__ Tetsuhiko looked towards Bastet-sensei and tapped his chin in regards to her question. He knew very little of medical techniques in general and was keen to follow his sensei's lead on this one. He nodded to her once she finished speaking and he finished complemplating the choices. "Emergency sounds marvelous." He said with a hairflip as he awaited his teacher to finish filling out the paper.

As soon as Tetsu ever-so-flamboyantly accepted her suggestion to go into emergency medicine, Bast quickly finished off the paperwork. Someone quickly came along and directed them to a room with a few mildly injured people in various situations of distress. In short order, they'd be split up to deal with the various situations present. They were just tasked with preliminary diagnosis and disinfection of the wounds, since they were new. ((Assigned: Diagnosis, Purification.))

Post 3/3 for Diagnosis

The first dude Bast was made to look after had some sort of ranged weapon's ammunition lodged in him. Specifically at the mid-leg joint, as it turned out. It was super nasty and bleeding a lot. How had nobody taken a look at this already? Oh, wait, there was a seam there, so this wound was fake. He was doing an admirable job acting up the pain.

"I believe I've located the problem," Bast told one of the instructors. "He appears to have a foreign body embedded in his leg. Commencing extraction."

Post 4/4 for Purification

Hoo boy, this was a nasty one. Fake wound or not, they were playing up the blood spray like it was their job. These weren't merely ketchup packets bursting, no sir. Sure, arrows, caused a lot of damage, but she was only breaking the shaft. Did this guy have high blood pressure? Did someone hook up an air pressure canister to his cardiovascular system? Some of his blood was reaching the ceiling! She almost wished she'd left this guy for her student so he'd get some experience with gore. The shaft broke at long last, signaling the end of that phase of work.

Next came cleaning. With alcohol-laden cotton swabs in hand, she mopped up around the wound. Once that was done, she disinfected the tools and handed them off to a more senior student.

Post 3/3 for Diagnosis

Next was the opposite end of the spectrum. This young girl was seemingly perfectly healthy. Not even a single scab was on her body. This would be a bit trickier. Bast ran a battery of standard tests and eventually realized the girl was acting pretty sluggish. As it turned out, she had a concussion. It took several more seconds to fully verify the extent of the injury. It was mild, sure, but there was a hidden complication. This girl was also sick!

Post 4/4 for Purification

What needed to be done for concussion patients? Was she just supposed to leave this girl alone? She wasn't qualified to give prescriptions. Maybe that was the trick? Just hand her off to whomever was best qualified? And what about the sickness? It didn't seem to be more severe than the common cold, but it might react poorly to medication. For the time being, she had the girl lie down and gave her an icepack. As soon as that was done, she called someone else over. This person was qualified to fill prescriptions.

"Some painkillers and something for her sickness," she relayed. Just like that, the job was done. All in a day's work.

Post 3/3 for Diagnosis

This was a broken toe. There was absolutely no doubt in her mind about it. If a toe were any more broken than this, it would still be broken. If it were slightly less broken, it would still be broken, or perhaps only fractured. Instead, it sat right at the middle of the brokenness spectrum. Floppy and bruised were things it was. This had to be one of the easiest diagnoses on the books. It was right up there with broken fingers and a spike through the head for obviousness. She'd seen less noticeable amputations.

Post 4/4 for Purification

Swabbing down something like this required less precision than it did a ginger touch. Swelling was good at keeping the bone immobile. It was something Bast had noticed several times in battle before. It was just a pity that she couldn't use that against her opponents. By the time she was usually done with them, they--like this man's toe--were all floppy and bruised. Swelling typically wasn't an issue at that point.

She could remember a time when Howaido came home with a broken arm after playing too hard. It wasn't nearly this severe a case, thankfully, but he was bawling like the babe he was. Then again, arms tended to hurt more than toes. Size differences were fun like that. As she wrapped the toe in plaster, she wondered if the person who'd taken care of him was a trainee like her. Either way, he looked like a quarter-mummy for months.

Post 3/3 for Diagnosis

Were there any bars to fight in? The next guy said he'd gotten in a bar fight and had the hand laceration to prove it. That probably meant grit in there. Wait, if this guy had been in a fight, where was the other person? Were they not as injured? Did Tetsu have them? All questions that weren't pertinent to the job, unfortunately. Sure enough, it did look like there was some grit in there. She'd have to get that out.

Post 4/4 for Purification

She strapped the guy's arm down to the table and set about cleaning his wound. It looked like there was some gravel and maybe glass in there. What a poor sucker.

While she worked, she chatted with him about the weather, sports, and probability distributions. The weather was sunny and windy, as always. That never really changed. Then again, they had gotten snow recently. His favorite hip-ball player had just retired after a legendary win streak. Undefeated for forty-four games straight. Who could hope to compete? His favorite probability distribution was the Dirac delta function. She had to agree, even if she wasn't sure it counted. It was just too useful.

Post 3/3 for Diagnosis

This last schlub was walking funny. After surreptitiously making sure he hadn't been stabbed in the leg, Bast commenced normal diagnosis. It was best to get the major things out of the way first.

His leg wasn't broken. Neither were any of his toes. There wasn't even anything wrong with his hips or knees, as far as she could tell. Ah, to have access to the Diagnosis Jutsu, she dreamed. As it turned out, he'd sprained his ankle. Such a mundane injury had wound up in the emergency room.

Post 4/4 for Purification

As she applied an ice pack and cleaned the area, Bast listened to this man's tale of woe.

"I was just out playing with the boys, see?" he opened grumpily. "We just wanted to kick some ball about, y'know? Next thing I know, one of 'em's tripped me! Ain't that just a friend?"

"Mm, sure is."

"Then he denies it! I felt him though. He totally did it."

"I'm sure. You're good to go. Just stay off it."

Who knew working in emergency medicine could be so draining? That last guy had sapped the energy right out of her, yammering on about mundane crap with such a light injury. Well, she was done for the time being, so she moved to one side to observe her student.
