I’m sure you guys have heard of NaNoWriMo, in the very least in passing. Writers spend the month of November striving to s**t 50,000 words of novel out, focusing on quantity over quality, with the intention of later doing heavy editing and revising. I was thinking of implementing this in the guild, though adjusting the concept to multi-chapter fanfiction based in guildverse, perhaps with a smaller word count goal (maybe 25k or even 30k?) to inspire more guildverse fic.
I’ll be trying this out in October, setting a personal goal for 20k, and then again in November, hopefully with a higher goal, but I hope to implement this as an annual guild event in March.
Thoughts? Anyone else think they can write 20,000 words for a single story and not tear their hair out?

I'ma set myself for 35k for October, I think.
It's an awesome idea and it'll be fun to do it since it's dedicated towards guild related things.
I've never been motivated enough to do the actual NaNo, but this sounds fun. Not to mention all the entries we'll have come next March.

whee Well you have like three days to plan!
Any ideas as to what you'll be writing? I'm thinking of doing a story on Bianca in the first war, around the time she went batshit and raped Severus. I've always wanted to write that atmosphere and really delve into her head. Plus, October is Halloween, and what's more Halloween-oriented than batshit/sexy vampires?

I'm either gonna do something that explains where Mulciber has been, like starting from right before the Battle of Hogwarts, during it and after...
Or I'm gonna do something Reg-centric like background stuff or either when he was a little kid or stuff from the very beginning of the second war.
Or something pertaining to Dameon Prince's background before he traveled because a nice thorough background story would be cool for him since I plan on playing the hell out of that character.
Or my Harry's background up until he traveled and him first popping up and also his first meeting of Cho in the Traveler's office.
There's a lot I could do. Xp Any suggestions?
Also, I'd love to get more in depth shiz with Bianca.

Yeah, it was a toss up between Bianca and Micah and I figured Bi deserved first dibs since she's one of the only characters I've written for since before we started dating. Back when she was a sacrificial lamb for the Death Eaters xd and I only used her as a characterization tool for Snape.
I would be pretty interested in any of the three, but I think I would go with Dame Prince's background first, and if you're interested in trying again in November, I'd pick Mulciber's extended vacation. I think you should save a long sit with Reg for March, since I'll be in such a Reg mood myself; I'll be going for 50k of Hermione and Reg during OotP era.
The reason my vote is for Dame Prince is because you'll have an entire environment to build, and a very specific plot to work with yet with plenty of room to move around; with Mulciber's time away it seems like there's room, but not a ton since not much of whatever happened has stuck with him.

The only thing with Dame that I'm like "ehhhh" about is the fact it is like a clean slate, so I'll have to figure it out before writing it all. I can go through like twenty scenarios in a day, so I guess I just have to worry about making my damned mind up. xP
I'm super ready to read some Bianca background, sexy goth vampire chicks are the best. Not to mention the nice little insight of her clique during the first war and how she coped with all of it.
Are you going to go up through her pregnancy with London too, or?

Yeah, the focus of the story is on her friendship with Mulciber and the tension between herself and Snape, with highlights of her affair with Bella. Her rape of Severus is the story's main plot point - I'm hoping to address it around 13,000 words in, with London's birth becoming the end of the fic.
I'll be writing up my story plan tomorrow, so I know what's ahead of me as I enter into writing.
Well, if Dame Prince isn't going to be the focus, then Mulciber's extended disappearance would make a fine read n_n I just miss your original Dame is all...

I really want to do this. And I am really excited to see both of you guys do this as well, ohman. For now I think I'll just set a goal of 10k words, because even that right now seems like a baffling amount.
There's a lot I could do. Josh's main back story is sketched in but a lot could be explored with him. I would definitely write on his later years rather than earlier. Some moments with Reg, playing in the band, lots to draw on there. Josh has a lot going on his head too, so even one day could be greatly expanded upon for him.
And there's a lot I could do with Voldemort/Godfrey, too. They're a lot of fun to write for, and I think more 'free' as in a lot of crazy/funny s**t happens when it involves them both. I don't know. Not sure what to doooo.

Sounds like fun but I am notoriously bad at writing anything longer than like... 2 chapters. x3 I get excited about doing something and then write stuff up all night and then never go back to it.
Hahaha but this would be fun to try though, maybe I'll feel as if I have more time once I get internet again. :33333

Lol you should write a certain number of words (or a range anyways, 500-2000) and give it to me, and I write a continuation, and then give it back to you, and we see what we come up with. Or something like that. :3

Yeah, I think when we do the official one in March, we'll set different goals for members (10,000, 25,000, etc) with 50,000 being the largest.
It's definitely a challenge. First day is tomorrow so you'd better get started. scream
