Mawu was along the lines of hysteria in a way. She had stared to notice some very familiar changes in her body, ones that had happened when she spent time with Vestip. She was in denial however, sort of delusional to it. There was no way... she couldn't be. She had pushed it to the back of her mind a few weeks ago and actually did forget about it.
So she happened to be stretched out under the moonlight, her expression relaxed and content. She was in fact, very content. She was happy here. She was happy being friends with Uli and happy with her state of life. Her daughter visited often and Mawu felt free.
She sighed, her tail flipping. She had just gotten done having a conversation with her brother Pyke. It was nice to see him again too

Rumors were not hard to come by in the Mwezi'Johari, some members literally had nothing better to do. Her in-laws were among those members, of course, so she had easy access to any gossip. Not everybody paid the slaves a great deal of attention but those who did were noticing some funny goings-on. And it was something that Ally ought to address. Nerit had had Indu outside of marriage, her father had not investigated thoroughly because of a conflict of interest but it was deemed innocent enough. This was another situation, and unlike how it went down before, Ally intended to start now rather than see about making accusations later.
So she was out seeking the slave that was rumored to be getting larger in the middle, a recent member but not so recent it would have happened before she arrived. The other half of the rumors, the observations some had made.. well, that was why the queen was more tense than she might otherwise had been. And despite her best efforts, she couldn't shake it.
When she spotted Mawu and the time for confrontation finally arrived, she slowed herself down but couldn't walk away now. So she approached and cleared her throat.
"Good evening," she called out.

Mawu had started to lay her head down for a good rest when a voice rang out to her. She lifted her head, ears at attention and lilac eyes soft and comfortable. Who she spotted, was not who she thought it would be. She felt a bit of nervousness crawl across her spine and she shifted. It was queen Alcmene! She shifted again.
"G-good evening! Your highness!" She said, looking rather stunned to be seeing the queen like this. Out and just... out here... in the lower ranked area. She felt a bit of queasiness come to the back of her throat but ignored it. She still hadn't recalled her worry.

Ally suppressed the urge to glance around them for anybody else who might appear, well aware that she might accidentally run into her father- or the half-brother she never acknowledged, if those particular rumors were true. She couldn't help but glance over Mawu's form now, though, as that was the entire purpose of her visit now. She certainly showed signs of being pregnant, not quite undeniable but noticeable if you were looking for them.
"Mawu," she greeted her, "I hoped I could have a word with you."
She didn't need to be polite but she was, she always was.

Mawu felt a bit funny but nodded simply. "Of course... That would be no trouble at all.." She said politely, standing up and shaking herself off, stretching her hind legs uncomfortably. She walked over closer to the dark lioness, and Mawu could not help but take in how she looked. She was as if, the night sky was upon her pelt. Mawu felt a pang of... something along the lines of jealousy... At being beautiful.
"What is it Miss Alcmene?" She questioned, looking a bit worried. What if it was something about her child! She felt a bit panicked. "Is this about Onalim? Did she do something wrong?" She asked, looking more frightened.
What would she do if Onalim was in trouble. Not that she would ever expect Onalim to misbehave in anyway... but... still... it was something..."

She opened her mouth, searching for the most efficient way to start the conversation but she never got a chance. Mawu was already a mother and her first concern was for her oldest child, a touch unusual if she really was pregnant under suspicious circumstances but not unreasonable, Ally decided, being a mother herself.
"No, nothing is wrong with Onalim," she said reassuringly, shaking her head, "No, I'm here to talk about you, Mawu. I've come to ask you if you are pregnant."
There was no point explaining how she had come to believe this, no reason to describe the way gossip traveled around here. She just needed to know. And whatever she could see just looking at her, Mawu would need to say it, admit it.

Mawu looked relieved to hear it was not Onalim she was here to discuss. She sighed and smiled, looking content until the words escaped the queens lips. She looked stricken. Her worry a week or so ago came forward and kicked her in the face. Oh no. She looked a bit hesitant, looking around quietly. Was Uli near by.
Oh NO. It had to be true if... everyone; especially the queen, was noticing. She looked down at her belly, which was starting to show signs of rounding. Oh no. She looked even more upset. "I-I..." She paused. "Honestly. I thought about it a week ago but.. I just... didn't think that... I...I..." She looked up at the queen and then looked down-ashamed.
She had been told the rules of the pride... and... she had clearly broken them. "I... can't... I..." She looked almost as though she was going to cry now.

