Celile snarled and shot an accusing glare at the bush as its' thorns raked against her flesh. She thought of giving it a swipe with her unforgiving claws, but she knew it wouldn't be effective. It'd just give her more cuts to deal with. The leopardess seemed to be in an excessively irritable mood, and the hunger pang in her gut didn't help at all.
"I hate thorns." She muttered to herself, expressing the rage through her eyes as she continued to sulk through the rogue lands. "I hate rocks, too." The stones embedded themselves in her tender paws, but Celile had no time to groom them yet. Night was approaching, and she wanted to find a shelter before it got too cold.

With nightfall fast approaching, Zuraya’s mind was on finding shelter for the night. The perk of being a rogue was not having to answer to anyone… the downside? Not having a place to come back to every night. She supposed she could secure a den and return to it, but what was the point? There was no security in being alone, even if it was in the same place all the time. She may as well go anywhere, and was more comfortable that way, anyway. Even though the light was now fading, movement caught Zuraya’s eye not far away. A closer look revealed a sky-blue leopardess fighting her way through a thorn bush. The lioness stifled a grin at her expense for a moment, before she called out, “Need help?”

Celile whirled towards the stranger's voice, the hardened scowl quickly fading when she spots the lioness. "Oh... Urh..." She glanced to the bush, embarrassed to be caught in such a predicament in front of a mighty lioness... and at the same time, thankful for the company. Celile gave her body another twist, and a harsh shove, and finally found herself free. "Looks like yeh were a lil' late to help me this time, eh?" She give a carefree smirk, a feature that softened her irritable mood. Her tail shifted slyly, and a rustle of the bush proceeded. It was still caught within the thorns, but Celile tried to conceal the fact with the volume of her voice.
"Thank yeh fer yer concern, though. It's mighty appreciated." Celile's teal eyes narrowed at the unique-looking female, finally taking a moment to carve her features into memory even before she received a name. "I'm Celile. I used teh have title, bu' now it's jus' Celile."

Zuraya grinned s the saw the leopardess pull herself free; she seemed quite capable, so Zuraya held her ground instead of coming forward to assist. Honestly, she hadn’t really been keen on getting to close to those thorns, anyway.
“It’s no trouble. I’d want someone to help me if I needed it.” Zuraya answered truthfully, looking the leopard up and down and considering her accented words. The next gave her pause.
“Title?” Zuraya sounded bewildered, “Title for what? A pride?” She’d heard of ranks before, but she rarely associated with pride goers these days. But then, recalling her manners, she added hastily, “I’m Zuraya. It’s nice to meet you. Umm… do you live near here?” As it was still growing dark, the thought of someone who knew the area was suddenly interesting.

"A pride? Me?" The teal feline let out a playful, yet somewhat over dramatic scoff. "I don' actually remembeh what it was fer... Or what it was..." Celile looked distant for a moment as she tried to recall. "Tha' might be why it was lost in the first place!" She gave a deep laugh to conceal the sound of the rustling bush as she forcefully pulled her tail free without a cringe. When Celile received the lioness's name she felt secure enough to wander towards her, head dipped as a sign of respect.
"Well met, Zuraya. No... I don'... Just passin' through like a dyin' tumble weed. Wha' of yeh? Live 'roun' here?" The leopardess looked hopeful as she stopped her approach a good distance away. If it was possible to take refuge in whatever den or shelter this lioness was familiar with, her night would be set. Maybe even two or three nights.

Zuraya heard the rustle of branches, but she didn’t realize what it was from. The sound made her startle and glance around quickly, but she didn’t recognize the source. Ah, well. There weren’t a lot of things out here that would sneak up on two grown cats in the dark, anyway. So she put her mind at ease again, and when Celile came forward, Zuraya sat, folding her tail over her forepaws neatly.
“That’s a shame you forgot it. Then again, I suppose the only thing that really matters is the name itself. You could just make up a title, if you wanted it.” This coming from Zuraya, who had no clue about the significance of such things, and maybe never would. Right now she was really considering introducing herself to the next cat she met as a Queen, just for kicks.
“I’m afraid I don’t know much about the area, either. I was kind of hoping you would,” Zuraya told her bluntly, though still kindly. But then she added, “Wait though, you’re a leopard! You can just climb a tree or something, can’t you?” Zuraya, though always happy to converse, also failed at being tactful.

