Gaia Name: Jiora

Character Name: Jakli

Race: Beastial

Class: Apprentice to her tribe's shaman/healer.

Subtype: Mammal; specifically feline (primarily generic housecat ancestry).

Element: Light

Gender: Female

Age: Sixteen (Adult)

Family: Father: Camri. Camri is roughly fifty years old, though his actual age is unknown. He wandered into the tribe he now calls home when he was around twenty years of age, and he's never spoken to anyone of his past - not even his mate, Taru. Still, he's a warm and friendly fellow, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who seems to need it. He's fiercly loyal and is known for holding bitter grudges against those who harm his friends or family. He's rather lazy though, only helping out when neccesary, and has hopes of becoming a dragonmaster. Shame he's yet to so much as catch scent of one. He's rather tall - roughly six feet - and muscular, a good build for a hunter, and has long, golden-blonde fur with cool blueberry eyes. His element is earth.

Mother: Taru. Taru is fourty-seven years old. She was born into one of the most respected families of her tribe, though she has always lived in the shadow of her elder sister, Sonia. She tends to be very quiet and submissive, though will jump to the defense of her mate and daughter when the situation calls for it. She is best defined as a home-maker - one who stays with the main tribe to cook what the hunters bring back and keep an eye on the children. Taru's on the willowy side, just bordering on being petite. She's only a few inches shorter than her mate, adding to her slender appearance. Her eyes are a soft sky blue, and her fur is short and primarily dark brown with a few stripes and spots of lighter shades here and there. Like her sister, her element is fire.

Cousin/Best Friend: Magron. Magron is seventeen years old and is the eldest child of Sonia and her mate, Luk. He's a bit on the shy side and seems to have difficulty showing his emotions, and some say it may be because of his element - ice. Who would want to approach an icy sort of person, after all? He's most comfortable around his family and becomes rather agitated when they aren't around. He's always had a friendly and competitive streak where his cousin is concerned. Currently he's an apprentice hunter to his mother. He's no taller than his father and has a short coat of light brown fur with a single spot of black on his right ear. His eyes are blue to match his mother's, though they seem to have a wary feel to them.

Apprenticed to: Quin. Quin is one hundred and fourty years old, and she's begun looking for someone to take her place when she passes on. Her element is wind, and she's the tribe's current shaman, and an experienced healer to boot. The elder set her sights on Jakli when she was a child and has only recently begun her training of the girl. Quin has a gray coat of fur the shade of furious storm clouds, and it's beginning to become peppered with paler gray and white in her old age. Her eyes are a pale shade of green - like pale wasabi paste.

History: Jakli's past is nothing special, really. She was born into her tribe and has never ventured far from them, save for the occasional trip to a nearby town to pick up supplies. She never once accompanied the hunters on any outings as most of the young of the tribe tend to do, despite her cousin's requests that she come along. Instead, she chose to stay behind and helping her mother and a few others look after the younger children.

When she was around six years old, Magron challenged her to a race around the outskirts of the tribe's current settlement. She agreed eagerly and the pair set off on a mad dash to reach the finish line. Jakli, however, became distracted along the way. She'd come across a dieing bird. It couldn't have been out of the next very long - not nearly large enough to be fully-grown. There didn't seem to be any method of saving the poor creature either. Its right wing had been badly mangled somehow. She scooped it up and rushed off to find her uncle anyway. Certainly, he'd be able to heal it, right?

Her uncle wasn't around though. He'd been called away to tend to a wounded hunter and likely wouldn't be back for several hours. Noting her daughter's distress, Taru sent the girl to the tribe's shaman, Quin, instead. Upon reaching the shaman, however, Jakli was informed that the bird could not be saved. There was nothing Quin could do, save to ease the creature's pain before it died.

Jakli insisted on staying with the bird so that it wouldn't feel lonely. Reluctantly, Quin allowed her to stay. In the few hours that passed, she answered various questions about what she was doing to help the bird, and she told a good number of old tales to keep the girl somewhat distracted - primarily ones involving a peaceful view of death. The girl left a short while after the bird died, but only after making Quin promise she'd give it a 'proper burial'.

Several weeks later, Quin came across the girl repeating vaguely muddled versions of the tales to her friends. The stories may have been remembered incorrectly, but the way the girl was telling the stories held the attention of the other children nearly as well as they did when Quin told them. Since then, Quin has taken quite an interest in the girl.

Jakli never seemed to think anything of it. She enjoyed the occasional stories that Quin shared with her, always eager to sit and listen to the elder. It wasn't until she became an adult and Quin asked her to become her apprentice that she realized why the woman spent so much time around her. Quite excited, she agreed easily and has been studying with her intently for the past year.

