She woke up in the middle of the night, fully rested. Her small body was stiff from sleeping so hard, and her back and side was so warm. She blinked grogilly at that and turned her head to look at to why she was so warm. And there he was. Muscar had stayed with her the whole time, it seemed, and he had drifted off at one point or another. With a shake of her head, the small lioness rose from her position and stretched her front legs first, scratching the ground with her claws and then her back legs before giving herself a shake. Lipi turned back around and stared at Muscar openly. She didn't care if he woke up and caught her. His words floated through her mind and kept replaying.

"You're beautiful."

What did that mean, exactly? She knew she wasn't too horrible to look at, but beautiful wasn't something she'd call herself. It wasn't that she had self esteem issues; she just didn't see it. Besides, she'd only just met him. A frown came across her face as she thought more, tail flicking this way and that. Either way, if he didn't wake up soon, she'd do it for him. She wanted a big waterbuck right now, and she couldn't take it down alone.

Princess_Feylin
Muscar remained blissfully oblivious to Lipi's waking. He slept through Gliri waking all the time, and although Lipi was not as stealthy as his twin when it came to it, she was definitely quiet enough not to bestir him. He was deeply asleep, which was amazing in and of itself, given that he couldn't remember the last time he'd slept away from his sister. And it wasn't exactly as if he'd been thinking of Lipi as a surrogate for Gliri. Yes, they were filling the same purpose in keeping him company and providing him with a warm body to curl around, but his thoughts of Lipi as he fell asleep in no way resembled the thoughts he had about his sister. Which was a very good thing, by all counts.

In any event, he was deeply asleep and dreaming. His dreams were not pleasant, however, and thus his sleep was fitful one Lipi left him. Habit had kept his body still despite his mind's unease while her body lay curved along his, but without a body there, he twitched and kicked, trying to stop what was inevitable in the realm of dreams. He was trying to keep Shazidi away from his sister, but both lions were working against him, and he was not succeeding.

She didn't know of his inner turmoil for a few moments, lost in the thoughts of a decent sized meal. It wasn't until he kicked hard that she even noticed he was moving. A nightmare? Well, she knew what to do about those. Golden eyes looked ahead as she walked toward him again and she bent her head. What she did was lay back down against him and push his head up with hers in an almost caress. She wouldn't lie and say she didn't find him handsome. In a way, Lipi had wanted to do that since she had met the male.

Despite her attitude, she was still female. "Wake up, Muscar. You're having a bad dream." Her voice wasn't soft, but she tried to make it as gentle as she could. If it was working, Lipi hadn't the faintest clue.

Princess_Feylin
No sooner had Lipi's body been reinserted beside him, and her head used to nudge hers than Muscar was instantaneously more peaceful. Just the touch of another was enough to calm Muscar's restless mind and still his fitful body. His tail continued to twitch, however, a sign that all was not as calm below as it might appear on the surface. Muscar was used to having someone to share his insecurities with, but in this case his confidante was the source of his insecurities, and so it was left to his subconscious to sort things out. The poor thing wasn't used to being put to work like that.

A voice managed to pierce the veil between states of consciousness. He thought at first - because what other instinct could he have? - that it was Gliri waking him, and he opened his eyes quickly, relief written plain on his features. Looking on Lipi he couldn't help but display a modicum of disappointment. It wasn't that she wasn't beautiful and wonderful, but she wasn't his sister.

With a great deal of dismay, he realized what that must have looked like to Lipi. He began apologizing immediately, "I'm so sorry, Lipi. I didn't expect to see you there." Realizing how that must sound, he clarified. "I thought you would be my sister."

He hadn't wanted to get into the matter between himself and Gliri, but it seemed some explanation might be in order, if she asked. He hoped she wouldn't ask. It would be nice, for once, not to have Gliri filling his every thought. There had been a few moments like that as he'd been falling asleep, smelling Lipi's fur.

She saw his beginnings of waking up and stayed where she was, just letting him wake up natrually. It was best for nightmares to wake up slowly and in a way your used too. Clearly, after seeing the brief relief on his face, and then disappointment, he hadn't woke up all that naturally. She wasn't hurt by it. It wasn't like they were a couple and she was important to him. No, she was just a lioness he'd met a few hours previously.