The reaction Mawu had to the question was surprising to say the least. She couldn't have been so oblivious to it, though perhaps she was in denial considering the circumstances. She certainly looked upset about the idea, very upset. But Ally had to get to the bottom of it, however sorry she felt about pushing the matter.
"You can't?" she repeated, a little more force in her voice now though she made a sincere effort not to sound unkind, "You certainly look like you could be but only you would know if that's possible, Mawu, you have to tell me."

Mawu felt stinging tears bordering on her eyelids, she kept them shut as she built up the courage. There was no lying, like she'd lie anyway. Everyone must know. She must be the laughing stock of the pride! She felt hideous and ashamed and worse. The father had to be Uli...
He probably wouldn't talk to her again.
The thought of that made her choke a little aloud. She regained her composure, nodding slowly. "I-I-I am... my queen..." She said staggering, her voice low and shaking. "I must be... I have been before and-I feel it the same... I just... didn't want it to be true.. "She lowered her head greatly. "I-i know the rules..." She fully expected to be thrown out. As was her luck.

Ally sighed once Mawu admitted it, now that it was a certainty they could deal with it and she could reassure the poor lioness.
"Mawu, there are no rules to say you can't get pregnant," she said but then she paused a moment to consider her next words carefully. Depending on how she continued, this could be easy or hard. Would Mawu give up who the father was if she knew he could be in trouble? She might already be aware of it, the way she was reacting, so she had to continue.
"But I do need to know who the father is," she continued, "I need to know you have not been taken advantage of and that you are not avoiding marriage to protect him from joining you in the low class."

Mawu knew that this was coming. She knew the queen would ask and that... she would have to answer. She stifled a sob, looking absolutely distraught. He would certainly not talk to her ever again. It was Vestip all over again, he'd led her on and then in the end would leave her. And Allys last words caught her by surprise.
Uli would loose his ranking. She looked even more petrified. Just like his father. OH. OH... "Alcmene... " She looked absolutely sick. "I don't think he knows... I haven't said anything to him and... he hasn't s-s-said anything to me... and... he... he has to marry me..." She looked even more sad. "What if he doesn't want to be with me... That has happened once before miss..." She looked ill... "Miss if I say who... will you keep it quiet until I tell him... please!" She looked devastated. She was ruining his life... for certain.

Feeling sympathy, and glad to have some sort of compromise offered to her, she was happy to accept. Mawu had to have some kind of control in the situation, for her own sanity and even if it was only because Ally did not feel so inclined to take it away from her. Part of her felt some relief, though, too. If it was her brother and Mawu took care of it herself, she would not have to face him. Except should they not choose to wed on their own. She needn't point out that Mawu was obligated to confess his identity to the queen anyway.
"You may take care of it yourself if you tell me who he is," she nodded.

Mawu sighed. She looked a bit more relieved with the queens word. Mawu had to tell him. It was her duty, and as his wife... wow.. that was a weird thought. She looked a bit dazed and finally in a whisper spoke. "Ulivuma... he could be the only one... who would have sired these cubs..." She said softly, knowing that the queen and him were related. She wasn't sure of the relationship but...
She sighed, looking down at her gloved front paws. "Oh I hope he doesn't hate me..." She said softly, her lilac eyes full of fear and regret. Of anything, she didn't want him to never talk to her again. It was her disbelief in herself and her old prides ways talking to her again. "I hope he will stay friends with me..."

Ally was prepared for Mawu to say it was Ulivuma but it didn't make it any easier to hear for certain. Her half brother, a lord, was having cubs with a slave.. and unlike their father, they were not actively planning this. Mawu certainly sounded sincere in her concerns, it might not be anything suspicious.. but she needn't decide that now.
"You have a couple days to find Ulivuma and talk to him about this," she said seriously, "The king and I will be expecting word on what you decide. Whether you two agree to marry or not, you should both come to us together."
Ulivuma was a lord, that alone made it unlikely they could get out of the situation unmarried, whatever they tried to say about what happened.

Mawu nodded. Yes. She would go to him. She had too tell him. It was a horrifying thought, going to a good friend and just pretty much telling him he was a father, which he probably wasn't ready for. It was so nerve racking, she started to pace. "Right... yes... I will... I will go to him right now.. and tell him."
She stood up and began to walk away, paused and turned to her queen. "Please... don't hate him.. he didn't know..." She said softly, before turning away and leaving.
