A meditation space is also a sacred space. It is something that can either just happen or it is a space that takes a lot of planning. It can be indoors or outside. I'm actually working on creating both in my house. What objects you put in your space can reflect you, your religion, your path, or it can be a blank canvas. It all depends on your personal preferences, some people like no destructions, no music, not a lot of colors, etc; and that is perfectly fine. But the most important thing is that it is comfortable for you.
I also have posted a thread with different mediations on it.

Creating your sacred space: 1. Find the right space that you can have quiet and concentration and make it your space. 2. Make sure the light in the room isn't too bright. 3. Put incense in the room, if you want incense during your meditation. 4. Keep a blanket nearby because your body temperature can drop during meditation. 5. If you want, make up an altar - have candles, statues, stones, whatever you want. It's your space. 6. Have music in there if you want. 7. Have comfortable seating.
It's all the personal touches and pieces you place in your space that make it sacred. Think about what sacred means to you and work it into your space.

My personal indoor space has salt candles, incense, and music. Then my outdoor space that I'm planning will have a Buddha statue, Japanese maple tree, windchimes and a fountain.
*Just to note, I keep my altar and my meditation spaces seperate.

If you want to get into the habit of meditation try and set a specific time slot for it and make a realistic goal of doing it, say once a week, or whatever fits you.

I'm trying to decide what kind of statue I want in my backyard meditation space: a fairy or Buddha.

I have been creating another meditation space. I am in the process of cleaning all the clutter of items and energies in the room. The room is in the 1750 wing, which was transformed into servant quarters around the 1850's. When we bought the house, we made it into a guest bedroom. Now, it is being transformed into my art room and sacred space. The room is quite away from the rest of the activity in the house, which is nice.

Must be nice! I have to use my bedroom for everything at the moment. One side of it has Egyptian items and then another side has my Buddhist meditation items.