He spoke, and she cut him off with a paw to his lips. "Stop saying sorry. It doesn't matter; because I don't care you looked disappointed." Really, she didn't. So she said. "I didn't expect you to be here when I woke up, either. I thought you'd run off like others do after meeting me. I know I'm not exactly.... the best company." She wasn't joking, either. She was completely serious as she spoke, her expression serious as well. Lipi had fallen for a lion once, from a pride, and he never showed back up after a few meetings. It had hurt, so she learned not to expect anything from anyone. It meant she was never disappointed.

Princess_Feylin
She might not care, but she had noticed. That was more than enough to fill Muscar with guilt. She might be bossy and impetuous, but that didn't give him the right to make her feel bad. Muscar refused to believe she wasn't a little hurt by his expression. He definitely would have been wounded if she'd looked like that upon waking and looking into his face. Maybe she had, and he'd slept through it.

"But I am sorry," he protested. "It really wasn't you."

He refrained from mentioning what he thought of lions who would just leave a lioness on their own in the middle of the night, though his thoughts on the matter were full of grim judgment. He managed not to think of Gliri, and how she would have been alone that night. Good. Let her be alone, and see what it would be like without him. So much for not thinking about her.

"I wouldn't have left you, even if you'd been horrid company," Muscar said. "Which, by the way, you aren't. You're the most entertaining person I've met in an elephant's years."

"I said I didn't care, Muscar. You don't have to explain." She huffed it out and laid where she was, getting comfortable again. She needed to talk to him about two things. But, before the hard part of hunting, she'd ask him about his words last night before she drifted off to sleep.

"And pretties, hm?" She asked, arching her brows. "That's what you said lastnight, wasn't it? That I was beautiful?" Her tone didn't sound condesending at all. She said it like she was talking about the weather, with a hint of curiousness. "...Why did you say it while I was falling asleep?" She looked up at him before leaning against him as if she would fall asleep on him again. He was comfortable and warm. And it was still night. The waterbucks wouldn't be out yet, would they?

Princess_Feylin
"All right," he said mildly.

Muscar continued to feel guilty, but she'd said the night before that she didn't want to talk about her own problems, and so presumably she wouldn't want to talk about his either. He wouldn't force her to listen to him gripe, then, though it would be nice to get a feminine perspective on the whole affair. It was possible - just barely - that he was looking at things all the wrong way.

His eyes widened at the sudden change in topic. He certainly wasn't prepared to answer that. A human would have blushed and stammered. Muscar only stammered, "I...That is. I didn't think you would hear me say it. I thought you were already asleep"

He'd said it then because there was no way he could say it seriously to someone while they were both conscious.

So he didn't want her to hear him? How odd. She tried to wrap her mind around why that was. Her ears flicked as she did thought about this. It was odd, Lipi took things very seriously. Even if they were made to be a joke.

Was this meant to be a joke? She looked to him again and nodded a bit. "Alright. .....You find me beautiful. Why wouldn't you want me to hear that? I can't figure out a reason as to why you would want to hide that fact. I just...." She shrugged a bit.

Princess_Feylin
Muscar looked down at his paws, as though there might be some answer hidden there for him to uncover and make this whole conversation go much more easily. Not surprisingly, there was nothing there but dirt, which meant he would have to come up with his own reply and hope he didn't sound too idiotic.

"I didn't want you to think less of me. I'm not the kind of lion who takes advantage of others. At least, I try not to be." There was probably not a single instance in his life when he had knowingly taken advantage of anyone.

"I didn't want you to think that the only reason I was talking to you and spending time with you was because you're beautiful. I mean, that's a really nice bonus, but it doesn't have anything to do with anything. Not really." He'd listened to too many of his sister's stories, and they'd turned him into a gentleman without his even realizing it.

Ah. So the answer finally spilled forth. She shook her head a bit more and gave a short lived laugh. "Muscar," Lipi started, "if I would have thought that, I wouldn't still be talking to you. So just.... relax, take a breath, and help me figure out what is around here to eat." Like lways, Lipi was starving. She might be short, but she knew how to pack away raw meat.