Present: There's nothing new, really, to report for Jakli. She's still living with her birth tribe under the instruction of Quin. She's moved out of her parents' tent and into one of her own, which is most often set up just beside Quin's. She still visits her family daily though - especially Magron. The two of them can still often be found racing round the encampment or seeing who can fit the most bits of meat into their mouth at one time.

This isn't to say she slacks off on her studies though. She actually throws herself into them quite eagerly - at least, she does for the shamanism. She's not nearly as interested in becoming a healer, but she still makes a bit of an effort to learn.

Jakli and Quin both have been running low on medicinal supplies recently, and a few of the herbs they need don't grow naturally in the area the tribe is currently camped in. Quin has sent Jakli to one of the small settlements near Terralusk to purchase the neccesary items. While wandering about said settlement, she heard about the upcoming festival. True, she'd known about it before, but it had slipped her mind that it was so close at hand.

She made a brief trip back to the village to drop off the herbs, managing to get away from Quin long enough to snatch up her stash of money. She's been saving for the better part of a year, and what better place to go spend it all than at a festival? Besides, her father's birthday - he says it's his birthday, anyway - is coming up, and she knows he's been wanting some new ornamental daggers. Magron managed to ruin the latest pair when he mistakenly borrowed them for a hunting expedition. Hopefully she'll manage to find some worth buying in the city.

Now, it's off to the festival for her.

Personality: Like her father, Jakli is a friendly, easy-going sort of person. It generally takes a lot to get her riled. Things that would send another person into a rage will roll right over her or only mildly irritate her. She simply doesn't see the point in getting bent out of shape over things. She has to share this world with everyone else, so she figures that she might as well do her best to simply go with the flow, so to speak.

She enjoys helping people as well. Again, this falls into her 'go with the flow' attitude. It's better to help people than clash with them in fights. From her point of view, it only puts unnecessary strain on both parties when they could've been using their energy to work with each other and reach a compromise. Her drive to help people is part of why she agreed to become a healer as well as a shaman.

The other part would be that she simply didn't want to argue with Quin and her family about it. Jakli has a strong desire to avoid arguments and conflicts at all costs, so she tends to be rather submissive like her mother. She'd much prefer to simply keep the lore of her tribe and pass it down to an apprentice of her own some day, but voicing that opinion would only cause arguments and such in her opinion, so she kept quiet and went along with her family's wishes. The only exception to this is when she's correcting someone's error, as that pulls at her desire to help people.

Jakli also loves approval. She's known to become uneasy or agitated when people are displeased with her, so she'll often go out of her way to make sure people have no reason to be upset with her. This can, on occasion, result in some rather awkward situations. (Particularly when she's trying to please two people with conflicting desires.) Generally, though, she manages to keep any awkward feelings to a minimum by dealing with people on an individual basis rather than in groups. Still, if those two - or more - people were to speak the outcome would certainly not be pleasant.

Appearance: Jakli is around five and a half feet tall, give or take a few inches. Her weight is undisclosed under threat of death, though, at a glance, it doesn't seem to be much more than one-thirty or so. Her build is just a bit on the thick side, and it's difficult to tell at a glance whether it's muscle that lies beneath her pelt or not. The curves of her body rather average - not painfully obvious, but not so subtle that one must look hard to see them.

Her fur is long and primarily blonde in color - roughly the shade of desert sand - with the occasional splotch or stripe of dirt brown; the most notable being a spot on her right shoulder shaped like a crude crescent moon. If she has any true hair, it's rather difficult to separate it from her fur. Though...the fur atop her head does seem a bit longer than it is elsewhere if one looks close enough.

She has grass-green almond shaped eyes with a slight upwards slant toward the outer corners. She seems to have a rather gentle look to her face, though it's difficult to make out any distinctive features beneath the mess of fur. It's obvious that her face is shorter and rounder than most, adding to the gentle impression as well as giving her a somewhat childlike appearance.

When she's with her tribe, she tends not to bother with any clothing. Her fur does a decent enough job of keeping her covered. However, her father has always insisted that she don some form of clothing when visiting a city, so she keeps a simple dress made of deerskin around for such excursions. There is a slit several inches long cut in the back that she can fit her tail through with minimal discomfort. The sleeves on it are rather short - more like thick straps than sleeves, really - and the hem stops just above her knees.

At Festival. Entry One.
I have been here a few days now. There is so much to see! There is a woman who sings in the square. Her voice is very pretty, but I have not met her yet. I have not really met anyone yet.

I did find a very pretty necklace for sale the other day though. I think it is pretty anyway. It has a leather cord and a pretty blue stone for a pendant. There were gold ones, but I think those are too expensive for me. Maybe I can come to the festival again next year and buy one. Momma would look very nice with one, I think.

Maybe I should buy one for her anyway.
