 Mercury hummed a happy little tune as he walked through the forest. The reason for his happiness? Recently the love of his life, Amaidi, had agreed to be his mate. The rainbow-patterned fox had be ecstatic with joy, making it all the more easier for his new mate to push him into the tide pool they had been viewing at the time. It was tough love, but love all the same.
As a new couple they weren't together 24/7. Amaidi was still a fun-loving fox who enjoyed her freedom, and Mercury understood that. It just made seeing her again all that much sweeter. One day they would live together as a couple, but for now each was still adjusting to leaving behind their days of singledom.
Occupied as he was with his own personal happiness, Mercury still paid attention when his stomach growled at him. He stopped, momentairly shocked, then remembered he hadn't eaten yet today. There was a blackberry bush nearby, that would have to do for now. He examined the thorny plant, hoping to find a few ripe berries on the surface before trying to work his was to the middle.

 Baki was sleeping under a bush when he woke to another fox poking its nose in for the berries. He crawled out from under it, being careful not to get the thorns in his fur. He did that before and it hurt. Before he stood up he checked to make sure his tail was out of the way.
Baki managed to appear a little ways away from the other fox, so he sat down and inspected the male. "If you are looking for berries, there are some easier ones to your left." He said with a yawn.

Mercury turned his head to watch a red fox crawl out from a bush nearby. Had to be, what kind of fox slept in the middle of a thorn bush? The male appeared to have just woken up, given his stretching and yawning. Still, he appeared to be in good temper as he gave Mercury some advice to the best spot for berries.
"Thank you," he said, giving the male a smile. There was a tiny nagging feeling in the back of his mind, like maybe he'd known this male long ago or something. He peered at him curiously from the corners of his eyes.

He walked past the black fox to grab some berries, since he was awake now. Baki picked up a stick in his mouth and dropped it on a group of berry vines. As he held the stick and vines down with his paw, he grabbed some berries and set them to the side. His father taught him to be kind to other foxes when they came into his area. "Here are some ripe ones so you don't have to dig. And if you look at me much longer, I might take it as rude."

Mercury frowned, his expression turning thoughtful. "I apologize. You just look....familiar. Like I know you, but I don't." He dipped his head to take some of the offered berries from the ground.

Baki looked at the other fox again. "Nope never met you before," he said with flick of his tail. "So what are you doing out here?"

Mercury felt a blush cross his face at the question and he nearly choked on the berry in his mouth. He still felt a little wiggle of joy in his mucles when he thought of how Amaidi had finally accepted him as her official mate.
"I proposed to my beloved," Mercury said, sounding a tad smug. "She loves the marsh and ocean and I fare better in the forests, so we have to be apart every so often."

His tailed stopped in midswish and his ears perked up. No there couldn't be another fox that.. he let the thought hang in the air. "Sounds like congratulations are called for." Baki watched as the other ate and thought fresh meat would be better. He moved away from the berry bushes and waited for something more filling to head his way.
"So, how is it working out for you? being away from your beloved and all?" The only females he knew were his mother and sister. And the times he seen them had been short.

"It is only for a short amount of time," Mercury replied. "Actually, no more than a day at the most. We're beginning a journey to find my mother and tell her the news. We figure to use the time to find a way to tell her father." Mercury paused, looking a little nervous. "She does not seem to think he would ah.....approve...of his little girl being mated already."

Baki laughed. "That sounds like my father. If he found out his only little girl was mated... Well I would feel sorry for her mate." He sat there and thought about it some. "Of course I probably would want him to pass my approval, also."
It didn't matter that he hardly sees his sister, but who ever was going to be with her had to go through the family first. Besides they are still young to be thinking of mating.

Mercury looked a little wistful. "I was an only child. I would have grown up completely alone if a vixen named Runaiu hadn't found me. We sort of adopted each other like mother and son. She's who we're trying to find now, but it'll be hard since she's a wanderer."
He looked up at the male. "What about you? I already know you had a sister, did you have any other siblings growing up?" A thought crossed his mind. "Oh, my apologies! My name is Mercury."

"My father did that with a kit. They kind of adopted each other. Then there is my sister and brother." He sighed though, "I haven't really seen much of my mother. I was raised by my father."
He looked at the fox. "No apologies needed. I forgot my manners too. Names Baki."
((No worries. He wont get hurt that much))

Mercury nodded. "It is very nice to meet you, Baki." He sighed, looking behind him in the direction he was bound to travel. "I shouuld get going soon," he murmered, half to himself. "Amaidi will begin to worry."

Baki looked at male. "Did you say Amaidi?" he shook his head. No not his sister. There had to be another by that name out there. "Are you going to look for Riku?" Baki asked. His fur was close to standing on end, but he was happy to note that it stayed down and his voice was only a little strained when he talked.

Mercury was surprised at the sudden tension in Baki's demeanor. It was only slight, but compared to the total relaxation of before it was a noticable change. "Yes. Amaidi is the name of my mate. I don't know any Riku's thou-," Mercury trailed off.
It was like he blinked and suddenly his view of the world changed. Or, more specifically, his view of Baki. Suddenly he realized why that coat had looked so familiar. If the colors had been distributed differently.
"Oh my...," Mercury said, looking a touch nervous. He was sure this wasn't Amaidi's father, they knew where he would be. She hadn't mentioned the rest of her family much, but..... This was not good!
