Se doesn't talk much about her past, but it's not because she's trying to be mysteriously cool. It's more she's pretty embarassed of her past.
She tries her best to be a good person, but is often conflicted by overwhemling bouts of confusion and distrust of people after her past experiences, namely, siding with SIN during the war.
She realized quickly it was a mistake on her part, but made many friends following the Sentinel who seemed just as good, if not more honest and real, than people who claimed to follow the ways of the Overseer. Her ultimate decision to betray her original group cost her friendships she thought would transcend personal interests and sides, and left her in a position where she had to work harder to earn trust among her new fellow Order-mates. She faced even more scrutiny when she was unable to conjure magic or use spells, left only the option to offer her physical strength to the Order... a trait she wasn't immediately the strongest at.