"A title looses it's significance wit'out some sor' of meanin' behind it." The leopard spoke quietly, as if talking to herself but carefully considering the lion's words. "But yeh have a poin'." She displayed a toothy grin. "I'll call m'self Celile the Lion." Cackling wickedly, Celile was clearly amused by her clever idea. "I migh' get some looks like I'm half crazy... But tha's okay... I probably deserve 'em after all." Creeping until the lion was at a comfotable distance of two paw-steps, Celile settled her rump in the dirt, letting her blue tail sway in the air behind her.
"Tha's a shame." Celile didn't try to conceal her dissapointment as the lion confessed her situation as well. "I wish it was tha' simple... Unfortunately, trees aren't an option fer me. Unless y'can find one tha' doesn't require a skilled jump." The faint melancholy tone in her voice expressed how reluctant she was to elaborate her implied disability. "No matter... Let's say we combine forces, aye? Two eyes are better than one... Erh, four, rather."

“Celile the Lion?” Zuraya repeated, clearly amused. She didn’t say it, but she was thinking that it made sense; sure, why wouldn’t a non-lion want to be a lion? They were pretty great. But she merely nodded and grinned, taking it as a joke, which it was surely intended to be. “Not sure it suits you,” She replied in turn, winking, “But it has a nice ring to it.”
Gazing out over the savannah, now dark as night had fallen upon it, Zuraya couldn’t help but agree that it might be nice to have company when wandering around out there. It helped o be a big predator, but that didn’t mean there was nothing she should be afraid of out there. “I like that approach… alright. I had been heading to the south some, I thought earlier I saw some rock outcropping that might still be sun-warm. But I’m not sure, it could be I’m mistaken.” And even if they were they, Zuraya thought, that didn’t mean they’d be good shelter, either. “Want to go that way?” She offered, eyeing the teal-blue leopard and searching for injuries, related to her previous comment.
“Sorry trees won’t work… That’s a shame. Tons of them out there. Easy to find.” Zuraya was being tactless again, but just the same, her words echoed her own disappointment at being unable to climb them easily.

"Aye, maybe you should have a title as well. Plenty v'stares 'n' gawks fer the both of us, mm?" Celile laughed light-heatedly, fond to discover she could share her sense of humor with the colorful lioness.
The smaller feline followed the lion's gaze across the Savannah. The remaining light in the sky was dim, casting shadows and sweeping an eerie sensation across the land. "I just came from the south..." Celile explained to her new found companion with at twinkle in her eyes. "There's no shelter there. Lots'v trees, but no den or crevices we can squeeze inteh." The already firm smile rippled further across her face as her eyes darted back to meet Zuraya's. "Le's go across these grasslands." She motioned in the direction with a subtle nod, and lifted herself to her paws to lead the way.
As she moved and exposed her flank, she revealed her back legs. There was no sign of recent injury, but there was definitely something ''off'' about one of them... As if there was a chunk missing, or the gods just designed her with a unique anatomy. Nevertheless, Celile didn't have as swift or smooth a gait as any other leopardess should.

“In that case…” Zuraya mused, thinking up something appropriate, “I’d like to be Zuraya the Goddess.” Blasphemies about this aside, Zuraya really did like this name. Well, of course she did, for a lioness who thought so highly of herself. She laughed just the same, shaking her head at the silly notion. “I wonder how many lions I could seriously annoy, introducing myself like that.”
At Celile’s next words, however, Zuraya sighed. “Oh, pity then. Well, I suppose I’m lucky I met you, I’d have been looking in the dark for things that weren’t there.” She got up to follow the leopardess, and it was then she noticed her awkward gait. And because she couldn’t help herself, she had to ask, “What’s going on with your legs? A cramp?” Zuraya didn’t really think this was the issue, but she was way too curious to let it go now. She was looking Celile over quite blatantly, looking for scars or faults that would explain the problem.

