly gut you or make a promise to always stalk the hell out of you until you somehow even out the debt. And that creepy feeling of being watched just doesn’t do well for one’s health over time . . .

Why did they enroll at the academy? He didn’t enroll like most. Nah, he got transferred to the academy from Hades High; too much of a problem child. A few of the parents were concerned his antics were detracting from their spawn's academics. He doesn’t seem to mind either way, though, and thinks it’s hilarious someone decided he’d be better off in a different school at all. Well the idea of an education is laughable to begin with, but hey: new playground! new faces to copy! new toys!!

Possible Club Interests: Drama Club, FEARleading (IT LOOKS SO FUN TO YELL THINGS AT PEOPLE AND THEM NOT GET MAD), Poe-tree Club, will expound upon as ideas come to mind.

Brief Description of Dopplegängers Ew history…
On Wiki ;; On Monstropedia

Dopplegänger comes from the German words Doppel (double) and Gänger (walker) and literally means "double-goer" (someone who walks the same way you do). It’s often incorrectly written as just doppleganger. Really though, who wants to reach for the symbols tab all the time? Me, apparently.

Dopplegängers are associated with sinister bilocation (the ability of an object or person to be in two distinct places at the same time); the most common form of this is seeing someone just within peripheral vision that looks like you but in an area where there are no mirrors. People have associated dopplegängers with the “evil twin” concept, as some descriptions say they are ghosts who take on the appearance of someone to cause mischief and general confusion for friends and family. It’s regarded as a bad omen to see one’s own dopplegänger or that of a friend or relative, as it often heralds serious illnesses or death for whoever the dopplegänger has the form of. Dopplegängers are known to have no shadows or reflections like certain vampires too. Others powers that have been attributed to them are putting bad advice/thoughts in their victim’s minds as well as haunting the original person so long as they walk the earth.

There’s a neato sciencey thing in the Wiki article that attributes the Dopplegänger Phenomenon to something to do with the left temporal brain stimulation, but I won’t get into that. There’s also been documented accounts of people seeing their counterparts, the most famous one being Lincoln’s account of seeing himself prior to being assassinated.

More on Malak First post was getting big 8D;

Natural Ability:
As a ghost: Intangibility/Invisibility

As a dopplegänger: Malak can take on the visage of anyone he meets nigh instantaneously. Unlike the normal dopplegänger, however, Malak’s ability seems a little . . . fragmented. Unfocused. He currently has to channel his ability into masks he creates through his FEAR, patience, and much painting. The power to change into that person only activates when he wears the mask. Should the mask be taken off or broken in the middle of the fight, Malak reverts to his regular form and (depending on the mass of the character he had taken on prior), he might become a little disoriented for a turn. Without his masks Malak is only capable of partial transformations as a first year – often his arms or legs at most, but not both at the same time.

Fear: While in that person’s form, he can mimic their FEAR power and natural ability, and use both/either against them. There’re more drawbacks to this than there are perks, though. For instance, unless he has otherwise had experience with similar FEARs prior to the battle, he’ll be spending a lot of his time in the fight just adjusting to the form. The copied FEAR’s power is also halved until Malak does so (anywhere from a whole battle for very confusing ones to two turns for the simpler ones). The most power Malak can accomplish depends on what year he’s in, not the year of his opponent; copying a third year’s powers only grants him the ability to use them, not the dexterity and strength that comes with it. The use of that FEAR, though, might differ depending on how he treats it.

Future FEAR/Ability developments? (Mostly written so I won't forget to look it over later)
Being able to take on one person’s appearance and mix it with another’s (possibility up to 3 once at final year, each at a third of their full power?), faster adaptation between shifts, less dependency on masks until he no longer needs them, ability to slip in bad thoughts of the person he’s impersonating if he touches them, ability to place masks on people and make them transform briefly (thereby throwing them off depending on how different the new form is?)?

Emblem Ideas: Gonna work on this bit along with the actual references asap. 8D;

History: GONNA ALSO FILL OUT SOON'S I CAN.

FAQ

1. Who is Haku? You mentioned him once in the form.
Haku is another quest I hope to work on asap once I do the final touches on Malak. He is the "mafia boss" to Malak's "mindless but dangerous bodyguard". They met at Hades High and formed an odd partnership. I'll link to his quest once I get it running~ And yes, it's the same guy from the Train Event I played as. 83

2. Where do the masks come from?
I'ma get on that description son as I can! Malak makes his own masks with blood, sweat, tears, and FEAR; the former three probably aren't from him though. >>;

So far there are only a few things I'm wondering about:

1. other then stealing or touching one of his masks, how does one get on Mal's s**t List? What really sets him off to be such a creeper?

2. I don't know if you plan on doing this, or already have and I just fail and didn't notice/read it, but are you going to explain more about who his "Boss" Haku is? I only saw the name mentioned once, along with the fact that he's a boss of Malak of some sorts, so it was intriguing but also confusing.

3. How does Malak obtain his masks? What aspects of someone or such does he have to become a pro at to get one, does he make them, how exactly do they work etc? Does he need to wear a mask to impersonate someone, or can he just impersonate anyone without a mask... and in which case, what do the masks serve again? x_x sorry... now I think I'm even further confusing myself. Hopefully you understand what I'm trying to get at.

Other then those things thus far, I think he's extraordinarily thought out :3. I love how he's ...psycho, but not the blood-thirsty OMGBBQKILLYEW type. It's always the happy ones you need to look out for....

(and because I have no shame: any crits on my Quest for Casimir are greatly appreciated <3 ).

Thanks for taking the time! I really do love the happy psychos more. 8D

1. Like mentioned above, if he happens to be just a little off center when called rather childish names, his temper will set off like a firework: really bad at first, then fizzling out into nothing. I account this to the fact that he's really not good with regulation and moderation of his emotions - while he keeps a smile up constantly, on the inside he's never quite stable. He has no true identity and no standard to live to currently, so it sorta . . . fluctuates? I need to add more about that identity crisis of a copy cat in, so this is a good question.

2. Yes indeed! I forgot to also mention he's another of my quests I need to put up once Malak stops sucking my time up. Haku's the persona I adopted for the Train event, and he grew on me from there. Hopefully I will be able to link to that quest from here soon. Relationship-wise, he's the stable "handler" that Malak attached himself to while at Hades High. They're almost like the mind and muscle pair.

3. I also need to add info about his masks. He actually creates them from start to finish: the process in my head is something like he makes the maches, paints the face of the person in question, and adds his FEAR to it so that its power can be called upon. Right now Malak has to have a mask on in order to fully change into that person (as I felt that being able to change fully at will from the get go was both a little teetering towards godmodding and more boring since I wouldn't get to watch him progress with time). Basically, this is my excuse to make arts of the masks. 8D; If he doesn't have the mask, he can't change into the person completely. Without masks, he can only do partial changes (like mentioned above, either both hands or both feet).

No fear for no shame, I wish I had that attitude sometimes. I'll see what I can add to yours!

I gotta say, I absolutely love his personality.

Just one really quick thing that I noticed. He doesn't have a description (or I'm blind). I know that Dopplegangers don't exaclty have a "set" form, but he's going to need cert art, right?
