well, Singletary pulled the trigger... or so it seems. One has to wonder how much heat he's getting from top brass to produce after such heightened expectation for this season.
So now Alex Smith has one more excuse to add to his bag to account for his failure as an NFL quarterback. Urgh.... I like to compare him to Joey Harrington. Smith is at best a backup.
He has shown occasional brilliance, but definitely lack consistency.
I hope they trade him or release him after this season.

It seemed inevitable with the way the 49ers have underachieved this season so far. But there's more problems with the 49ers offense than just communication problems with the offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye and the players. There is definitely a chemistry issue between Alex Smith and Michael Crabtree. Last season Crabtree stepped in and performed wonderfully, this year many of the passes attempted for Crabtree have been way off. The offensive line has two rookies on it. The Rookies have played alright for the most part, but yesterdays 5 sacks and only 48 rushing yards for Frank Gore shows that it is still a young offensive line that needs more time to develop. It's unfair to stick rookies in there and expect them to play at a pro level immediately. Monday nights game against the Saints was proof that they can play well and have potential, but it will need more time.
This has got to be so frustrating for Head Coach Mike Singletary. I doubt he will be fired in the middle of the season, but depending on how the team finishes from here on out, and many other great head coaches hanging around, we may see a quick end to the Singletary era in San Francisco.

I don't see it happening. I would like to say that the 49ers could have drafted Aaron Rodgers. That would have been a nice pick but no someone in charge of the team ******** the fans over by picking a guy from Utah. Sooner or later he is going to be fired and even if he doesn't get fired he still has that one year left on his contract and he is gone.
Anyways what I would say is Replace Smith, the Offense is a lot better. But because Smith is to inconsistent, I wouldn't expect him to stay very long in SF.
Also an injured Center doesn't help the 49ers.

True, and though many people would disagree with me, I've always been a fan of David Carr, and have always believed he never got a fair shot at being the starting QB when he was with Houston, When he was back up for Eli in N.Y. he showed that while he may not be the best QB in the league, he is good enough to be a solid starter and start somewhere. I would be happy if they start David Carr and have him finish the season.
Bottom line, the 49ers have scored the second fewest points in the NFL, (Only Carolina has scored fewer) if it wasn't for the last second TD in Sunday's game against KC they would be the lowest scoring team. 5 INT through three games, 4 of the 5 came from pass attempts to Michael Crabtree.
This offense has too much talent to be playing this bad. It needs a spark, and I don't think a new Offense Coordinator will fully do it. Give David Carr a chance. I'd stake my reputation on him, (What little reputation I may have.)

We should bench Chilo Rachal. Adam Snyder was doing a MUCH better job at Right Guard. My god is he horrible.
And Jimmy Raye wasn't that good. He kept trying to run the ball in the 2nd half. Throw the ball! You're down a lot! Throw it! Pick up the pace! He really can't adapt well to the situation...
It's not like they did bad when they threw it anyway. The did it fine last year.
And when the game is over, it's over. Singletary calling those timeouts at the end going for that meaningless touchdown was really dumb. If Gore or Davis got injured.... My god... That is some terrible coaching. Screw playing all 60 minutes. The game was over in 50 minutes. Protect yourself and go home and play next week. Jeez..... Singletary just is a terrible coach. He's a good speaker, but he doesn't know Xs and Os apparently. I hope he gets fired at the end of the year, Smith gets cut and we hire someone who's an actual coach.
I only hope Jimmy Raye's replacement is a good play caller. We don't need another Jim Hostler.

So I do like him for not giving up in the game. The problem with Sing is he talks big but the team doesn't show big.

Mike Johnson, the 49ers Quarterbacks coach will play interm Offensive Coordinator, and Offensive assistant Jason Michael will take over the QB coaching duties.
Johnson never served as an offensive coordinator, however he did step in and do some of the play calling for the Atlanta Falcons back on 03 I believe, in the two games he called then Falcons QB Michael Vick had his two highest QB ratings of his career with 119.2 and 93
So overall, still a lot of questions around whether if Johnson can step in and do better than Raye, we will have to wait and see. It is unfortunate that he will be thrown into play calling against the Falcons and Eagles in the next two weeks.