The question made her fur prickle, but Celile continued on regardless. Could she really be that insensitive? Oh, but it wasn't the first time she'd encountered a creature like this. The worst were children... always so persistent, laying on question after question until their curiosity was satisfied. The leopard tried not to show her discontent in her movements as she thought up a story to tell her.
"No... When I was a cub I was bit'n by a toxic snake on meh hindquarters. Meh leg jus' never healed right." An acceptable excuse, even for the least gullible felines. Celile glanced at the colorful lion, the grin ever present on her face, wondering if she would drop the subject after this tale. "It's why I can't climb s'good... Have I mentioned I hate nature?"

Oh yes, Zuraya could definitely be that insensitive. It wasn’t that she was ignorant, though; she was just self-centered, plain and simple. The aggravations and moods of others could often be lost on her if she wasn’t in a perceptive mood. Like now.
“Oh, that’s terrible,” Zuraya replied, suitably sympathetic sounding. And truly she had sympathy, since she liked this leopardess so far, she just had a poor way of expressing it. But she did seem satisfied with the explanation, and didn’t question her further on it. With darkness now surrounding them both, she also had other things on her mind.
Ahead, the waning light showed a barely visible stand of brush, run through with obvious prey trails to it’s center. It wouldn’t be hard to get into, but it’d be far from a comfortable resting place. Still, Zuraya considered the possibility of not finding anything better in a timely fashion. “Is that something you’d give a try?” She asked Celile, gesturing with a tilt of her head.

Celile's next breath could almost be mistaken for a sigh of relief. She noted the lioness's behavior and adjusted the way she would act around her in the future. She knew one wrong step could turn nasty, especially with her own volatile tenancies. The best way to avoid it was to be aware... and this relationship could turn out to be a lovely prance through a field of daisies. She gave an inaudible scoff at the thought.
"Mmm?" Celile snapped from her mind-bubble as Zuraya spoke out about the shelter she'd spotted. The leopard slinked forward to inspect it closer... and then gazed upwards as if searching the sky for the sun or the moon. "Yeah. It doesn't look like we'll fin' anythin' better if we keep up at this rate. I dun like teh gamble when my beauteh sleep is at stake." She grinned at Zuraya with a wink before returning her attention to the shelter. "Good eyes on yeh. Shall we?"

Zuraya looked upwards as Celile did, but she didn’t see anything up there that might be helpful in her decision-making. She chalked it up to something else she didn’t really understand about the leopardess - religious, maybe?
“Sure… I’ll go for it. Better than winding around the plains in the dark.” The trick, it seemed, was getting into one of those brush-tunnels without getting caught in it. Zuraya was pretty big for this kind of maneuver. She crept forward, scenting the air for signs of other creatures; there was nothing, right now. So she hunkered down with her belly flat against the ground, and crawled forward into the brush. She was still so big that her back scraped the branches, causing sticks and leaves to shower down upon her. She growled a little but kept going.
“How stupid do I look right now?” She called back over her shoulder, though she could no longer see Celile through the bracken. All Celile might see, if she was looking, would be Zuraya’s colorful butt.

Celile stifled a giggle at the sight. "Darlin', all I see is a glimmerin' tail. Is there 'nough room fer me in there?" Without waiting for a response, the leopard slunk to the ground and squeezed bottom-first into the hole. It was much more graceful than the lion's attempt, as she was much smaller and more slender. Though the cripple in her hind leg made it a little more difficult than it should have been.
Finally, she was snug in the makeshift shelter with her lioness companion... It was a tight fit, Celile's head unable to get inside. "Perfectly cozy." Celile said, a sarcastic note in her voice. "And it'll get us through th' night..." She squirmed, trying to loosen a paw from beneath the weight of her body. "Well, ah... sleep tight." She cackled at her own pun, resting her head on her paws as she prepared to slumber.