She stretched her leg muscles out as she moved away from him, intent on hunting this early morning. "Since there's two of us, perhaps a buck of sorts. It's the only thing worth eating with two." Her ears turned this way and that, trying to get a lock on any kind of rustling in the trees or grasses.

Princess_Feylin
Muscar offered a sheepish smile. "Sorry. I just worry. It probably happens to you a lot, and I really didn't want you to think..."

He trailed off and very deliberately took a breath, grinning a little as he went about it. "This is me, taking a breath and relaxing. As ordered."

As for things to eat, Muscar wasn't sure. It was still a bit early for most prey animals to be out. At least most larger prey animals. The smaller ones which had enough sense to learn predators' habits and emerge from hiding before their arrival might be out. Muscar had fed himself and Gliri from those small creatures many, many times.

"We could probably bring down a buck," Muscar acknowledged. "But I'm not sure any would be awake this early. We're more likely to find hares and other semi-nocturnals."

He wondered if she'd heard him at all.

She heard him, and he had a point. That made her frown, however. Lipi turned so her golden gaze waas on him and then sighed. "You're right. But I'm sick of hare and genet and ratels, even." Her tail flicked as she spoke. No, she wasn't irritated at him, she was irritated at the bucks for not being out this early.

The petite female let her claws dig into the ground and then looked around as if answers would pop out of nowhere. "...So, what to do while waiting?" Maybe Muscar could figure out something for them to do. Lipi could honestly go back to sleep and be comfortable oing so for the rest of the day and well into the night.

Princess_Feylin
Muscar couldn't argue with that. On his own, he was fortunate if he managed to take down a large herdbeast. Sometimes he managed it, and then he and Gliri ate very well indeed, but often he did not. Lions were not meant to hunt and kill singly, but he knew he could not ask Gliri to help him hunt. She couldn't do it. It might have been nice to try hunting with someone else. It also might have been a disaster.

"Mm...I don't know. Usually at this time of day I'm still asleep. By choice, I don't tend to wake before the sun." Even though it meant missing some of the prime dawn hunting. "I'm not sure I'm quite tired enough to sleep anymore, though. I leave it up to you."

Oh, wonderful. It was left up to her and she was the lazy one. A grin appeared on Lipi's face as she silently laughed at that.

Weighing her options it was, then. She sat on her hunches while looking at him, her head tilting as she thought. They could always go walking and find where the herd was sleeping, then get one of the smaller adult ones. That was always a good way to eat this early. They would just have to be very, very quite for that plan to work.

Or, they could sit and talk more until it was late enough to go and seek out a herd. "Well. We could always go find the herd, take down an adult while they're sleeping and then eat well. Or wait and talk more until it's late enough, then take down an adult and eat well. Either way, I'm determined on getting full."

Princess_Feylin
The choices she presented were both acceptable to Muscar, who was finally beginning to feel a little more comfortable with the fact that Lipi was a beautiful lioness who had chosen to remain in his company for part of a night, at least, and who had allowed him to fall asleep with her. At times like these he wished he had more practical experience of life, rather than just his sister's stories. In Gliri's stories, Lipi's behavior would have signaled that she liked him - more than liked him. This was real life, however, and not a story, and he couldn't base his actions on that.

Not for the first time he wondered how Gliri seemed to know so much about real life, when she seemed to spend so little time living it. Then he remembered the whole affair with Shazidi and had to stop himself from scowling. That had soured his mood right up. With a shrug he said, "Let's find a herd. I've never tried hunting with another lion before."

Her look of determination turned into one of a very pleased lioness. "Very well. Let's go then!" Lipi could barely contain the excitement in her voice. She got up again and started toward where she thought herds could be sleepig. By water? In a field? Now that she thought about it, she didn't know where they slept.

"...I think they sleep in a field. ...Right?" Lipi's voice turned unsure. It also held the question if he knew at all. But she wouldn't voice that out loud, no. Lipi was sure of herself, confident, and lazy at the same time.
